One of the guests at the event was a well-heeled donor who was seeking Ottawa’s final approval to begin operating a new bank aimed at Canada’s Chinese community.

  2. Thanks for featuring Kirk Douglass.
Nothing too exciting in Canadian news tonight. The Donald is promising news on the Keystone XL pipeline and soon, and he blasts the F-35 for going over budget as he ridicules Clinton for blaming the Russians for having lost the election.
I liken Hillary blaming her loss on the Russians to an NFL team blaming the Zamboni operator for having lost the Stanley cup.

    Thanks — that’s priceless.

  4. Kirk Douglas…. what can a movie fan say except “Thank you, sir.”
Among my favourite Kirk Douglas movies are:
Out of the Past (one of his earliest, starring Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer),
The Big Sky (with Arthur Hunnicutt),
Seven Days In May (Burt Lancaster, Frederic March, Ava Gardner, Edmond O’Brien, Martin Balsam, and John Houseman), and
In Harm’s Way (John Wayne, Patricia Neal, Henry Fonda, Burgess Meredith, George Kennedy, Carroll O’Connor, Stanley Holloway, and Dana Andrews).

If she dislikes ruskie so much she might ask Podesta Group to stop acting as a chief US lobbyist for ruskie banking and energy sector.

  7. I’m watching PBS right now and it’s showing the latest installment of The Hollow Crown (Henry the Sixth, Part I).
I can’t say I’m impressed by this adaptation. When I watch Shakespeare on TV, I sometimes like to follow along with a copy of the play. Unfortunately, this production is all over the place. A lot of material has been cut and what’s left doesn’t always follow the correct sequence.
Several years ago, I saw the previous plays in the series, the last one being Henry the Fifth. That adaptation was a bit of a stinker. For example, the famous “band of brothers” speech given by Henry before the Battle of Agincourt (which was well done in Kenneth Branagh’s film) was reduced to a rag chew among old buddies.
When will directors, whether they are in Hollywood or working for the BBC, finally heed the universal law: if it works, don’t fix it.

  8. “A Clinton Fan Manufactured Fake News That MSNBC Personalities Spread to Discredit WikiLeaks Docs
John Podesta archive, Clinton campaign officials and their media spokespeople adopted a strategy of outright lying to the public, claiming — with no basis whatsoever — that the emails were doctored or fabricated and thus should be ignored. That lie — and that is what it was: a claim made with knowledge of its falsity or reckless disregard for its truth — was most aggressively amplified by MSNBC personalities such as Joy Ann Reid and Malcolm Nance, The Atlantic’s David Frum, and Newsweek’s Kurt Eichenwald.”

Well, well, our Canadian PROGRESSIVE Conservative David From, speechwriter to George W. Bush, was one of the main culprits. Who would have guessed.

  9. Exactly true, Those are some of the most corrupt governments in the world. Giving them our tax dollars is only supporting more corruption.

“Cold-based glaciers have not changed significantly since the Little Ice Age, Tian said, referring to a period of cooling between the 14th and 19th centuries. The Aru Glacier was expected to change little in the future. The glaciers there were “quite stable,” he said, “with low local precipitation, low glacier movement and cold temperatures.”
As the scientists wrote recently in the Journal of Glaciology, “This is the first known occurrence of an unexpected, instantaneous collapse of a cold-based glacier in a nonvolcanic region.”
Based on GPS imagery and mathematical modeling, coupled with the climate data in the region, the researchers hypothesize the Aru Glacier had begun the process of becoming a polythermal glacier – that is, a mixture of sub-zero ice as well as ice warmed to the melting point.”

  19. The Lack of Pirates Is Causing Global Warming
It’s true. This extremely scientific graph proves it:
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikaandersen/2012/03/23/true-fact-the-lack-of-pirates-is-causing-global-warming/#51b1e3a2a231
You can see that as the number of pirates in the world has decreased over the past 130 years, global warming has gotten steadily worse. In fact, this makes it entirely clear that if you truly want to stop global warming, the most impactful thing to do is — become a pirate.
Because anyone can say anything anywhere these days (pretty much), there’s a lot of fuzzy thinking floating around that seems more legitimate than it would have in former times because it’s in print. Now, don’t get me wrong: I’m a huge proponent of free speech. I just feel we all have to be more discriminating than ever before about what we believe. Not cynical or negative: discriminating.
So, when someone proposes a cause and effect relationship between two things – reduction in pirates causing global warming … – ask for the data that shows they’re related, rather than simply that they’re happening at the same time.
