Broad Power Outage Likely Caused By Geomagnetic Storm
… a massive US power grid failure was seen across the entire United States in one simultaneous fashion. San Fransisco, New York, and Los Angeles were the three main areas that were hit the hardest. Each of the areas experienced challenges or shut downs in business commerce. Also, basic infrastructure such as communication networks, mass transportation, and supply chains experienced challenges. To many this seemed apocalyptic with anaylst citing possible cyber attacks amid mounting geopolitical turmoil across the globe. We’re shocked that mainstream media didn’t revive the failing Russian narrative for another round of fake news to confuse the masses. http://stockboardasset.com/insights-and-research/yesterdays-broad-power-outage-likely-caused-geomagnetic-storm/

“No – I was mad at my own leftwing tribe. All of January, people on the left would confront me with dazed, grief-stricken expressions, as if they had just emerged from a multi-car pileup on a foggy highway. “How could this have happened? What will we do?” I couldn’t even bear to participate in those conversations. Finally I started explaining my rage to my closest friends.
I had been screaming about the possibility of this very moment for eight years, since I published a piece in the Guardian titled “Fascist America in 10 Easy Steps” and wrote a book based on it, called The End of America (2007). Under George Bush Jr, the left had been very receptive to the book’s message about how democracies are undermined by the classic tactics of would-be authoritarians.” (grauniad)

“The crisis sends in its calling card”
“The forthcoming elections in France are being watched as a bellwether, not just of France, but of Europe itself. David Goldman (Spengler) writes: “the surge in support for ultra-leftist Jean-Luc Mélenchon to 19% in the French presidential polls — from just 11.4% on March 13 — shows how dangerous the French political situation has become.” Dangerous in what way?
There are two risks. One is that National Front leader Marine Le Pen and Mélenchon win the first round, giving France a choice between an extreme right and extreme left who agree about leaving the European Union. Both also are friendly with Moscow.
The other is that Le Pen will face either the traditional conservative Francois Fillon or the synthetic centrist Emmanuel Macron, with the likelihood that the left will support Le Pen rather than — as in the past — obediently align itself with the center in order to defeat the National Front.
A Le Pen victory would mean the end of Europe’s institutions as we know them.” https://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2017/04/23/the-crisis-sends-in-its-calling-card/
Saw Todd at ol Massey Hall during that era. It’s the song that lasts.
I thought it was just Earth Day – all the good liberals in those cities voluntarily shut down their power usage.
Interesting that you mention that!! When Mr. Harper and Co. were in Ottawa, I remember Earth day being advertised all over Canada. Yet today, I didn’t see one poster, and little on TV and the internet. Until I saw your post, I wasn’t even aware of it.
Last year, I converted most of the the house and the garage to LED bulbs. Thanks to Federated COOP and Sask Power, I bought them at a very reasonable price. What am I doing for Earth Day?
I’m refraining from the use of hair gel (AKA mineral oil) for the day!!

The United Nations just elected Saudi Arabia to a 2018-2022 term on its Commission on the Status of Women, the U.N. agency “exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.”
Yes, that’s right, the UN just put a country where women aren’t allowed to drive onto its Commission on the Status of Women. https://www.unwatch.org/no-joke-u-n-elects-saudi-arabia-womens-rights-commission/
The quintessential Toronto Maple Leafs game is not on CBC. I have only OTA (cord cutter).
But it is on Omni TV (I get 6 Channels out of Calgary).

Boy, does that song take me back! I believe I was still in high school when I first heard it and listening to it reminded me of those times.
