  1. Naomi Klein’s LEAP if implemented in Canada would turn Canada into a carbon copy of Venezuela and Cuba. Roy Romano would not approve.

  2. Klein and all the other “progressives” have been on radio silence regarding their beloved Bolivarian revolution for quite some time now.
It’s a coping mechanism for dealing with realities that contradict their notions.

  3. I can confirm that sense of denial.
Someone I was friends with while I was a freshman became a radical leftist a few years later. He thought the left was socially just, even though his political idols in eastern Europe had a record of crushing dissent (e. g., East Germany 1953, Hungary 1956, Czechoslovakia 1968). Whenever I brought up such inconsistencies in his beliefs, he laughed them off as either being inconsequential or, possibly, propaganda.
Fortunately, I lost touch with him over the years. I’m sure, though, that he would be over-joyed at the elections of Red Rachel and Prime Minister Vapid and can’t wait until Canada becomes like Venezuela.

  4. I had a look again at the lunatic Leap outline, and confirmed what it says about future energy sources. It does call for non carbon energy economy in a mere 20 years. High speed trains powered by renewable electricity? “localized and ecological agriculture”etc.
Klein and Lewis appear to be well fed and presumably have a heated home in Totonto. So crops would be planted with electric tractors powered by wind energy? Combines likewise would run on renewable electricity?
How food would be delivered to their upscale Toronto neighbourhood is left unsaid, but currently every food item is grown and delivered with diesel/gas powered equipment.Every consumer item imaginable relies on petroleum products for manufacture or delivery.
Even popular CDs the lifeblood of the misguided rock musicians signing on are plastic reliant.
Klein in effect calls for a return to the bucolic days of Upper Canada. Somehow I don’t see her tilling a small garden plot and putting up winter preserves and root crops. One item curiously unmentioned is air travel, even Klein can’t quite envision what fuel they would use, but it is unlikely she and her followers would want to give that up.
And 12 NDP riding associations call for this to be in the program? Maybe there is room for a conservative program after all.

  5. Typically, the leftists who make such pronouncements are, themselves, prosperous and comfortable. It is up to us, the proletariat, to made the “necessary” sacrifices.
They, on the other hand, won’t actually do anything or spend one cent towards that cause. Their comfort and well-being is necessary for the revolution, you see.
I’ve been involved with alternate power generation for more than 30 years. I earned my last 2 graduate degrees by investigating small-scale renewable energy systems. Those systems are feasible and can work, but they can be quite expensive. I’ve modelled one system, based on my own apartment, and I’m trying to figure out how to get the cost down.
Clearly, what Entitled Princess Klein and Commissar Rachel are proposing is rubbish. There is no way that such systems can work effectively and economically, based on current technology and methods. The backup energy system alone would be largely impractical.
However, they aren’t serious about this. If they were, they would be advocating and supporting research programs that will develop utility-scale systems and do so in a manner similar to the Manhattan Project.
For example, there’s a method of nuclear fusion that has been demonstrated as feasible. It’s called inertial electrostatic confinement, sometimes referred to as polywell. The late Dr. Robert Bussard headed a group in the U. S. that built a number of reactors that actually operated. I believe the eventual goal was to use a proton-boron reaction, for which the products would be heat and helium–no neutrons. (I’m not sure what the current status of the project is as its government funding was cut nearly 10 years ago.)

  6. It’s mentioned in the National Post article that the official price of gas isn’t easy to figure…
    From the Devil’s Excrement site:
“The first important announcement by Maduro was the first increase in the price of gasoline since Chávez was first elected in 1998. In fact, then candidate Chávez asked President Caldera to hold off on scheduled increases until after the election. Thus, the price of gasoline in Venezuela has stayed constant for over 17 years. While the rate of exchange has gone from Bs. 0.57 per US$ to Bs. 1,045 per US$, the price of gasoline had been kept constant at Bs. 0.097 per liter (US$ 0.000097 per liter or US$ 0.0004268 per gallon). So you get it, in this post in 2014, I filled my car in Caracas in 2014 with about 10 gallons of gas and paid the equivalent today of barely 4.2 cents in US$ for the ten gallons to fill up.
So, today Maduro increased the price of 95 octane gasoline from Bs. 0.097 per liter to Bs. 6 per liter, a 6,000-plus percent increase, but in the end:
Venezuela went today from having the cheapest gasoline in the world, to having the cheapest gasoline in the world.
How cheap? Well, if you consider a standard 14 gallon gas tank, at Bs. 6 per liter, you will be paying to fill up the tank a total of US$ 0.37 or all of 37 cents in US$. That is how cheap it will continue to be.”

