I believe the NYT knew exactly how libelous the acticle was before they printed it. They also felt it would be simple to publish a half hearted retraction and avoid liability. In the meantime they get to stir the pot, bash Palin and the Republicans and motivate the left. The article was no mistake, it`s great strategy from their point of view!!!
They are using the power of the press to motivate the left. They don`t care if they have to publish a few retractions or are proven to have published false or misleading information because they want to stir the pot. It will keep happening until we have a few more awards for damages such as in the Hulk Hogan lawsuit.
