After every other major US health insurance provider already admitted to generating substantial losses on the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamcare, earlier today Aetna became the latest to report that its annual loss on Obamacare plans would be more than $300 million, and said it had scrapped plans to further expand its Obamacare business next year. More ominously, Aetna joined the biggest US health insurer UnitedHealth in reviewing how, if at all, it would continue providing ACA services in the 15 states it's currently in.

My buddy worked in the US briefly for an insurance company that did health in the early 90’s. At that time NY state passed a law saying you have to take people with pre-existing conditions. Company went from making money to losing a bundle and exiting NY in 2 years.
Obama went for the economic fascist model for good reason. When it failed, the private sector could be blamed as the insurance industry had to factor-in the ridiculous mandates and regulatory quagmire built into the program, leaving only their single payer systems (Medicare, Medicaid and VA) to take over. Given that US liberty is apparently now a lost cause, the Republicans should buy into a universal single payer system but as a quid pro quo, fully deregulate a parallel private system which they haven't experienced for decades. That way Canadians will still have somewhere close to go and pay for timely medical services with their own money. They should be encouraged to adopt a European model rather than the North Korean model that Canada enjoys.

Number one in length of time on waiting lists to see a specialist,#1 in wait times for surgery,up to three years for a hip replacement, six months just to get an MRI,IF you can cajole a Doctor into prescribing that treatment. Six weeks to three months just to get an ultrasound.
Currently, we have a drastic shortage of Doctors in B.C., especially outside Vancouver and Victoria. In a suburb of Kelowna, the last walk-in clinic closes it's door permanently in 3 weeks, 20,000 people will have no doctor or hope of finding one.
Just to get in to see a GP can take as long as 6 (SIX) weeks.

Well, it depends on what you are looking at. Number one for wait lists, I would agree. I am not really complaining. I think the basic problem is too many people needing care and health care being an expensive commodity -- very expensive.
What Canadians don't know is that they can get very affordable Health Care in the USA. They just need to pay cash "NO INSURANCE" and they get the Medicare rates. The person that has any type of Insurance will pay the marked-up Price (used for Medicaid) The poor bugger that buys a bad policy (doesn't pay or has a high deductible) gets totally screwed.
