Re: Dementia and traffic
Imagine the number of variables that would have to be accounted for in such a study. How long did they live there, what was the traffic volume prior to the onset of dementia, what are the ages of the participants, what other factors do the dementia patients have in common, what is the sample size, what is the statistical significance level, and the list goes on and on.
And then there are the non-scientific factors to consider, i.e. is there an agenda. Which means that you have to delve into the personal lives of the researchers to see if they are advocates of, say, banning cars from city centers, etc. Such is the level of scrutiny that we must engage in to evaluate the credibility of modern day “scientific studies”.
Who has the time or patience to really read these studies and analyze them and their authors? Very few indeed.
As you might surmise, I give this study no credibility.

I was going to say it was a study that the results discovered something the researchers where not expecting.
I premise this study was meant to demonstrate that those in rural area’s had poorer health than those living in and around those oh so progressive urban centres. When the results ran counter to their desired outcome they had to come up with an alternative theory that could place the blame on corporations or AGW. So simply put, can’t have anything to do with high population density and higher cost of living in those urban centers like Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

My point re O’Leary is that the military colleges have benchmarks for cadets (future officers) in terms of physical and intellectual capabilities, maturity, ethics and principled behaviors among others (PM qualities one would hope). O’Leary apparently did not meet one or more of those standards.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and her Liberals brought in a Cap and Trade program on January 1st and are exempting some of the biggest emitters like Petro-Canada Lubricants, Imperial Oil, the Val Canada nickel refinery and both Brampton and Hanson Brick.
These companies won’t have to pay the added fees for carbon emissions for the next four years.
