The Decline And Fall Of The American Empire

Conrad Black warns: "If the Trump administration does not get a tax bill through that rekindles economic expansion, the entire American project is going to face its greatest crisis since Roosevelt came in to grapple with the Great Depression."

If only he had a Republican congress.

"Franklin D. Roosevelt (who had a unanimous mandate to deal radically with the Great Depression)."

FDR's policies prolonged Depression by 7 years, UCLA economists calculate

Swamp-draining needs to be made Job #1, the sooner the better.

...President Trump has a Republican Congress in name only!

Taxes are a minor issue compared to over-regulation.
The EPA needs to be gone.

And to think I used to be a huge fan of Paul Ryan. Levin used to have him on all the time. Smart, supposedly conservative, allegedly a big fan Ayn Rand. The first hint he was just another squish was his performance against Biden in the VP debate. Then he became Speaker and that's when the full transition just another Washington lowlife was complete. Now he's just Boehner - sans tan and cigs. Sad.

Hey Hey, Ho Ho
Ryan Rino's
Gotta Go!
Tell Congress
Make It So

What a contrast with the Canadian system. Here the Prime Minister rules with a dictators iron fist. There are no checks or balances to stop anything. Our system goes so far as to have a party whip (complete with discipline) who makes sure votes go the way the boss wants.

The mid terms loom on the horizon. Many in the house will soon face the voters. They are thinking about their future. Trumps problem is the fact that he is not a beltway outsider. He has no friends in Congress or Senate to call in a favor from. Unless he solves this situation he will not pass a single piece of major legislation.

Ryan sees himself as president one day.

Ryan isn't as smart as he thinks he is, he's up for reelection next year (loss of speaker role if dems take house), Trump's got 3 years.

1st captcha word - CALLE, second is PIERRE. Does CALLE mean communist bastard in French?

The RESIST Trump movement is alive and well ... on the "Republican" side of the aisle. We don't need more GOPes in Congress ... just more Conservatives who respect the people of this country who elected President Trump.

Conrad Black?? Wasn't he the guy that bankrupted Massey Ferguson, the world's largest manufacturer of farm equipment??

I'll pass on Conrad Black!!

So if this is the case ...all trump has to do is take it to the people point out who on therepublican side needs to be tossed out and in two years make it so. The demicans and republicrats may have each other ....but trump has the people of the usa.

Some more about that thieving Black dog
Dominion pension dispute[edit]Wikipedia
In 1984, Black withdrew over $56 million from the Dominion workers' pension plan surplus without consulting plan members. The company said it considered the surplus the rightful property of the employer (Dominion Stores Ltd.). The Dominion Union complained, a public outcry ensued, and the case went to court. The Supreme Court of Ontario ruled against the company, and ordered the company to return the money to the pension fund, claiming that though the most recent language in the plan suggested the employer had ownership of the surplus, the original intention was to keep the surplus in the plan to increase members' benefits.[27] Eventually, the pension dispute was settled in equal shares between the shareholders and the plan members.[9]

How do you cut taxes and still balance your books? Global debt is such that the only way the politicos can make their unrealistic forecasts works is by increasing GDP. The fact that demographics work against such growth forecasts appears to be unimportant.

The only hope might be increased globalization and improving per capita incomes in less prosperous parts of the world. How that can be financed is another dream. Dreams do not seem to stop the process.

As any sea captain will tell you, the larger the ship, the more difficulties there are in slowing it, turning it, and in manuever with winds on the side of it. The U.S. government is a huge ship. It's going to take more than a little time to slow it and turn it to the right.

The political talking heads are saying all manner of things about the budget. Ignore them, ESPECIALLY if they write for the Washington Post.

Context matters. To me, there is real progress, all things considered. I look forward to even more in the future. The expectations bar was set at an unrealistic level to ever be reached.

And by the way, have I mentioned here how thankful I am that Hillary Clinton was not elected?? Every. Single. Day. !!!

And ... evidently ... we need MILLIONS of legal and illegal aliens to ... "increase the GDP that Americans just won't increase".

Raising the GDP while simultaneously FIRING American workers is a malignant equation that ONLY favors Corporate Elites.

In the US they have a party whip too but they actually have to try and get votes. Here I mean how hard can it be? If you don't vote party line you're out of the caucus.

Folks, Trump is going down. God bless Stephen Colbert! About time someone took a real shot at that supreme asshole in the WH. Please get rid of him and make Pense President.

Ad hominem arguments are what people who can't grasp the issues use to state their subjective bias.

Trump is a beltway outsider. Not as stated above.

A big tax cut in the US will completely derail bongo and the libranos. There wont be a dime of foreign money invested in Canada. Here in AB hardly a week goes by without another announcement that capital is leaving the province. Once Trump sets the table in the US bongo will be forced to make critical cuts that will be opposed by the librano base. He will be vilified by his backers.
The .73 cent dollar is on it's way to .70 cents.

Tough times ahead if Trump can pull it off.

Yeah, me too. I'll pass on Black was well.
In fact I passed on Black when he argued that FDR "saved capitalism".
No, really he DID say that.

Sure. Maybe.
And with every maybe, there's at least one maybe not.
You know, butterfly wings and all that stuff.

Tough times ahead WHEN Trump pulls a big tax cut in the US. Tax&Spend left-wing govts in Canada will be screwed as Canadians finally get fed up enough to dump them. The Lieberals won't have a chance of keeping a govt. by 2019.

I agree. You mention "winds on the side of it", and some of the winds would be RHINOs no doubt. I do agree with those who suggest that Ryan is part of the swamp.

What happened with Trump's budget is much like what happened here in Canada with possible legislation, Harper had CINOs, some of whom are currently running for the CPC leadership, quietly oppose some of Harper's efforts. For example, James Moore publicly opposed any effort to do something with the CBC. As well, some of the progressives disguised as conservatives must have opposed further moves to get rid of more of the firearms C-68 legislation.

Ad hominem is when a personal attack is made against a person in order to win an argument or discussion. I'm not arguing nor am I discussing. I said I'd pass on Conrad Black and that includes his predictions.

I was a victim of MF's bankruptcy as my aunt was a victim of the Dominion Store pension scam.

That can't happen soon enough. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I thought he's come back down to earth and the ''thud'' would wake him up. He's all over the place. Listen to this.

That last comment was for Hoppsing.

"How do you cut taxes and still balance your books?"

Because doing so increases revenue to the treasury.

JFK did it and it was so.

Reagan did it and it was so.

Here in Mexifornia MoonBeam's father did it, as did Pete Wilson amd it was so.

I'm a complete dolt at math and even I can understand and recoginize this simple law of Econ.

@Sask "my aunt was a victim of the Dominion Store pension scam."
Small world, my spouse was a victim of the Dominion scam as well.
