Permanent Drought

The moron Governor Brown better get to work building more dams from the money allocated years ago rather than more bird wackers.

Wait until this stuff melts.

the best capper to this winter would be if it didn't all melt.

Only a hundred miles (downhill) to Oroville. Might wanna have another look at the dam thing.

Don't get me started ...

California's "drought" was OVER ... LAST ... year. Our major reservoirs were FULL ... well above average after LAST seasons snowmelt. Click on the DWR reservoir graph and change the date to June 10, 2016.

http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cdecapp/resapp/getResGraphsMain.action

CA's major reservoirs were FULL last season. The water-producing region of the Sierra were comfortably above "NORMAL" ... LAST season.

So WHY does it take a GARGANTUAN precipitation year to finally FORCE the global warmist media to ADMIT that the CA drought is OVER ... wayyyy OVER !!!! Anyone who has lived in CA for more than 20 years KNOWS our weather patterns. The "storm door" was OPENED ... LAST ... season. It brought the Sierra snowpack up to NORMAL (and above) levels which all melted and FILLED our reservoirs. But the State DUMPED our reservoirs ... because a Federal Judge determined a baitfish was more important than PEOPLE.

Now the global warmists have coined a new term "atmospheric river", as if "polar vortex" wasn't enough. The term is loose and completely Undefined in specific scientific data. Now the State is trying to FRIGHTEN the people with the "EXTREME" weather ... OMG! straight from DROUGHT to FLOOD !! All because of fossil fuel use. We have destroyed the planet ... Puhleeze !

Check out the DWR statement about EXTREME climate/weather whatever they define it as today ...

http://water.ca.gov/waterconditions/index.cfm

AND ... Jerry has not yet declared an END to his Marshall Law on water usage. Jerry is determined to record the "official" drought as extending to 6+ years ... when it was a FOUR YEAR DROUGHT. Jerry is defining the word "drought" to mean whatever the HELL he wants to. And despite the BRIGHT RED "Drought Monitor" maps ... The "water producing" part of the State is well past drought conditions. And don't get me started on the arbitrary constructs of maps created by the "Drought Monitor", which is just another global warmist bureaucracy created to LIE to the American people.

In the following Mercury News article, this seasons rain has been referred-to as "Remarkable" and "Amazing". That is FAKE news. Totally FAKE. I lived through the mid-1970's drought in CA ... and it ended the EXACT same way as this year. I believe it was 1977 that the HEAVENS opened and unleashed massive rains and snows on CA

http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/02/23/new-report-drought-finally-over-in-nearly-every-part-of-california/

Today, in CA ... your neighbor can STILL turn you into the state bureaucrats for washing your car in your own driveway ... resulting in major FINES. What a pity, since my cars are getting quite dirty from all the mud splashing up on the rocker panels.

Jerry Brown needs to STOP taking his science lessons from the POPE. Jesuits are supposed to be more intellectual than that.

pray for glowballwarming to melt that shit!!!

Global Warming, formerly measured in inches, now being measured in feet.

Libtards Rule, their theme song being; Oh Susanna".

Heard the tail end of a news report saying one snow measurement site in the Sierras has received 500 inches of snow so far.

Breaking: Due to excessive levels of precipitation, Governor Brown has mandated car washing and lawn watering three times per day.

Yeah. The MSM would report: Global Warming has caused the Arctic to move to California.
Arctic to be Ice Free by 2018!

Can't they build a conduit so the runoff all goes via Sacramento?

This is very cool

Drone Shows 'Glory Hole' Spillway at Lake Berryessa Overflowing

The Morning Glory Spillway, called the “Glory Hole” by locals, spilled over for the first time in 10 years this week. The overflow is a result of a month of recent rains filling the river in formerly drought-stricken California. Drone operator Evan Kilkus told Storyful that the latest rains in California are topping the lake off at over 3.5 feet above the World Famous Glory Hole Spillway at Lake Berryessa. His latest drone video shows Lake Berryessa, Putah Creek, and the Monticello Dam.

What if the resultant flooding washes the illegal aliens in California back across the Rio Grande.

A modern equivalent of the washing away of the Pharaoh's cavalry by the Red Sea.

Of course, should that happen, the MMSM will blame Pres. Donald J. Trump. :)

As for the fabled San Joaquin valley among the most productive agricultural land in the world, long suffering a lack of water for farming due to State gov't. policy...

The Flood Warning continues for
the San Joaquin River near Vernalis.
* At 2:45 PM Saturday the stage was 30.4 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast to fluctuate near 30.0 ft thru Monday afternoon.
* Flood stage 29.0 ft
* monitor stage 24.5 ft
* impact... near 26.0 feet, severe seepage occurs outside the levees.
The area covered by seepage will increase as the river stage rises.
* Impact... near 21.0 feet, seepage begins into crop area outside of
levees.

When I lived in Calgary, at the end of our street a lady named Linda used to spend as much time as she could with friends in L.A. Linda loved L.A.

Eventually she met a Mexican in L.A. who was a student named Angel(male) at an L.A. college. He was an attractive, virile, and much younger guy whom Linda brought to Calgary and married.

