It’s probably nothing.

Canada can have Trump address our supply management or Maxime Bernier, which would you prefer?
Their second letter to PEOTUS Trump.

In a letter to President-elect Donald Trump, US dairy groups said that Canada’s “protectionist” trade policies are intentionally designed to block imports from the US and are in direct violation of commitment made under the North American Free Trade Act (NAFTA) and the World Trade Organization.

Have fun on the Tim Hortons circuit, Mr. Trudeau.

31 Replies to “It’s probably nothing.”

  1. Throw in the mix protectionist telecom and airline policies, so Canadian consumer may rejoice.

  2. I think Canada is in for a load of crap from Trump. If we want to trade with the US, I suspect our multi-millionaire dairy and poultry farmers will have to stop charging widows and orphans way more than market value. I also suspect softwood lumber producers will end up paying more stumpage.

  3. This will directly impact the dairy industry in Quebec…BIG TIME. PM P’tit Patate is not going to have a easy time in the next 4 years (possibly 8+ years)

  4. Yuge Ironing- the leader of the deplorables could end up being the champion of Canadians searching for lower cost domestic air travel, dairy products, and cell & internet service.

  5. Just as the Canadian government always bails out Bombardier, they might have to bail out Quebec dairy farmers, can’t let all those Liberals go without.
The death of our protectionist policies re dairy and poultry might hurt a few thousand millionaire farmers, but it will benefit millions of Canadian consumers.
And if they DID kill of Autopact, little Canader would lose 140,000 damned good paying jobs.
The agreement, signed in 1965, has an opt-out clause with 12 months notice,by either Canada or the U.S. government.
If we get F***ed over on softwood lumber, which is also looming on the horizon,we would probably lose as many jobs, but as those would be mostly in Western Canada, are not important as Westerners can always hunt and trap and fish to survive.
Ban them tankers, close down the pipelines and oil sands, let’s all live a cleaner, greener, and very brief life.

  6. “Westerners can always hunt and trap and fish to survive.”
I grew up trapping but I’d have to take a trapping course. My daughter tried to buy horse dewormer recently but apparently you need a license to be a farmer in Alberta. Red Rachel and the Bolshevik Choir want to control everything and they hire highrise towers full of women’s studies majors to manage it all.

  7. Keep holding your breath xiat, forever is a long time!
Neither country would want their communications sectors opened up. Bank on it. And, by the way, ignore everything OpenMedia says about Telecom, they are children and Marxists, Utopians, that don’t have a clue how Telecom works or operates.
Their juvenile complaints resulted in the elimination of 3 year contracts, which caused HIGHER cellular bills. Smart like Truck!
    Trust someone who knows……

  8. He’ll probably take the same route Martin/Chretien did with Bush which was to openly oppose him. That spells doom for us unfortunately BUT we might finally get rid of the turdburgler.

  9. That’s the problem with protectionism. Eventually someone retaliates. Ironically, in this case it’s an incoming protectionist US administration.

  10. “I also suspect softwood lumber producers will end up paying more stumpage.”
During my forest industry career, BC changed its stumpage system three times and regardless of how defensible or high the stumpage rates, the US coalition and lobbyists were never satisfied. This trade dispute originated about 170 years ago when Americans continued to privatize their forests while Canada only significantly privatized land for railroad land grants and agriculture. It will not end until Canada either ceases to export lumber to its largest and most natural market or privatizes most of its producing forests. Given the socialist bent of most Canadian’s, we all know how that will end. BC’s coastal producers have been increasing lumber and log exports to Asia as fast as the market allows. Many Interior Mills are attempting to do so as well. This irritates US producers as well because the large timberland owners are also doing the same, particularly in logs. US builders and trade groups are actually on our side as the results of any agreement satisfying the coalition translates higher lumber costs to builders and consumers.

  11. I’m no fan of supply management. If Trump brings this corruption to an end well good for him. The poor in this country have suffered enough.
Bongo could be in for one hell of a ride if Trump gets Canada in the cross hairs.

  12. Potato Nose will get said nose in a snit, because afterall he is Pierre’s son.. “Don’t you know that Donald?”… We are hooped until this nit-wit disappears.

  13. the answer to your question lance is a no- brainer – i would prefer max bernier over anyone on the visible spectrum. not only has he laid out plans to scrap the dairy cartel, but he also wants to ditch the maple syrup supply management structure (which is about as close as you can get to soviet planning here in canada) AND – he says the cbc needs to decide how it will survive without public funding and/or advertising revenue. if he’s the new leader of the conservatives, he will shred trudeau seven ways to sunday!

