Oh, Shiny Prime Minister!

Trudeau likes the idea of Canada. It's just Canadians that he largely hates.

"...at a time when we need to continue to move decisively away from fossil fuels"... says who? I disagree, the world needs fossil fuels for decades to come, lots of fossil fuels., or there will be famine on a scale never before seen in history.

Discontinuing the use of fossil fuels isn't a good idea when there's nothing suitable to replace them. However, that logic is lost on politicians, particularly those among the Khmer Vert.

How can an executive action like Obama's be irreversible by a successor? Sounds like something for the new supreme court justice to rule on while in the meantime congress works on repealing. What an utter scumbag.

"How can an executive action like Obama's be irreversible by a successor?"

Because the Yanks now have a commie dictatorship??? Make no mistake...this was the muzzie-in-chief's plan from day one.

And just where is that birth certificate??

PET created the national energy policy to rid the east for reliance on Conservative Alberta oil and then they financed drilling useless holes looking for oil in the NWT . Pardon me I have to puke now.

It sounds as though his executive action is invoking a clause of a law and that law doesn't provide for revoking that decision, so a succeeding President's executive action would be like President Obama's actions had no foundation in law, such as directing that immigration laws were not to be enforced.

If that's how it is, the remedy would be new legislation repealing that 1953 law or parts of it. I expect President Trump could figure that out, it would just take longer than picking up the pen and phone.

..PET created the national energy policy to rid the east for reliance on Conservative Alberta oil and then they financed drilling useless holes looking for oil in the NWT . Pardon me I have to puke now...

Say what..?? Seems to me PET Created the National Energy Program to force Alberta Oil Companys to sell their product well below world prices. They basically gave PET the middle finger, capped the wells and moved their rigs to the US - Alberta went into a long hard recession because of it. And that is WHY his NAME is HATED HERE.

What reliance are you talking about..? The country has never been soley reliant on our OIl...Nor did we ever prevent that from happening either. So I have no clue as to what you are on about with that.?? As for the financing of Arctic drilling..?? that came from Dome petroleum and Others...not the Feds.

Get your facts straight

That either Trudeau gave a shit about the West is patently OBVIOUS...both Classic Soft Commie (_i_)HOLES...

The oil industry was so misunderstood by the libranos that they created Petro Canada to give them an insiders window. So hated was PC that there are plenty of Albertan's who to this day have never bought a thing from them including me.
I remember the 80's and NEP. We're not there yet but it could happen especially with their ndp collaborators offering assistance.

How to make friends with a new administration 1 month away? Conspire with the outgoing lame duck Obama.
You have to wonder if they think at all through actions and consequences.
Trump will have no reason to be friendly after a great big F U like this.

Obongo gives all lame ducks hope, as Canaduhs Justy gives all morons and dodo bird lovers hope.

Well...now...he's one tough L'il Potatoe.

He said he will look out for Canadians and stand up to Trump...he'll even draw a line in the sand...(where did we hear that before...??)

So hated was PC that there are plenty of Albertan's who to this day have never bought a thing from them including me.

And don't forget who was the first head of PetroCan: Maurice Strong. There was a reason why the company's headquarters in Calgary was nicknamed Red Square.

I boycotted PC myself, though after it became a publicly traded company, I might have bought fuel there from time to time..... but only if I couldn't get it anywhere else.

Obama better be careful..or he better be squeaky clean. Charging an ex-President with treason is possible

Aside from granting pardons to scumbags for the next month I wonder how many other surprises (scorched earth?) Obama has in store for the next Administration. Is the lame duck POTUS also acting as the Spawn's press release agent. Did Butts advise the Spawn to hide behind Obama for this announcement because he didn't have the guts to screw Canadians on his own?

What the hell is Obama going on about? He's preaching economic diversity for the Arctic and sounds just like the NDP in Alberta blaming one sector for dominating the economy. What "industries of the future" is he talking about for that region? Tourism? Polar bear hunting? Making vodka from ice bergs?

Canada would do well to reach out to Alaska to join our country before the Russians claim it back.

B - yeah, I refused to buy from PetroCanada until they were no longer a Crown entity.

As well, Obama may have JT as a bum-boy but both their days are numbered. The half-black, half-muslim child will be gone and the Turdette will have to deal with Trump.

Should be a fun 2017.

