  2. She is absolutely right. Demolish the existing building and build something modern and impressive — designed for the purpose. This is a great idea. I hope it catches on. Very few Canadians will have ever visited 24 Sussex. I think Rideau Hall is historically more significant.

  3. 24 sussex is like a car that costs more in repairs than the payments on a brand new one with all new and clever conveniences. the wishful thinking is that at some pont the repairs will be enough to keep the thing running, but then you find out how many things can go wrong with an old car.
ask me how I know. lol !!
with residential buildings however, it is MUCH easier to look at and inside things and see right away the extent of the defects.
bulldoze the thing and put up something worthy of this prosperous dignified peaceful country Canada. something that will be here 100 yrs from now. perhaps it will be viewed that PM Harper in fact did exactly the correct thing eschewing great expenditure during his 2 terms.
    it’s a win-win-win situation.
which pretty much guarantees the sentimentalists and bureaucraps will dominate and 20 million + will be squandered on this dilapidated dump.

“National Post View: Renovate and restore 24 Sussex Drive”
“Today, prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau must consider whether he will renovate the existing building, bulldoze his once-and-again family home and rebuild a newer, more efficient space, or do away with the notion of an official residence for Canada’s prime minister altogether.”

“Dr. Chandra resigned from Memorial in 2002. He is an officer of the Order of Canada for being a “leader in medical research” in the areas of pediatrics and immunology, according to the Governor-General’s website. His personal website lists him as president of the Nutritional Immunology & Allergy Center in India. He is also registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and lists his primary practice in Mississauga, Ont. A woman who answered the phone at a number provided on his registration said he was out of the country. An e-mail sent to Dr. Chandra was not answered.”
“The new investigation, which has taken more than eight years and was interrupted numerous times, will be published soon, he said.”

The Middle East Media Research Institute study said “known jihadists” and supporters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were rejoicing at the election of a government committed to halting Canada’s involvement in the international air coalition.
“The reactions generally expressed joy and displayed a triumphalist outlook at this development, including statements such as ‘Canada runs away’ and referring to it as ‘the crumbling of the Crusader alliance,’” said Elliot Zweig, the report’s author…
