Soon will come the day when I can relax in my dentist's waiting area without enduring a dangerous rise in blood pressure.
Major layoffs just took place at @MacleansMag. At least seven senior people laid off. This is a bloodbath #cdnmedia
— Zane Schwartz (@ZaneSchwartz) February 1, 2017

This empty post reminds me of a past POTUS but with more substance
YEAH
Yes, you do have a bloodbath, when you shot yourself in the foot.
Self-inflicted wounds. #FakeNews
Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of a$$holes.
Haven't we heard that debating ideas is the highest form of intelligence?
Unfortunately, most journalists are left-of-center, pretending how their ideas are THE mostest valid and mostest talked about because they are they only ones speaking anything of value or of truth. McLeans' writers are but a number in a long list of opinion-floggers who think that the pen is mightier than the sword, without knowing the value of a sword when the enemy is knocking at the gates and have every intention of separating their head from their shoulders.
Good-old hard, dirt-under-the-nails, manual work until their blisters are bleeding, should be an annual requirement in every newsroom and writing establishment in order to collect what they believe to be their entitled and overinflated paychecks.
Happened to pick up an edition in the doctor's office yesterday and glanced through it, a few months old but almost in pristine condition. Judging by the that I have to assume that their 'news' is not selling well even here on the west coast.
I like to take a magazine to the dentist's office that they are not likely to have, e.g. motorcycles, guns, hunting, and leave it there for like-minded people.
Jolly good! Couldn't happen to a "nicer" set of people. I'm sure they'll get jobs at the CBC or the federal Liberals.
Excellent news. It gladdens my heart to see immoral purveyors of socialist propaganda on the unemployment line. Let 'em flip burgers. It'll do a lot less damage to civil society.
Cancelled my membership years ago as the letters to the editor always criticized Harper.
There will always be Readers Digest.
I am Joe's stomach.
H3ll yeah!
You know, it really hasn't occured to these people that the Canadian "news" is done like dinner. No one investigates anything, anymore.
Hey, Macleans! You want to know why you are going out of business right now? There was a multiple murder on Sunday, and we don't know what the murder weapon was yet. In fact, we don't even know why they won't tell us. This is Wednesday.
I won't pay for a magazine that won't even ask a question like "why won't you tell us about the murder weapon? Is there some legit reason why Canadians can't be allowed to know about that?"
A day or two ago the Torstar was suck-holing for government assistance. Maybe a joint pilgrimage to Ottawa is in order with MacLeans to plead for some largesse. It'll probably work. Canadian "institutions" and all that.....
Here's another sign that business is dying.
I grew up in a small town in northern B. C. When my parents and I moved there more than 50 years ago, the local newsrag was a weekly publication. Some 20 years later, it had become a daily. In the last 2 or 3 years, it went back to being weekly and, by then, many people no longer read it.
I found out about the latter when I returned to start settling my father's estate. I arranged for a notice to be put in the paper but many people I spoke to in the past few weeks didn't even know about his passing as they stopped reading that fishwrap.
The latest edition was delivered while I was writing this. It looked nice and thick when I took it out of the mailbox, but most of it turned out to be flyers and similar materials. As for what constituted news, most of it seemed to be on the level of local gossip, much like it was during my early days in town.
and to the environment, physical and moral.
I just finished speaking with the newspaper's main office as I wanted to cancel my father's subscription. I found out that it's being delivered free in town.
I guess that means that it could no longer sustain itself as a paying publication, which explains all the supplements that came with it.
All they ever had to do was real news. Research, facts, due diligence. It is kind of amazing that as an industry, they are choosing to go Jonestown to protect the sacred narrative, rather than what they used to do a 100 years ago. I wonder if Maddow or Kohn will be the one to drink the last drop of Kool-aid?
More people work at The Rebe now. I'm not joking. that is literally true...
Rebel that is!
In a shrinking market, insulting half of your potential customers is apparently not a winning strategy. Who woulda thunk it?
You can't even wipe your ass with it properly.
Just curious ... is that Macleans Mag. in one of the governments ... "FREE" ... Dental offices ? I guess the propaganda reading material is a small PRICE to pay for FREE government dental care. Damn! Canada is so much more Euro-evolved than US dumbass Americans!
Nope. No free dental-care in Canada unless you happen to be a status Indian.
Does this mean that Juthtin won't be on the cover of MacLeans this Month? Darn... I was really looking forward to Juthtins Blue Steel pose... They can all get "jobs" at the CBC now, that way they can continue MacLeans long tradition of cradling Juthtins lady parts with some real pros.
He goes on:
"By my count there are 22 full-time staff left at Maclean's. When I joined in April 2015 there were nearly 40. This is insane."
Hey gumshoe, why don't you investigate and write a story about it?
Oh, he's otherwise occupied:
"I'm collecting #MuslimBan statements from Canadian conservatives for a @torontolife article. If you want to submit please email/DM."
These people can't honestly be this clueless. Can they?
Jonathon Gatehouse is on the list of the fallen provided by your tweetster, Zane Schwartz. Well, well, well. Wasn't he the one that did the hatchet job on Donald Trump back on October 20, complete with Nazi salute portrayal? Why yes it was indeed Mr. Gatehouse. Here is his magnum opus in all its glory if you can stomach it:
http://www.macleans.ca/politics/washington/what-will-america-do-after-trump/
Not that there would be any connection between that and his current situation but schadenfreude anyway!
Something that the MSM is still not aware of is that if you peddle opinions and try to market them as news the average Joe on the street isn't going to buy it for long. He can get all the opinions he wants for free at work and on the internet, so why pay for them when they come in a glossy magazine. However you dress them up opinions are relatively worthless, since everybody has one, putting them in a glossy magazine is like putting lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.
lmao.....I love it.!!
Great Plan...i will commece similar actions...
They're going out of business because they lie and we hate their guts.
I cancelled Readers Digest subscription years ago as it was only reprinting left-wing garbage.
Who is going to tell Zane that the only reason is still around is because he is getting paid less than the other losers?
I'm thinking Zane, it's a bad time to ask for a raise. Best be looking for another job Zane, there might be some making less than you are ... in any event Zane ... tic ... toc ... tic ... toc
More people now work at therebel.media than at MacLean's ?
That tells you everything you need to know about the mendacious, mainstream media.
There aren't enough cultural Marxist religious zealots to keep the MMSM viable.
Funny coincidence, when the U.S.S.R. fell apart, it turned out there were a lot fewer hard-line Marxists than we were led to believe, too.
I did not think there were seven people working there.
Paul Wells? Please let one of them be Paul Wells...
All of the above! Good riddance. The sooner it totally collapses the better.
I tolerated Maclean's increasingly leftward tilt with an annual subscription until they dumped Mark Steyn and then we parted company.
People don't like going to the dentist because of the pain. Not in the chair but the bookstand.
I can't remember the last time I saw a McLean's anywhere. Not at the grocery store, dentist, doctor or walk in clinic office. Definitely not at the spa. Maybe people need to rethink which dentist they visit.
Oops, MacLeans. Hope I didn't offend anyone there.
