  1. To paraphrase the headline from the previous thread for today, when the Liberals do it, that means that it’s not illegal.
It makes one wonder if the Libs haven’t been trying to imitate the Clintons.

  2. Somehow I can’t get the image of mini-me (see Austin Powers) out of my head when I think of comparisons of corruption between Democrats and Liberals.

  3. It almost makes me want to tune into CBC news for the first time this century to see how they cover it. But I won’t. They’ll probably cover the story with a pillow until it suffocates.

  4. At least the Libs kept one of their campaign promises, total transparency.
Now, any Canadian that is willing to take a good look can see right through their bullshit.

  5. Maybe you could file these under the subject heading
“Ready right now to do those things Stephen Harper won’t do.”

  6. If you can’t force yourself to check the liberal charity case I suggest a perusal of what Bourque is got up at their site.
Something along the lines of “Deadman walking”.
If I understood the subtext it goes like this.
Butts is warming up the bus and Bill is the guy that’s going to grease the treads.
However the only thing that keeps the bus in park is the problem of finding his replacement and that it would cause a major cabinet shuffle and that it’s become obvious that they don’t have enough experienced MP’s to occupy a senior ministry. Like they don’t seem to be ready….heh.

  7. What ‘s all the fuss about? See Mary Dawson:
“He doesn’t hold them, the corporation holds them, that’s the legal entity,” Dawson told CTV News in a subsequent interview.
So there, problem solved. This would be the same Mary who found nothing amiss with a backbench MP from Montreal visiting Kincardine and billing the school board $10,000. This in a riding which voted strongly for CPC. Ethics for Liberals are slightly different.

  8. Just another Hilary Weinstein Trudeau moment in a Canadian history chock full of them.
Media-approved Canadian Liberalism at its finest!
Funny how everytime Harper tried to do anything right there was a gaggle of lawyers or a moron of professors fellating in unison for the Liberal position.
Amazing how Liberal times are silent times for the Entitled of Canada!
You would think the “most transparent politician” in history and his Finance Minister would open their own Trust Funds to public scrutiny so Canadians could see how real rich people pay taxes.
    Or not.
Sure wish the media were more curious.

  9. BUT DUFFY!!!
At least 6 times in that report I heard Akin and the female talking head:
“He’s really not doing anything illegal..but…”…or the equivalent.
    This will go no where!

  10. There is only one cardinal sin that would call for a public flogging from liberals.
    Scandal? Nope.
    Adultery? Nope.
    Embezzlement? Nope.
    Fraudulent citizenship application? Nope.
Misappropriation of public funds? Not in this reality.
What pray tell would turn liberals against a liberal?
    Anyone that causes Juthtin embarrassment.

  11. I’m surprised that Liberal Party MPs were able to avoid temptation for this long. The Liberals have a long history of this type of behaviour. Remember Paul Martin when he was Liberal finance minister: “former Prime Minister Paul Martin’s ship empire was based in Barbados, beyond taxation in Canada, and only a few of us dared to raise a fuss.(NP)” Also the same as Moreau, Martin was accused of not really severing his business interest in CSL. The Liberals, party of AdScam, gets away with the little stuff because it’s a gray area (deliberately gray, I suspect). They then get bolder, greedier and more arrogant. The inevitable ending for Liberals…another Gomery Inquiry. They cannot help themselves.

  12. This kind of thing is EVERYWHERE in our government, because you literally can’t build a garden shed without government involvement. The government boys already know where money is going before it even goes there, and they ride along with it.
The “blind trusts” these idiots like to talk about are another scam, an examination of the return from the average political “blind trust” will reveal a return on investment far in excess of any regular trust. They know who is doing what ahead of time. They’re on the grape vine.
Example from Hamilton, how did all the Big Box companies and REITs know when the Red Hill expressway was going to go through, in time to by the land? How do they always know in time to pick up the best spots? If it was fair, and held secret as it is “supposed” to be, they wouldn’t always be in the right place at the right time, would they? They’d make mistakes, they’d miss opportunities just like the rest of us. But they don’t. They always know.
Because “blind” trusts are invested in them, and word on when the Red Hill Expressway is going to FINALLY go through, after 30 years of screwing around, gets passed to them. Somehow. Golf game, party, coffee shop, brown bag fulla money, somehow.
Currently in Ontario, this process has made the economy such that there is only one path to wealth for the average person. Political contacts and real estate speculation. You see a guy under 40 with a hot car and a house, that’s how he got it. Flipping houses, with a little help from his friends who told him what to flip and when.
Right now, In Canada, there is only one real election issue. That is taxes. A country will always have a few government leeches. They can’t be eliminated, the very nature of the institution guarantees their existence. Where there is money, there will be someone with sticky fingers.
But, there is a defense. Tax cuts. Make the pile smaller, they can’t steal as much. There will be fewer of them, because less to steal.
Tax cuts. Demand tax cuts to the exclusion of all else. Or, you can starve. That’s how it is going to be.