First winter, it was hilarious to watch, Angel try to shovel the snow in front of Linda's house. Snow was alien to Angel. He didn't so much shovel it as he pushed it around like a person might try to herd cats.

Long story short, Angel left to visit his family in Mexico and never returned.
I think it was the snow.

Larry, perhaps you should check a map, it is a LONG way from kalipornia to the Rio Grande. Not saying that it couldn't happen (or flushing them isn't a good idea)but that could cause some other 'interesting' problems for lots of folks!

The only reason I give a damn for anything in California is because of Victor Hanson. He grows grapes there, as many will know - or rather, rents acreage to others. His descriptions of the trials of being overrun by illegal aliens, and the thievings of the incompetent state government, are heart rending, and his stubbornness in keeping to his ancestral land, are impressive and heartening. His work ethos is inspiring to all who have met him.

"His work ethos is inspiring to all who have met him."

Well, at least you. I don't think it's proper for you to speak for everybody who has ever met him.

Might be time to think about building that ark.

Oh very well.My most profound apologies. Oh dear. I o hope that your feelings aren't hurt.

Victor Hanson works nearly all the time, from what I have seen of him. That may not impress some, but it sure as Hell impresses me.

On Thursday, it announced that its ski area would remain open through July 4. Since 1962, it will mark just the fourth instance of Independence Day skiing (the other years were 1998, 1999, and 2011), according to a resort spokesperson.
============================================

But...but...but that can't be true! Those were all within the last 20 years, and we know it was the warmest 20 years ever recorded.

Yep, spring run off will run straight through JULY...

The geniuses running the sluice gates at the Oroville Dam will be on their knees praying it doesn't all melt at once!! If these comedians think they are out of the woods; talk to me in later in the summer.

The über morons who mis-allocated all the damn maintenance funding will be cranking up their prayer life hoping it doesn't kill their political life.

Utter useless wankers, oh it'll never rain in California until they experience their 100 year flood. The stupid is just staggering.

Cheers

I imagine saner Californians are having second thoughts about the decision many years ago to halt improvements in water management projects in the high Sierras. You just have to wonder how much economic activity was lost because of the halt. The Big Creek project on the San Joaquin River generates a giga watt of power through a cascade of nine power houses on successive dams as it flows down from the Sierras. And if Hydro sites weren't available, the water could certainly have been used for irrigation in the Central Valley, or to prepare for future population growth.

Victor Davis Hanson's books on farming in the central valley are absorbing stories about the challenges of being an orchardist, and also about the ridiculous distribution system that made many farmers unviable despite their productivity in growing grapes.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/12/us/nasa-antarctica-ice-melt/index.html

It's all unimportant, the Antarctic ice shelf has just calved a chunk of ice the size of Jupiter,or Mars or Rhode Island or 50 million football fields, and we're ALL gonna drown!!!

I prefer my measurements to come in "postage stamps" but the media never seems to use that example, perhaps because we can better relate to football fields, tennis courts,or the State of Rhode Island. Maybe the number of zeros in a postage stamp measure would overwhelm us simple peasants, so it's better to use the others.

Btw, why don't Canadian global warming sources quote their scary stories in "hockey rinks", the NHL size, not the European size, which we Canuckleheads can't relate to? I mean,if the Larsen shelf, which is the size of,say, four billion NHL hockey rinks, just the ice surface, not the entire building, is melting and going to raise sea levels by three feet by 2100, NOW I know I should panic!

I wonder though, in my capacity as a psuedo-scientist, if simply expanding the NHl to four billion teams thus using up those ice rinks, isn't a simple solution.

I'm not a religious man,but at this point I have to plead,"oh,Lord, give me strength".

how prescient....

Don ... since you brought up "calving" ice shelfs ... I always wonder what rock these FEAR mongers just crawled out from when a "calving" ice shelf is described as some unique global warming catastrophe. How little physics (and simple observational skills) do these cretins possess ? Surely, once an ice shelf (the size of 10 to the power of 250 postage stamps) grows to that size ... the mass becomes inured with sufficient inertia so that each wave and each tidal shift, each stiff wind, is amplified to destructive levels. Why is it always implied that calving=melting ? Big, heavy, things being tossed about ... are very difficult to stabilize. Especially if that stability is a peninsula of aged, fractured ice. I expect that most 7th graders would easily comprehend the forces at play ... without a spoon fed horsepucky story about global warming and melting ice cubes

Yes. You hurt my feelings. You beast!/
dumbass

Refresh my memory. Who elected you to speak for everyone who every met Victor Hanson?

There is a Canadian company that makes vodka from icebergs. Can't they give us a measurement of how many bottles of vodka could be made from the calving ice floe? That would be something I think most of us could relate to. And if they made vodka from the ice then it would contribute to our GDP and rather than contributing to sea level rise.

Sea level rise? Hahahahahahahahahaha

That ice SHELF is already floating. The part that calves off is floating. When it melts it will have a volume equal to the volume it presently displaces. There will be no change in sea level.

Admittedly, adding extra ice the ocean should raise sea level by an infinitesmal (sp??) amount, but the glacier has been doing that for a couple of million years, so the cycle of evaporation -> snow -> glacier -> iceberg -> water is basically stable.

But WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE! from the globull warbling.
