Within the article linked to, Peter Beinart dismisses threats to the West by saying:
“Jihadist terrorists can kill people in the West, but unlike Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union, they cannot topple even the weakest European government. Jihadists control no great armies. Their ideologies have limited appeal even among the Muslims they target with their propaganda.”
This is laughable. Muslims are within spitting distance of gaining political control of western Europe. Jihadists control a massive army of Muhammads by way of millions of radicalised Muslim men of military age who have invaded the continent. Beinart’s claim that Islamic political ideology aka: Sharia law, has limited appeal to Muslims is technically true but only in the sense that it doesn’t enjoy 100% support. The truth is, though, that Sharia law is overwhelmingly supported by Muslims from sub-Saharan and north Africa and the Middle East who comprise the bulk of the immigrant invasion.
As an aside: it is Donald Trump that stands between the West and the barbarians who would topple it. The weight of the world stands on his shoulders. It makes me grind my teeth when the likes of Dreher offer up qualified support for Trump. Their spit-ball attacks on Trump’s lack of moral perfection is just thinly disguised assertion that they are Trump’s moral superiors and, by extension, his supporters. Their constitution recognizes religious freedom, sometimes the authorities make petty problems for small non-trad sects, and the courts sometimes intervene to stop this.