  14. “Bongo could be in for one hell of a ride if Trump gets Canada in the cross hairs” .abtrapper
You can’t hide.. The sick Soros & his Canadian Environmental Groups are the enemy..CBC is the Global Broadcaster for the UN/EU, corrupt to the core…No more hiding in the weeds dude, you created your own demise…Kiss you ass Bye Bye! I don’t know what you hope to save!

  15. Canada can cooperate with the Trump Administration, or be made irrelevant.
Trump will not tolerate fools like Trudeau, so PMButts better have his meat puppet well briefed before he lets Le Dauphin Petite Pomme de Terre sit down with Trump.

  16. The necessary briefing wouldn’t fit in the Patate Pourrite’s head. Expect tears from Justin, and Fake Outrage from our sycophantic media.

  17. Cuban and Soros reportedly lost a billion each shorting the market betting on a Trump loss.
    Damn…life is good.

  18. Get a Trump bobblehead and have Carolyn Parrish do her famous two step stomp, then send in cryin’Chyrstia to clean up the mess

  19. I grew up close to the 49th parallel in SW Sask. In the 1970’s we couldn’t sell wheat, thanks to Pierre Elliot Trudeau and the Canadian Wheat Board. We could have sold tons of wheat to Montana feed lot operators, but the Liberals stopped us. Just leave it to a Trudeau to screw things up. I think that supply and demand rules the ag market, and I don’t think Trump will be that bad. I bought fertilizer, chemical and other farm supplies from US outlets. They’re a good lot to deal with. If anything can go wrong, Trudeau is the one I would worry about.

  20. LONG Flipping overdue in my opinion…one reason I cut the cord for TV. Up yours Telus…and I have always marveled at the cost of cheese / milk in a US Costco…
Canadian Governments have for years done nothing about these Monopoly issues….looks like time is running out for Dairy Farmers, likely Sugar Maple producers & the rest of the Cartels….couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of millionaire sleaze bags.
As for Air Travel…why we don’t open our skies is beyond me. I could care less who transports me, as long as it is efficient, safe and cost effective. AC and WestJet may be safe but often not efficient and never cost effective. Bring in Emirates Air and lets see some real competition..??

  21. You have been in the crosshairs for a while, about many things — those NATO comments of Trump’s weren’t just for European consumption even though they were aimed in Merkel’s direction.
With Trudeau (especially) and the rest of your leadership, Trump sees you as the EU’s western arm…and doesn’t like it one bit.
And he isn’t alone in this, especially with the people he is bringing in.
Please realize when when I say “you” I mean Canada in general, not individual Canadians specifically. Truly, I hope for your sakes’ that you can get rid of your Obama and Clinton Gang as readily as possible.
I’m sorry, for I believe it is your country’s singular misfortune to have a Trudeau leading it during this particular American president’s administration — Trump is old enough to remember Pierre well enough and to have detested him; I think he merely despises the son — but that means he really has no respect for him at all.

  22. I briefly dated a woman who worked for the BC Egg Marketing Board. From her I confirmed what I had long suspected, that the rules protect a small fiefdom of very wealthy farmers. Period.
When the two currencies were closer to par, tens of thousands of Metro Vancouverites would flood down to Washington State every day to buy milk & eggs. So any notion that “Canadians like these protective policies” is complete nonsense!

  23. Things you’ll never see on the CBC.
Time for an Edgar Bergen/Charlie McCarthy type comedy show ….with liddle Juthtin turned over Trump’s knee.

  24. “Bongo could be in for one hell of a ride if Trump gets Canada in the cross hairs.”
I hate to say it, but Trump is gonna swat your “leader” away like the fruit fly he is, pun intended.
He will ignored and shuffled off to some low-level diplomat to talk with after some 20-second photo-op.  And the good people of Canada will suffer for it.
Trump has far, far better things to do than to give this gnat even the time of day.
Oh, and to all you Trump detractors from the past, BITE ME.

  25. At last! Wake up Canada–Trump is going to kick your mediocre ass. It’s past time this pathetic socialist leaning country had some real competition. High prices; poor service; top heavy with the dead hand of government. Air Canada/WestJet. Gimme a break. One is as bad as the other. TELUS/Rogers/Bell…Rolling in dough–While this country wows itself with 4Mbps “high speed” Internet. High speed? HAHAHA. What a joke. South Korea is light years ahead, and has been using fiber optic Internet service for the past several years. Very reasonably priced. This bland country? High gas prices–weak currency–currency manipulation? I don’t doubt it for a moment. This country Canaduh is full of excuses.
Wake up! The Donald is coming to kick your butt.
