More Pavilions At Volkfest

If you still weren't clear about how multiculturalism works, this is how it works.

The Netherlands is home to some 400,000 people of Turkish origin while Germany has 1.4 million people eligible to vote in Turkey -- the fourth-largest electoral base after the cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.

Self inflicted wounds leave major scars.

Want to nip this in the bud?
Pass legislation that puts an end to dual citizenship.
Its been done before.
Its why anyone born in Canada now isn't a subject of the United Kingdom.
Ref Westminster Act
It would make future immigrants decide which country they want to belong to and could provide a legal argument to overturn the Sihgn(sp?) decision.
It would also make it very inconvient for the citizens of convenience that are only interested in having a Canadian escape hatch at their disposal.

Right about now, the Germans and the Dutch should roll over and play dead.

Watch in slow motion.

This is a good thing as the self-declared leader of the renewed Caliphate just declared his intentions. The next move is by the citizens of the Netherlands. Your choice, the creeping Caliphate or Dutch culture and independence from the uber leviathan EU state.

Where are all the jerks who should be declaring Geert is a Nationalist Socialist, like they do with Le Pen?

U.S. political parties hold U.S. election campaign events in Canada for U.S. citizens resident in Canada. Supposedly there is 1 million voting block here.

"Pass legislation that puts an end to dual citizenship."

Dual citizenship isn't a legal construct; it's a simple statement of the reality that a person holds citizenship in two countries. Canada can't "end" it for the simple reason that Canada only has legal authority over its own citizenship.

You can of course create laws that would seriously restrict persons obtaining Canadian citizenship but the only way to stop Canadians from holding citizenship in another country would be to deny Canadian citizenship to anyone who is a citizen of another state. This would effectively end all immigration to Canada.

Another approach might be to stipulate some sort of statement of renunciation of citizenship as part of obtaining Canadian citizenship. However, there is no guarantee that the other country will recognize such a statement.

Dual citizenship is an entirely bogus issue anyway since it confers no advantage to a Canadian (other than the ability to travel to and live in their other country of citizenship without restriction I suppose).

If I break the law in Canada and I'm a Canadian and, say, Indian citizen, as far as Canada is concerned, I'm just a Canadian. Similarly, if I break the law in India, I cannot count on help from the Canadian Embassy because while I'm there I'm an Indian national.

The Iranians are particularly hardline about their citizenship. If you were born in Iran, you're an Iranian. Period. This is why so many Canadian- and American-Iranians come to grief when they travel back to Tehran to see Mum and Dad.

When I lived in Australia, some 55 years ago, young Greek-Australian guys of a certain age were very careful about vacationing in the land of their birth - off the ship, into the army.

I thought Harper dealt with this by denying the "off shore" vote to ex-pats.

Then Sunny-Boi came along and rescinded it?

"This would effectively end all immigration to Canada."

You say that like it is a bad thing!!! You want Canadian citizenship, you renounce all other citizenship. Simple, except we have gutless wonders running our country.

Dual citizens also travel as "Canadians" when convenient to do so, but continue live in other countries.

This is what happened several years ago when Canada sent a warship to extract "Citizens" from Lebanon in 2006.

"50,000 Canadians in Lebanon; 30,000 of them are registered with the Canadian Embassy in Beirut. Canadians make up one of the largest foreign communities in the country."

Foreign Nationals with Canadian dual citizenship, also get to manipulate the tax system as it conveniences them (Offshore banking, foreign based corporations, and foreign tax withholding) while fully partaking in "free" healthcare, voting privileges, sponsoring rights, and other supposedly citizen only benefits.

"Dual citizenship is an entirely bogus issue anyway since it confers no advantage to a Canadian (other than the ability to travel to and live in their other country of citizenship without restriction I suppose)."

Dual citizenship with the USA allows a person to access the huge American job market when we are in a recession here. It's a BIG advantage for tradesmen and many professionals, one I frankly envy.

There were many times I could have worked in the USA in Winter, while my trade was shut down for the season, but was prevented from doing so,while a friend with dual citizenship merrily went down and worked all Winter in California or Texas.

...."statement of renunciation of citizenship"...

We have one...its Called the "Oath of Allegiance"

Its what every member of the Canadian Armed forces swears and signs...No reason not to apply it to prospective citizens...and while we are at it, rescind this BS of 3 yrs to get your citizenship and put it back to TEN yrs as an immigrant. something the Conservatives should do when we take over .... hopefully in 2019.

In Wednesday's polls Rutte faces a strong challenge from the party of far-right anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders.

Far-right, anti-Islam ... candidate. Just ONCE ... I want to read one of the pro-EU "mainstream" candidates described accurately as ... a Far-left, eco-extremist, pro-Islam, anti-Christian candidate.

.."Just ONCE ... I want to read one of the pro-EU "mainstream" candidates described accurately as ... a Far-left, eco-extremist, pro-Islam, anti-Christian candidate."

