Why Is There Always A Big Screen TV?

Financial Post;

The First Nations Financial Transparency Act is simple: It requires First Nations to publish salaries and expenses for chief and council as well as basic financial documents online — the kind of information the rest of us can get with a Google search. The overwhelming majority of First Nations follow the law, but Onion Lake is one of six bands that have never complied. The previous Conservative government withheld non-essential funding from those bands, but the new Liberal government suspended all enforcement.
Charmaine’s victory enforces the legislation and for her it’s a very personal victory. The stay-at-home mom went on a 13-day hunger strike to demand accountability from her leaders during the summer of 2014. They told her she’d never get anywhere. She now has judicial validation.
The most fascinating parts of this ruling are the arguments Onion Lake left out. Rather than contesting matters of fact, Onion Lake asked the court to stay Charmaine’s application until other court proceedings conclude. Justice B.A. Barrington-Foote rejected the stay application.

Good for her.

  1. Trudeau thought he was siding with native Canadians when he suspended enforcement of the act.
    In fact he was doing the opposite, screwing over band members who benefit from transparency and accountability. Why does Trudeau hate First Nations people?

  2. This really is the only data point you need to prove liberals are stupid morons who only pretend to care for disadvantaged people to get their votes.

  3. As a southern outsider … I am just curious ? Does Canada, and or the Cree Nation have the equivalent of the American 5th Amendment ? Because the “Chief” of the tribe of American women … here in the USA … had all HER tribesmembers invoke the 5th Amendment when the big white man’s council asked questions about HER wrongdoings. By ordering everyone to claim the 5th Amendment, SHE got to keep all HER $$$$ … and freedom.

  4. Does Canada … have the equivalent of the American 5th Amendment ?
    Yep
    “11. Any person charged with an offence has the right
    (a) to be informed without unreasonable delay of the specific offence;
    (b) to be tried within a reasonable time;
    (c) not to be compelled to be a witness in proceedings against that person in respect of the offence”

  5. Also – although it doesn’t prevent disclosure, it prevents evidence from being used in any subsequent trial of that witness, except for perjury. I guess where the witness has not been charged there is no absolute right to silence.
    “Self-crimination
    13. A witness who testifies in any proceedings has the right not to have any incriminating evidence so given used to incriminate that witness in any other proceedings, except in a prosecution for perjury or for the giving of contradictory evidence.”

  6. Well then … nobody is gonna lay a glove on the Chief(s) … they can all keep their scalps

  7. “Onion Lake Cree Nation was given 30 days to publish financial disclosures online as required by The First Nations Financial Transparency Act, according to a Saskatchewan Court of Queen’s Bench ruling released on June 15. The band’s lawyers are appealing,”
    No, the band’s lawyers are revolting. However, they intend to file an appeal.

  8. I doubt that Trudeau,whose brain resides in Gerald Butts skull, thought he was actually helping the average Indian.
    Butts is WAY too smart for that,but he knows that the Indian governments can always be bought off,and Indian Chiefs,if happy with their bribe,will deliver the vote of their Band to the Liberals. Governments like to deal with governments,not rowdy peasants whose behaviour might be unpredictable..
    The Transparency Act was literally death for some Chiefs,especially in the isolated Bands where there is no law enforcement. Piss off an Indian enough and his non-licenced rifle may make an appearance and it’s goodbye crooked Chief.
    I am sure every Indian Chief in the Country breathed a sigh of relief when this Act was cancelled, just as every American gangster would if they cancelled RICO.

  9. those who live off the taxpayer should be required to tell the taxpayer how and where their money is being spent.

  10. So, after these criminals get sentenced to their caring healing circles, do they get their jobs back?