  7. I get the impression my hard-core lefty acquaintances believe white people will do a much better job of socialisming than brown people, actual quote: “Why do people always bring up Cuba and Venezuela and not Sweden?” But we know where the real racists are on the political spectrum.

  8. Well Sweden isn’t the least bit like Cuba and Venezuela. In fact, the Swedish model is a free market capitalist economic system that features high degrees of private ownership.

  9. “Do a full Venezuela and don’t worry about the outcome. How bad could total economic collapse be, after all…
Let me finish that sentence for ya, Kelly
…voters in 9 out of 10 provinces have shown us that they’re happy to engineer their own hangin’.”

  10. “Why do people always bring up Cuba and Venezuela and not Sweden?”
Well Sweden is the Rape Capital of Europe in the 21st century, and I’m betting those Latin American countries don’t fair much better. Although “What constitutes rape” is a meme of the left that embraces skin color as a deciding factor.
Example #1 – “Gang Raped” by Muslim men of North African origin equates to disaffected youth shunned by the remnants of right wingers in their Socialist Host country’s.
Example #2 – Complaining about being groped or masturbated on a non “gender segregated bus” in Socialist Lain America, means not pandering to a macho culture of hot blooded men you read about in a Romantic storybook.
Example #3 – Two white blue collar workers wolf whistling a woman in a mini skirt walking through a construction site is RAPE, RAPE, RAPE!

  11. I’ve noticed for a while now that the leftists are trying to change the definition of socialism in a classic Orwellian style of “control the language” exercise. The Scandinavian countries they often declare as model socialist states are really just social democracies to be accurate. None of them have subscribed to the 100% government ownership of all means of production and labour as prescribed by socialism. Furthermore, none of these Scandinavian countries’ economic systems can be described as extremely regressive feudal enslavement systems which, is precisely how socialism manifests itself.

  12. It could have been a complete coincidence, but it was shortly after Klein released the the LEAP Manifesto that the election shifted from what was looking like the NDP was going to win. It was mid September, the NDP was still in the lead in the polls, then began to fall. The “progressives” abandoned them, the Conservatives took the lead for a couple weeks, then the same “progressives” decided to side with the Liberals. Again, this could be a coincidence.

  13. You’ve touched on the crux of the problem with “renewable energy”, but which often, dare I say always, gets forgotten, when the far left eco-extremists start waxing poetic over their wondrous, miraculous new alternative systems.
I’ve always believed, if one spends enough money on any given problem or issue, it can be solved, but, there is at least one major caveat to that statement.
    Is it cost-effective?
The lefty eco-extremists disregard that question. The world is gonna die, dontcha know, therefore, all common sense must be abandoned, water levels might rise 30cm in the next century, heavens to Betsy, we GOTTA do something!!!!!!
I keep waiting for the tar, feathers, and pitchforks to come out in Morontariowe, but instead, it appears that, that province will just do a slow wither, where much of the productive class just leaves, rather than fight, and leave the place for the leftists and welfare class to stumble along, much like their Maritime provinces, where welfare, EI, and government spending are the big industries.
    The west will eventually prevail.
In any event, renewable energy will always be a niche industry. Built on a grand scale, it is nothing but a big financial black hole, wasteful, totally dependent on massive government subsidy, either in the construction phase, or, in the production phase. That is inescapable.
Whether its solar, wind, or let’s say electric cars, massive subsidization is the only thing that makes them exist. And there is no evidence to suggest that will change anytime soon. despite what solar advocates, or electric car fans say. Both parties tend to disregard the fact that massive government subsidies are the only reason they are options

