  1. Yes, very weird that people would not want to crowd in cramped spaces with other people from Third World countries that you would never visit in a lifetime, even with offered free airfare.
In addition you can enjoy some crack-head/ meth-head eyeballing your purse, or the likelihood of some Leftist Liberal forgetting to take their meds and having a “social moment”.
Oh well blame it on the economy if it makes you feel better.

  2. Calgary Transit is looking at a similar outcome. Not only have they pushed up fares but now will be trying to make all the public parking stalls at C-train park-n-rides reserved for monthly parking for something like $87/month. When the $100/month transit pass is thrown in the total cost is approaching $200. A decent parking spot can be had downtown for something around $225. People are obviously choosing to pay a little more and drive themselves…or in my case, unemployed and not wanting to pay high transit costs so avoiding travel when I can. The socialists have priced themselves out of the market for the services offered.

  3. I believe the drop has everything to do with Justin Trudeau cutting the tax credit associated with transit passes and people getting back into their cars as there is not longer an economic advantage to taking transit.
This so exposes his two faced attitude towards Global warming. Seems to Trudeau, rojects are good when they involve lots of contracts dolled out to Liberal crownies, but like the transit passes deduction when they benefit the taxpayer (and drive lower tax revenue) they must be stopped.

  4. More headscarves ought to help, eh?
The inescapable smell of urine makes me NOT want to climb down into a hole every time, personally.

  5. Let me count the causes:
    * much higher fares
    * generally crappy service city-wide on the buses, not just on the subway
    * the entire economy of Ontario – not just Toronto – is spiraling downward because we’re “Wynneing”
    * when the TTC has breakdown / stoppage issues, people don’t have to wait, they can call Uber
    * check the ridership out beyond the TTC’s reach. I bet those blue buses up north of Steeles and east / west of the Toronto boundaries have increased ridership as people grow up, get married, have kids and move OUT of the city
    * free riders abound, especially at night when drivers are afraid to confront them for refusing to pay
    * they could be down $20 million from counterfeit / fake tokens and cards, not just from fewer riders …has anybody NOT employed by the TTC actually seen the turnstile counts to confirm it truly is fewer riders?
Sounds to me like they’re hoping to shakedown more money from PM Justine Selfie Nice Hair and Wynne.

  6. Toronto is Ontario at it’s most socialistic. Ottawa is close behind. Ridership goes down when the granola crunchers ride their bikes to work and play, we’ll soon look like China without the smog, Katie Wynne is taking care of that with subsidies for electric cars. Who would want to rub elbows and other parts in crowded public transportation…it’s kind of a sure way to spread bugs, a la you’ve got it, I’ve got it , we’ve all got it. You take your chances.

  7. “TTC ridership continues to decline compared with the agency’s targets …”
Is it declining compared with last year’s ridership?

  8. gee. and to think Tranna gets all those perks and advantages from voting Lieberal and lookie lookie, wind up with highest housing costs and mediocre everything else.
such an unconscionable betrayal by the politishuns. and to think it doesn’t matter *who* is in office, they ALL do it.

  9. ““Our view is it is linked to the economy.” He said that while Toronto’s unemployment rate isn’t as bad as it has been, sometimes there is a lag between economic upturns and corresponding increased transit use.”
Wouldn’t it seem likely that ridership would go DOWN if the economy turned UP (and I find it hard to believe that’s happening in Ontario…).

  10. Unfortunately this is how companies are run these days.
You project your revenue for the next fiscal year on what you hope to make and then at the end of the year make up excuses why you missed revenue targets.
The TTC would make a great gold producer.

  11. I thought all those hyper green socialists in Toronto always took the TTC. They always give the impression that they skip hand in hand to the TTC stop while the local harpist is playing. They sing Kumbaya as they travel to the local fresh market with their re usable bags and get their $10.00 frapichino, while waving at the passer-bys. Oh I’m sorry it is just us peons that have to take mass transit. The kumbaya’s are driving there fossil fuel guzzling SUV’s

  12. Is ridership dropping, or is it only paid ridership? In most of the world only suckers pay their fare and everyone just jumps the turnstile. Less money in the fare box could just be another benefit of multiculturalism.
