Postcard from Trudeaupia;
How long can a person be without pay before someone with clout can make a difference?
Everyone says don’t go public or you’ll get blacklisted.
But I can’t live on air.
Local managers have been great about trying to help, but the problem seems to not be a priority higher up and people are having trouble getting heard in a way that gets anything done.
I started in the beginning April and I got one part payment for my first pay period and nothing else since.
I don’t get how the government can continue not paying some people at all. I’m just afraid it’s going to take many more months after my contract is done. Or worse.
I just have had no regular pay at all since the first week of April. And I’m only one small case. There are many more!
When you call the pay centre, you get a busy signal and then they hang up. It just goes in circles.

Ha, this one was a time bomb left by the Conservatives.
“Phoenix is the last of the two-stage “pay transformation” that the previous Conservative government initiated in 2009 when it decided to put the pay centre in Miramichi as a trade-off for jobs lost when the long-gun registry was closed.”
This boondoggle reflects more the general incompetence of government bureaucracies than any particular partisan idiocy.
But please, don’t let me interfere with a healthy round of JT-bashing.
I would guess it’s a hangover from the days of the CGI gun registry.

This typical of the systems put into operation by the Liberal Party of Canada-Ontario-Quebec where the Crony Crowd start to earn their sinecures (read ongoing Pay-Cheques).
Neither the Librano Crony Crowd or the Union Bosses want the corrections made too quickly because it will not be an assistance in Hiring more Crony/Union tax-payer Jobs.
Remember the Ontario Health Education Computerized Scam. The Head of the Project ended up paying Herself over $800,000.00/year. This was for having a Budget Costing more than One Billion Tax-payer Funding Dollars provided by the Ontario Tax-payers.
The final decision was to scrap and start over. The Ontario Government’s Liberal Branch decided rehiring their original Crony back would be wise and went elsewhere. I am not sure if the New Contract was with the Same Company or The Ontario branch hired the Company which was unsuccesful in establishing the New Brunswick System.
So,that headline should have read,”Postcard from Harperia”?
Yes, doesn’t matter who is in power, some of us are more equal than others, especially if we lucked out and have a government job.
Not in my World! —-Time to find John Galt. Would it be Hilarious to find out Donald Trump is an Alias?
Huh. eligible for Old Age Security? Did they tell you the approval system before you see a penny, to confirm your residence eligibility, takes 32 weeks? 7 1/2 months! For a native born Canadian who’s lived in the same house for 40 years… They should call it the Old Age Estate Security, since many may be dead before they get it.
Oh gee. A bunch of government workers complaining about how difficult it is to deal with the government. Hard to feel sorry for them.
I’m praying for an asteroid, myself.
“trouble getting heard in a way that gets anything done.”
Cry my a river, all you lard-@$$ed, paper-pushing bureaucrats!
Now you know all the rest of us feel when forced to deal with you lazy, competence-free dunderheads.
I’d like to sign on for the asteroid. It’d be nice to see several government departments AND the union take one on the chin over this.
Dear government employees, now you know how we feel. QUIT YOUR JOB, and go get a real one in the private sector if you want to see things improve.
Nearly 30 years ago, I worked at a certain federal government facility as a contractor. Something that became apparent was how often people had meetings. One wag’s comment to that was: “I meet, therefore I am.”
As for government employees being overworked, that certainly wasn’t the case in the building I was in. December was, in effect, a month-long party for many of them unless there was something urgent to attend to. The only people who were actually working, often because we had deadlines to meet and milestone objectives to achieve, were us contractors.
Your tax money at work, folks.
Nothing new. When I was a reservist 35 years ago, sometimes we would get paid, sometimes we would’t. If you didn’t get paid it might take months to sort out and it didn’t always get sorted out. Now that they have computers to do it you can can probably really screw it up. It’s a good thing most of us were doing it for the f of it because if we were doing it for the money, non of us would have been there.
My experience as a contractor working in government buildings agrees with your observation. The only people actually appearing to do any work are the lowest strata of the bureaucratic pyramid. People above them spend their time talking to each other in meetings or on the phone. I have absolutely no sympathy for unionized government office workers; they’re the most entitled group of ‘do-nothings’ in our society.
When a company I was a part-owner of did contract work for the FedGov, the joke around our office was that when we invoiced the Feds “Net 30,” they thought we meant “months.”
I’ll never work for the Feds again, and neither will any other company I have an ownership say in.
Now, the Alberta government (at least prior to The Forces of Darkness™ taking control) used to be pretty decent about payment — and they were, generally, much more intelligent and educated people to work for.
This is just too beautiful.
The Union Govt employees whining about the service they provide.
The concentration of incompetence and evil retained at Miramichi , redirected to wreak their havoc on public service payrolls rather than gun owners..
I guess Harper thought they were too dangerous for the CRA.
Next put the Miramichi Mob in charge to work place safety in govt offices.
And film it.
“Can’t live on air?”
What, you mean like people have to in the real world because Ottawa and the provinces take half their pay so otherwise unemployable “civil servants” can sit at cubicles all day exchanging videos of kittens and their darling Justin?
Does it ever occur to them to go get real jobs where they have to show up on time, sober, and able to speak English? Of course not. Only fools and Tories do that.
I was a sub working for a General supplying services to the Feds, but (knowing how the Feds roll) I wrote my contract based on my performance, meeting certain mileposts. They did not get paid for nine months after the end of the job, and it did not escape their notice that I was the only one getting paid on time.
Actually this is carrying on the unification of pay centres started back in the early 2000’s by the Libs.
The Agency I worked for did the same thing, closing all local pay offices, creating 2 massive pay centres, with under trained, over-worked employees saddled with a completely new pay system. 10 years later, they are still a mess. The Libs at the same time did the same thing with call centres serving the Canadian public. The same Lib MPs who complain about the poor service prior to the last Fed election, are the same one who implemented the service changes in the first place. Looking at you Ralph Goodale.
Could bilingualism be part of the problem? In Ottawa and I suspect in New Brunswick the priority is placed on being able to speak French more than on other job-related skills.
keeping bureaucrats working no matter how bad a job they do. keeping bureaucrats working who should have lost their jobs with the closure of the gun registry. I wonder if we will ever see a reduction of unneeded manpower?
