I point to the program, and Travis and I are just shaking our heads, thinking, ‘Oh my God, this guy’s a legend.’ He was as good as it gets in harness racing, and he could call a Thoroughbred race, too. He was just one of those guys who was very talented, and not an egotistical bone in his body.”

Tonight’s tips thread pays tribute to the “voice of the Meadowlands”, the legendary harness race caller Sam McKee, who passed away March 7th after suffering a stroke. Thread open.

  1. A female animal activist stops by a Burlington, Ont. slaughterhouse to give a few thirsty pigs a drink of water. Not exactly a serious crime. She is charged with mischief.

  3. Possibly everyone who signed up for CRTV and were dismayed that Mark Steyn was fired will have discovered that Mark is posting on You Tube.
    This is the latest he posted and I have just finished watching it. This is an evening where he talks to an audience of Hillsdale College donors and supporters about where America and the world are headed, and then takes questions from the floor.

  13. Actually, I have a book documenting experiences at one Northern school. It is obvious from both the text and the photographs that the children there were happy — even wonderfully excited when school would begin each year. Many who attended the schools became leaders in their communitues. Why does everything have to be all one thing or all another? Some resididential schools were good. Others nit. Frankly, I think we are badly failing native children today.

  14. That was well stated. It is indeed this Liberal status quo we have been mired in for decades that is slowly killing off what remains of our natives’ self-respect and independence.
    The sad reality is, you would have found that most large institutions of that era, mental, prison, etc had similar histories of instances of brutality. Difficult to face sometimes how damned little mankind has matured these past centuries.

    this was my reply to the CBC article:
    Anyone who compares residential schools with oppression under the Nazis is willfully ignorant of historical facts. There was no widespread aboriginal slave labour, death camps, or industrial crematoriums. Comparing residential schools with the Nazi regime disrespects the millions of Jews, Gypsies and other minorities who were brutally killed. Any day in any residential school was better than any day in Auschwitz or Dachau.
    Also remember that nearly every successful aboriginal entrepreneur, businessperson and leader went through the residential school system. The government of the day did the best they could without malice within the limits of their abilities. MPs and Senators were not ordering the Church to abuse aboriginal children; it’s unlikely that any politicians knew what the Church was doing. As a citizen of Canada I’m profoundly sorry for anyone who suffered abuse, however it’s time to stop blaming the government and taxpayers of Canada for the hands-on abuse by members of the Christian Church. If you have a problem with the abuse at residential schools then take it up with the Church, not the government.
