I don't know why, but when I was watching the swearing in of Justin Trudeau, and the people in ecstasy over the new PM and his cabinet etc., it brought back memories of when were out harvesting at night in SW Saskatchewan, in the heart of the Land of the Living Skies. And please, don't get me wrong, I was kid once too, and I did get excited over the prospect of a new government in Ottawa. And kids should have dreams and aspirations, just as long as they don't fall to hard when coming back down to earth.

If you were raised on a grain farm on the prairies, you all know the wonderful feeling of laying in the warm wheat, on your back, at night, in the box of the old Ford, GMC or IHC, and gazing straight up at the stars. The fun part was trying to imagine just what it is that was out there. I was the truck driver, along with my younger brother, who always had problems keeping a civil tongue, God keep his soul. I exclaimed, ''My god, look how nice it is to see all those stars sparkling at the same time.'' He didn't say a word. Then suddenly he said, ''That's all very nice, but what the f*&% keeps them all together.'' He was about 12, and 40 years later, I remember thinking about that during his funeral service.

It's all very nice to dream about the new government. But who the f&?% kept it all together when things were getting tough? And why had Canada called on Stephen Harper to start with?? Lets not lose sight of reality!

The narrative being formed now is that we have emerged from the dark tunnel of ten years of conservative rule to the broad, sunlight uplands (sorry, Winston) of Liberal government. Once this history gets firmly implanted in people's minds, we will have an even more difficult time of getting back in power.

During the oath taking the interpretor who was French kept saying the Privy Council with a long i. Justin's English is actually better than his French which came across in the debates as too school French unlike Duceppe's.

An engineering student who went off on a stabbing spree Wednesday, wounding four people on the campus of U.C.-Merced before being shot and killed by police, has been identified as Faisal Mohammad.