  13. All Canadian institutions are infested with Liberals.
    Next up?
Imagine the hours of fun available tracing the connections between Liberals and Canada’s newest and most highly attractive business sector, selling dope.
The only difference between Liberal governments and the Mafia is that the Mafia takes less and is more honourable.
    Avoid taxes and don’t vote.
And a little pushback would be nice for a change.
Funny how the media never gets that upset about taxes for regular Canadians.
Luckily they look out for Canada’s rich folk.
    And the real rich?
Well, the Liberals have been winning elections on taxing the rich for 50 years, so the real rich of course don’t pay taxes, have Trust Finds like Trudebt and Morneau, make the rules and laugh at the peons.
    That would be you.

  14. It is being reported that Justin Trudeau is Canada’s first Prime Minister conceived through anal intercourse. While there is no solid scientific proof of this – the PM is an A$$hole of such magnitude that it just could not be a coincidence.

  15. “A country will always have a few government leeches.”
That’s a nice post but does Canada have a few leeches, or like femtillions of them?

  16. My point exactly..
    And who does the ‘sticking’?
Our dear media party….so don’t count on it!

  17. Rizwan said: “That’s a nice post but does Canada have a few leeches, or like femtillions of them?”
I would compare our government leech infestation to be similar to that of Italy. Maybe not quite as bad as Mexico, but certainly going that direction.
Say what you want about this Jeff Bezos guy, he started an actual car company in North America. He did it the back door way through all kinds of Greenie initiatives and etc. but Tesla is a Real Car Company that really sells actual cars. He did it through government connections and massive government intervention… but he did it.
No one could start a car company in Canada right now. It could not be done. If they had all the money in the world, and all the political support in the world, and it was the best car in the whole fricking world, they couldn’t do it.
That’s how many leeches we have. That’s what size monster we are trying to kill.

  18. The numbers don’t add up. Morneau says that there is 200- 300 billion stashed away by 29,000 small businesses. If each small business had 1 million tucked away in passive investments – that would still be only 29 billion total – so we have to increase the amount these small businesses have stashed away by a factor of 10 – or 10 million each.
That would not make them small businesses but large business who are not affected by this “reform”.
The Libs and media are trying to spin this as a very small narrow bunch of tax evaders, and that 97% of corporations are not affected. Note they are using all corporations when the tax is only aimed at small business.
I would suggest that this “narrowed” focus will actually affect a far greater number of small businesses that Morneau is suggeting – the math demonstrates that.
But the MSM is happy to parrot the talking points.
First question asked by an honest media – and repeatedly would be “how does this affect your investments Mr Morneau, particularly your dividend income for Morneau Shappel shares?
So now in their infinite wisdom, Trudeau and Morneau have decided that you cannot hold more than 1 million (at 5% rate of return) in “passive” investments.
For one thing passive investments are anything but passive. Business owners with retained earnings – if they are not investing in their own companies – are investing in other companies. That is a smart use of capital, of which the government already takes a very health cut, of any returns generated.
I suspect this has little to do with “fairness” and everything to do with cutting the legs out from under small business and deincentivising the risk reward aspect.
This will be good for big business as they will not have to put up with smaller upstarts keeping them honest.
So those who have played by the rules for 30 years and over that time managed to put away some money, are now going to have that carpet pulled out from under them, since I have seen nothing that says that this new reform will only apply to passive investments made after today.
Business owners made decisions based on the tax laws of the last 30+ years based on that tax policy. Now they will be punished.
But Morneau and the wealth McCain family will not be affected.

  19. Ward – given that Morneau Shepell is reputedly the largest perveyor of private pension plans in Canada, this could have a very positive effect on the minister’s dividends. If small businesses can no longer use the corporation as a vehicle for retirement planning via “passive” investments, then they’re going to be in the market for these private plans.
When listening to all the rhetoric about the “unfair” taxation of passive investment in a CCPC, one should realize that passive income is already taxed at a higher rate than active income within a CCPC.

  20. Regarding the Liberals setting a “threshold” of 50,000 per year on not so passive income, are we to assume that if you earn more, they get all the rest? And what rate will the 50K be taxed at?
This whole “narrowing” is nothing more than a half baked plan to try to sell this to the motoring public. Not well thought out not well explained.
Interesting that Morneau and the Libs think that this should be all that the peons are allowed to get, when it only amounts to 10 days worth of dividends from his Morneau sheppel holdings.

  21. We all personally know at least 32 million people who would vote for Satan if Satan lied about free stuff.

  22. Oh Oh!! I smell another scandal!!
Come now Mr. Morneau!! Let’s get honest eh!!
Could there be a yacht in the Caymans??

  23. Or promise, if elected, to screw over rich people. Then act shocked to find out, they’re richer than they thought.

  24. “We all personally know at least 32 million people who would vote for Satan if Satan lied about free stuff.”
Well, from a theological perspective, Satan does lie about free stuff, after all, it’s his job:
“Now, the snake was the most subtle of all the wild animals that God had made. It asked the woman, ‘Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?’ The woman answered the snake, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden. But of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden God said, ‘You must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain of death.’ Then the snake said to the woman, ‘No! You will not die!'”
    So – QED!