This is little more than meaningless political posturing.
O&G industry studies in the 70s and 80s concluded that Arctic operations would always be more expensive than in-situ oilsands recovery, even with using coal to drive it like now. If the in-situ recovery was powered by an on-site CANDU reactor, then oilsand oil was cost competitive with conventional oil production. There is so much recoverable oil available in easy to operate areas, that the Arctic petroleum wouldn't be needed until it was warm enough to keep the Arctic ice-free for most of the year.
It's just another meaningless 'green' gesture.

All that work to add another checkbox to Trump's list of executive orders that he'll undo with a pen swipe. Barry O has no mandate after Nov 8th to pass anything not agreed to by the President Elect (my opinion but I believe shared by many) and his contention that he can ban drilling permanently is typical enviro-wacko bluster. Trump has no illusions that the transition will be a smooth peaceful one. The beaches of Normandy might compare for how many potential hidden pitfalls and traps await the newly electorally elected President Elect. But I think Trump will be storming ashore with his pen a-blaz'n working with his executive authority to undo the last 8 years of progressive damage.

I remember when a number of companies were drilling in a number of Arctic locations, such as the Beaufort Sea. Most of this took place during the 1970s and the early '80s, after which it largely tapered off.

One reason was the NEP as well as the recession of the early 1980s. Oil companies had to cut their costs in order to remain solvent and northern exploration budgets were correspondingly reduced. It wasn't just that it was expensive do drill in that region--there was no guarantee that anything would be discovered, let along in enough quantities to make the effort profitable.

Much of the drilling was done on artificial off-shore islands. It was easy to build them and they were cheaper than floating platforms and there were fewer environmental concerns. However, the companies that used them may have restricted themselves because they were in coastal waters and there may have been greater reserves further away.

Don't forget the effect of the 1977 Berger Report. The proposal to ship Prudhoe Bay area gas by pipeline along the Arctic coast and then down the Mackenzie Valley. When that project was put on hold by the results of Berger's recommendations, interest in off-shore drilling began to decline. If I recall correctly, it was thought that Arctic gas wells in the Beaufort Sea would have been tied in with the main line.

I wonder if the 'One' and Lil Spud asked Mr. Putin if he was interested in joining their Green Energy plan. Seems to me that the two 'Brainiacs' have given the Russians a carte blanc cheque to write with Arctic oil and gas. Between an out-going president and a menage au trois with Wynne, Notley and Trudeau, Canadians are well and truly screwed. This fuster cluck will take generations to undo.

you might want to research how much money the Trudeau's made from the petro can deals.

Nice (vanity) move, Obama ... cheered wildly by your arch nemesis Vladimir Putin. Dumbest president EVER.

"... Trump will have no reason to be friendly ..."

We're not his highest priority, but he'll get around to us, and he'll want to figure out how to make deals with us that are best for the U.S., but good enough for us that we'll want to make more deals.

In the election Mr. Trump went under the heads of the political and media establishment in the U.S. to appeal directly to the people they thought not worth listening to. If he wants to he can probably figure out how to communicate with Canadians, too.

People saying we need a Canadian Trump to lead the Conservatives may be missing the main point. We're a somewhat different country with not all the same issues, but success will come to the Conservative leader if he/she can figure out how to bypass the media filters and not be bound by the constrained by the role written for them by the "natural governing party."

Trudeau/Butts is determined to get off to as poor a start as possible with the new US administration. This began a year ago with snide remarks by Jr when it looked as though Trump was a long shot for the WH. It continued with the top level attention given VP Biden 2 weeks ago; this only reaffirms Liberals preference for Obama priorities. No other country in the world is making deals or having meetings with Obama officials, his time has passed, obviously. So why is Jr doing this?

Expect an orgy of anti-American rhetoric to ramp up in the coming years; this is really the default position for Liberals, and they reckon they can campaign on it come the next election.
Chretien and Martin did this a number of times, until Canadians tired of the routine. Jr is poised to run it all bye us once more, with the new CPC leader whoever if may be cast in the role of Trump-like preferences.

I notice that wherever the ecovangelists want to block resource development they label the area a "unique and fragile ecosystem". Wherever they want to pour concrete pads for bird blenders: meh.

Right. What is more unique and valuable than prime crop growing acreage? Despite thousands of acres of marginal crown land available, Wynne Liberals have positioned all of Ont's industrial turbines on class A growing land. Wind developers like drained, flat accessible land close to concession roads for ease of building (cheap). Ont has seen fit to accommodate them, this land is lost forever to agriculture.

Iowa is pocked with massive wind turbines. It remains a chilling sight amid the beautiful rolling hills. When one considers the Walgreens-sized mass of concrete anchoring each one underground, words fail.

That is ecologically sound?
