  1. Interesting. Singh has just won the NDP leadership. There go all of Justin’s Sikh votes — maybe others as well.

  2. So a day after the mayor of San Juan an has been exposed for playing partisan politics and not paying attention to what needs to be done locally (She is not attending FEMA meetings, for example, as other mayors are; not working on clearing the ports in her city, etc. ) CBC features her complaints in their report on the issue. Not providing balanced and informative coverage will (I hope) eventually spell the end of the CBC. They so deserve to lose viewers and taxpayers support because of their based, misleading coverage of the news. Do not bother watching the CBC if you want to know what is going on.

ISIS claims responsibility for frenzied Marseille railway station attack as terrorist shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ stabs to death two young women, 17 and 20, before being killed by army marksmen
A man carrying a butcher’s knife and shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ killed two female passengers before being shot dead by soldiers at Marseille’s train station in southern France. The attack at Marseille’s busiest train station took place early this afternoon, as scores of armed police officers and soldiers swarmed the area. Both victims were women, with one left with a ‘sliced neck’. The other was stabbed in the stomach. The prosecutor’s office in Paris said in a statement the probe would focus on ‘killings linked to a terrorist organisation’ and the ‘attempted killing of a public official’, two terror-related charges. Early pictures from the scene showed a woman lying on the ground and armed police standing over the attacker on the floor. A white sheet was later placed over the assailant. A police source said the stabbings were ‘frenzied and took place in front of lots of witnesses. The man first shouted threats, and then launched into the two women.’

  4. Re: Anything Goes Anything Goes by Cole Porter.
Cole Albert Porter (June 9, 1891 – October 15, 1964) was born in Peru, Indiana to wealthy parents. He wrote at least 64 successful songs and 35 musical films and plays, many that have endured the test of time. According to the French version of his bio on Wikipedia, he was a bisexual (to quote my late Dad–he was AC-DC) and loved wild, extravagant parties and kept an apartment in Paris that, in today’s dollars, would cost $54,000 US dollars per month. This is my favorite song by Porter.

“On Monday afternoon, however, as those media outlets were preparing to publish stories revealing Payette’s legal efforts, her lawyers announced she would drop the appeal.”
“Payette filed the motion to seal her divorce file on July 18 — the same day iPolitics first reported that in 2011 police had charged her with second-degree assault. That charge was withdrawn shortly after it was laid, and Payette later had it expunged from official records. In a statement she acknowledged the charge, but said she was “immediately and completely cleared” of the allegation. No further detail on the matter has been released.
Shortly after the assault charge came to light, CTV and the Toronto Star reported another incident in 2011, in which Payette, while driving a car, fatally struck a pedestrian. The police investigation subsequently cleared her of fault in the collision.”

  10. Oh, darn!
I first became acquainted with his music shortly after I started grad studies. I used to listen to an FM station that broadcast out of Bellingham, Washington and his song Refugee got a lot of airplay.
I’ve listened to his songs ever since then.

  12. Faint hope on getting rid of the CBC. I finally spoke to my CPC MP a few years ago in person (when Harper had the majority government) and asked him why there had been no action on the CBC.
He said that CBC was a sacred cow in Eastern Canada, especially Ontario and the Maritimes.
The CPC will do absolutely NOTHING to harm CBC,neither will the LPC or the NDP.
RIP Tom Petty, too young to go at only 66,made some great music.
