“When the President does it, that means that it is not illegal”

They’ve blown past the Nixon parallels and into completely new territory: U.S. Spy Net on Israel Snares Congress.

The National Security Agency’s targeting of Israeli leaders and officials also swept up the contents of some of their private conversations with U.S. lawmakers and American-Jewish groups. That raised fears–an “Oh-s– moment,” one senior U.S. official said–that the executive branch would be accused of spying on Congress.
White House officials believed the intercepted information could be valuable to counter Mr. Netanyahu’s campaign. They also recognized that asking for it was politically risky. So, wary of a paper trail stemming from a request, the White House let the NSA decide what to share and what to withhold, officials said. “We didn’t say, ‘Do it,’ ” a senior U.S. official said. “We didn’t say, ‘Don’t do it.’ ”

Plus,

Not that it matters anymore.

  1. Pretty sure that Harper was exempt and that the Obama admin would never share illegally garnered info with the libs.

  2. Hey Barry.
Whatever you do, don’t lean forward to shake Bibi’s hand.
We wouldn’t want you to put yourself out or anything.

  3. The freedom loving Republicans in Congress could defund this activity, but they won’t, because most of them don’t give a D about freedom. They deserve as much blame as the President.

  4. There is actually nothing new in any of this.
If your national COMINT collection capability intercepts the conversations of foreigners, at some point it will inevitably intercept ones that involve your own nationals.
Agencies such as the NSA therefore develop extensive protocols to handle this sort of situation.
When looking for any sort of “smoking gun” here, it’s not the fact that communications involving foreign nationals and citizens were intercepted but rather how the “citizen-end” of such intercepts were handled.

  5. Kinda what someone would expect after a SPECTRE-like organization takes over the “useful” parts of the World. Giving the illusion of freedom and democracy while controlling decisions and agenda from below the noticeable surface. It’s almost like the NSA, EPA, NOAA, IRS,FBI, etc. is staffed with White House people and it’s understood that they are serving a “greater” purpose than merely protecting the American people while safe-guarding from immediate threats. They seem to be part of a big re-engineering effort. And yeah, one wonders how much “help” was given to the Shiny pony chapter.

  6. What is that word C.N.N. uses to describe Politicians? Oh Yeah “Clowns”. Except these are Chuckie-type Clowns.

  7. Wasn’t too long ago, those that would be our masters used to find,
“ It’s now a very good day to get out anything we want to bury”
I guess the present American administration is so contemptuous of its serfs that it doesn’t even afford them the effort of attempting to hiding its illegality.
IT is now way past time for a Cromwell, and thats true for most of the west.

  9. President Richard M. Nixon was a Republican who was impeached by Congress for spying on the Democrats. President B. Hussein Obama is a Democrat who is facing absolutely ZERO consequences for spying on BOTH parties of Congress! Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) leads the Israeli lobby in Congress and he is as silent as a mute about his own party’s president spying on him and his fellow elected Democrats. If somebody wrote this as fiction it wouldn’t sell, because good novels need at least a small shred of plausibility. I continue to be surprised and disappointed that nobody in Obama’s Secret Service detail has been patriotic enough to put a bullet in his head for the good of the nation and the free world.
(hey, do YOU hear helicopters outside too?! …are they black?!)

  10. The interesting thing about Nixon is that he resigned. He was not impeached but impeachment was likely. The other interesting thing was that no-one accused him of committing a crime other than not ratting out his friends when he became aware of their activities. He should have not asked the question on the tapes “who the hell authorized that.” Had he taken care to insulate himself from Watergate information, he would have likely survived his full second term.

C’mon, you know that is not going to happen. That would definitely start a civil war. And Secret Service agents don’t just watch for external threats; they watch each other, too.
The black helicopters are no joke either. I’ve seen them, black with no markings. They weren’t after me or anything like that, I just lived next door to a small airport in South Carolina that the CIA uses as a training facility.

  12. Where is someone out there willing to tell the truth and clean house?
Oh yeah, think he’s already running for President.
And it’s gonna be YUGE when he wins…

  13. Let’s all just save a whole sh!t ton of money and time and go right to the inevitable conclusion of any investigation that might be launched: Barry is being targeted because he’s black. The end.

  14. scar, Nixon, Ford, WH Bush Johnson all knew what happened that day in Dealey plaza. Hunt, one of the “plumbers” and also one of the 3 tramps admitted to what was going on in both instances. So, a lot of people know what happened , and yet no one has come forward. It has been suggested that the Dems had proof of a conspiracy and that was the reason for the break in at Watergate. So Nixon probably resigned so as to avoid a hearing/trial and have the whole thing blow open. It ain’t the man behind the curtain, it’s the crowd behind the curtain.

As much as you might like it to be true, you’re conflating two entirely different activities.
Nixon did overstep his bounds by engaging in what was quite illegal eavesdropping on domestic political opponents.
The situation with the Israelis is an entirely different matter. Obama isn’t “spying” on Congress and it’s not illegal to eavesdrop electronically on foreign leaders.
But as I stated earlier here, that might well mean you will collaterally pick up your own citizens in the communications too.
Presumably what you’re saying then is we should also not monitor the communications of, say, suspected foreign terrorists because there’s a chance the intercepts will reveal conversations involving our own nationals.

  16. As far as Israel is concerned, privately they must consider Obama a waste of skin. Obama has earned that badge of regard many times over. Officially of course, they must feign respect. I would guess that the back-channels between members of the US congress and Israel have been extremely active during this Administration. Perhaps Obama is curious to find out what Americans actually say to the Israeli government while he is fully scripted by Valery Jarrett.
Whatever mischief these agencies have been up to, I would bet that Israel is easily on top of it as they aren’t handicapped in so many ways as the US leviathan.

  17. As I have been saying since the IRS scandal, Obama makes Nixon look like an Angel.
Watergate was a tiny little scandal compared to what Obama has done ( and will do in the coming year )
Yet the liberal media is silent on the crooked, traitorous Obama…

  18. Communists, alive and well and living in DC and Ottawa. Imagine the screaming if this was done by a republican president. it becomes increasingly difficult to think or believe that my fellow citizens have even a small amount of intelligence. I know they lack any wisdom, they prove that daily.

  19. The president didn’t do it. The NSA did, likely in response to well-established US national intelligence requirements regarding the intentions and positions of foreign leaders.
I’d be surprised – indeed, disappointed – if any US administration (Republican or Democrat) did not direct such collection in pursuance of national foreign policy objectives.

  20. And you keep living in your conspiracy-based alternate universe.
Tell me, what colour is the sky in your world?
