The Mark Steyn Club

It's a weird thing to be told that you need to be out there saving western civilization - but only for premium subscribers.

You make a living where you can, and I would sign up in a minute.
Just wish it wasn't in US funds.
Maybe we Canadians could convince him to let us have my memberships at par.

gellen, what's the issue with US funds? I don't understand it, I'm from the other side of the planet. Thanks for explaining.

He's only the most interesting, most entertaining speaker/columnist/author/undocumented anchorman on the planet. Well worth the price.

$150.00 USD today is about $204.79 CDN. As a retiree and a Steyn fan, I'm thinking real hard about that.

Ah. Now that makes sense.
And I should keep up with exchange rates from time to time.

I stand with Kate and her thesis. And Kate doesn't charge me for doing so.

Steyn and freedom of speech are on trial. Small price to pay to help cover costs for a fight that benefits us all.

My Rebel subscription never seemed to work but willing to give money to Steyn as those court costs are ridiculous. Wonder how much he gets besides publicity for guest hosting arRush.

Melmelin,
The issue for Canadians paying in U.S. funds is the exchange rate between the U.S.$ and the Cdn$. Last time I looked it cost Cdn$1.36 to buy US$1.00, so paying US$150. to join the Mark Steyn Club costs Canadians about Cdn$204.
You're welcome.

I just signed up. An excellent use for my CRTV refund (I canceled when they dumped Steyn). Didn't take me too long to decide. He's marching at the head of the brigade, attracting all the fire; he deserves the support. As painful as the exchange rate may be, it's the least I can do. Remember, his legal fees are in US$.

Ditto. I give to causes I consider worthy - and other than Kate, Mark, and Ezra, there are few others out there who will bloody their knuckles in the free speech fight.

I joined.

As noted at the link all Steyn content will still be available without membership. You get a quarterly newsletter, a free book, the ability to comment and a few lesser perks for becoming a member.

I don't quite get the snark about "saving Western civilization."

It's not a snark. It's a sentence from the linked text by Steyn himself.

Can I send a cheque? If so payable to who and send to where?

If you read his article, Mark explains it's still open for non-subscribers. It costs over $200 a year to use the dead tree press. Sign me up.

I get Steyn's humor, but "only for premium subscribers" makes it seem like snark. I.e., you can't be helping save western Civ unless you pay.

Maybe it's just me.