  14. This is why “The NDP will always be the NDP!”
During the campaign, it was just a sham, a different frontman, trying to appear to be reasonable, moderate, a soothsayer, appearing to be just Gramps next door, who really, really meant well.
Once PM Sunni Daze went full pinko, he cornered Angry Tom and the DipComs, I’m sure, surprising the Dips with their hard turn left. The jig was up, along with Qbec support, with the burqa fiasco.
One thing that remains true, forever, with the NDP, they will NEVER change. They are bought and paid for by the unions. They must take their marching orders, as given, from the Marxists. The unions will never tolerate any move to the center.
Witness Alberta, no matter what the DipComs say, their actions speak louder than their platitudes.
The LEAP manifesto is mainstreet NDP territory. Always has been. Union people are, typically, horribly naive and in denial about the real, true, intentions of the Dips, “It will be different here”….despite evidence to the contrary, in 100% of other experiments with the DipComs.
Klein, Fruit Fly, Shakey, and the rest of the champagne socialists, would not be affected by any massive societal changes. Like Shakey, they can just live in the states, and dictate to the peasants how they should live, without any effect on their own lives.
They should all be forced to spend a year in their Venezuelan paradise, to view first hand the result of their favoured policies

  15. I’m sure that renewable energy will work for locally distributed systems, such as housing developments. But for powering a city from a central generating station, probably not.
I’ve read a variety of renewable energy publications and it became abundantly clear that most designers haven’t a clue on how to do it right. The systems are either under-powered, so that they have to have backup from either utilities or stand-alone gensets, or they have too much capacity and the excess that’s produced gets dumped. (This is the problem I’ve been looking at in my research. I’d like to minimize how much the system either falls short of or exceeds the load demand.)
They could put the excess back into the grid, but–oh, boy!–there are a lot of hoops to jump through in order to do that. Bureaucrats want to have their fingers in everything.
Some of the authors in those publications advocate “guerilla installations”, where renewable systems are illicitly connected to the grid. Those are not only illegal but, quite likely, unsafe and dangerous.
I’m sure that a solution exists, but people aren’t going about it in the right way.

  16. Adoption of LEAP would be the end of Mulcair who – love him or not – tried to make the NDP at least seem like a party of grown-ups, understanding that hard-left “progressivism” was a non-starter if the party was to maintain its position in Parliament.
Now that the party is back in the wilderness, Mulcair’s days have got to be numbered as, like UK Labour, the NDP seeks a Corbynite saviour for itself.

  17. remember ol’ Buzzzzzzzzzzz Hargrove and his simplistic ‘strategic voting’ to PUNISH the new democraps in Ontariariario by voting lieberal?
typical myopic union bloop collar thinking; shoot themselves in the nuts because they don’t get everything they want. folks, we *really* don’t have to worry and fret about them. they continue to do this. the reason they get voted in here and there is testament to the exceptionally short memory of Canuckistan voters.
Notley was eating crow on the news this morning about the Rebel reporters brooha.
    Gawd this could be a great country if . . . . . .

  18. Did you mean former Saskatchewan Premier Roy Romanow of the NDP, or comedian Ray Romano? Just curious, I think both of them would recognize that Naomi Klein is nuts.

  19. should I mention which demographic the lefty twit is from, and watch the religious nut jobs in here get their pinko panties in a bunch, or will I let them guess for them selves….Oh, and her lessor half is also from the same demo
how come so many times we denigrate some retarded lefty in here it’s one that makes their mother country, Israel shudder????

  20. By choosing Corbyn as its leader, Labour in the UK has guaranteed that it’ll lose the next election. Then again, Labour has a tendency to shoot itself in the foot. It didn’t have an effective party leader during the Thatcher and Major years and it wasn’t until people got tired of the Conservatives that it finally formed the government.

  21. oh joy, another cryptic anti-Semitic comment from NME666. The fact that Naomi Klein and her hubby are Jewish doesn’t mean that all Jews are leftards. It just means that they are leftards who happen to be Jewish. On the other hand, if one was to conclude that all anti-Semites are bigots with room-temperature IQs (and that would be Celsius in your case, NME666), that would be a vastly more reasonable assumption.