Absolutely!

"I thought Harper dealt with this by denying the "off shore" vote to ex-pats."

It was long before Harper. Like an idiot, he allowed himself to wear it.

"50,000 Canadians in Lebanon; 30,000 of them are registered with the Canadian Embassy in Beirut."

And a lot of them are scamming Child Tax Benefit and GST credit. Direct debit to Canadian bank. Single moms you know.

Here is the Canadian Oath of Citizenship:

"I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen."

Nothing there about renouncing anything.

Here are the oaths taken by persons enrolling in the Canadian military:

"I (full name), do swear (or for a solemn affirmation, 'solemnly affirm') that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her heirs and successors according to law. So help me God."

(The words "So help me God" shall be omitted if a solemn affirmation is taken.)

No renunciation there.

But wait! There's more! Queen's Regulations and Orders retains an oath to be taken by persons who are neither Canadian citizens nor British subjects (presumably to cater to foreign volunteers in major conflicts e.g. Americans who joined up in WWII when the US was still not at war):

"I (full name), do swear (or for a solemn affirmation, 'solemnly affirm') that I will well and truly serve Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her heirs and successors according to law, in the Canadian Forces until lawfully released, that I will resist Her Majesty's enemies and cause Her Majesty's peace to be kept and maintained and that I will, in all matters pertaining to my service, faithfully discharge my duty. So help me God."

(Again, the words "So help me God" shall be omitted if a solemn affirmation is taken.)

No renunciation there either.

"50,000 Canadians in Lebanon; 30,000 of them are registered with the Canadian Embassy in Beirut. Canadians make up one of the largest foreign communities in the country."

Indeed. But guess where the biggest foreign community of Canadians is?

Yup. There are over a million of us in the US. Are these folks "convenience Canadians" too?

"There were many times I could have worked in the USA in Winter, while my trade was shut down for the season, but was prevented from doing so,while a friend with dual citizenship merrily went down and worked all Winter in California or Texas."

Look on the bright side:

1. you won't be drafted into the US military.

2. You won't be pursued for taxation purposes by the US IRS regardless of where you live and work outside the US.

"Foreign Nationals with Canadian dual citizenship..."

There are no foreign nationals with Canadian citizenship.

It's a contradiction in terms; if you're a Canadian citizen, you're not a foreign national.

"When I lived in Australia, some 55 years ago, young Greek-Australian guys of a certain age were very careful about vacationing in the land of their birth - off the ship, into the army"

Back in the day, every once in a while a young Canadian male backpacker would come to grief while travelling in Europe because he had been born in Germany (or France) to Canadian parents stationed there with the Canadian Forces.

If he or his family had not done the particular paperwork (and sometimes even then until it was proven), he could be held by German or French authorities for draft-dodging.

Yea ok GP, Foreigners who were Foreign Nationals until they acquired a dual citizenship in Canada. Not born in Canada and live abroad milking our system and reaping it's benefits.

It's the Political Correctness that started this joke to begin with.

My wife and I had the opportunity to travel through a good part of Turkey just a few years ago. It was apparent then that Erdogan was flexing his Islamist muscle and that the country was slipping back to a pre-Attaturk sharia state.

We were seeing lots of burka clad women - full black tent and black gloves regalia - which was banned until recently. We were also warned by our guide regarding taking photographs in cities such as Konya, due to the resurgence of 'conservative' (read: militant) Islam.

Our guide, a 30 something university educated man, would point to statues of Attaturk in city parks while predicting they would be gone in 10 years. He believed Erdogan would erase anything that might remind Turks of the secular, more modern Turkey they have enjoyed since 1924. 'Disturbances' were occurring regularly in Istanbul and Ankara while we were there.

Keep the popcorn handy as there will be a fight to the finish over who represents the new caliphate: Turkey (Sunni) or Iran (Shia). Saudi Arabia will maintain themselves as the font of Islam, but they won't have the guts or firepower to truly lead.

It's situations as described in this article that will hopefully, instill some degree of nationalism (otherwise known as self-defence or self-preservation) in western nations.

Back in the day (1950 - 1957), there was a settlement at the Tulsequah Chief mine, southwest of Atlin, B. C., run by the CM&S Company (now Cominco). As the hospital facilities there were rather rudimentary, pregnant women were sent to Juneau, Alaska, to give birth. The mine was closed; many of the families returned to the Kootenay area where much of Cominco's activities still went on. All was well until the late '60's, when young men born at Juneau started receiving draft notices. What was looked upon by all concerned back in the '50's as a logical alternative to establishing a rather small maternity hospital at a mining camp had thrown up a wild card: all those children born in Juneau were de facto American citizens, and the USA was calling some of them up to do military service. Given that there was a lot of historical border crossing between the Kootenays and the American states (eastern Washington and Idaho), these draft notices put a serious crimp in a lot of young Canadians' plans to head south to Spokane for shopping, or even just think of a day trip across the border.
