From retail rescue to retail rabies…
It’s estimated, in fact, that tens of thousands of winsome canine refugees enter the country every year — while many others are shipped vast distances inside Canada.
But the growing, humanitarian-motivated trend is inadvertently creating a major public-health headache, fuelling a rebound in the deadly rabies problem and importing other nasty diseases, public health officials warn.
A federal-government journal has just documented three recent cases of stray puppies being taken from Nunavut or northern Quebec — where the deadly disease is endemic among Arctic foxes — to new homes in southern Canada, only for the owners to discover they had acquired rabid animals.

Hey ! If Madonna and Angelina Jolie can “rescue” poor black children from exotic foreign countries … then I should be able to “rescue” poor mutts from exotic foreign locations. Just imagine what it will do for my personal ego and karma ? Because after all … it IS all about ME … and it has nothing to do with all the other poor children and dogs left behind in assorted hell-holes. They are all doomed to a 3rd world existence in their corrupt, dysfunctional, countries. Hey ! but I saved ONE ! Who cares that I did NOTHING to speak out against the hellish cultures, religions, governments, and leaders who are dooming millions of others to a horrific life. I save ONE ! Look at ME ! can I please get one of those rabid puppies? I want to train it to bite Kathleen Wynne and as many of her fellow elected Libranos as possible before it expires from the disease.
With all this focus on dogs they’re neglecting the live lobsters in the grocery stores, I want to see more buying of lobsters and shipping them back to the Atlantic, save the lobsters before it’s too late.
But how will they survive in the wild with blue rubber bands around their claws ?
