In reality Putin’s young bombing campaign has hit very few Islamic State targets. Yes, aircraft have flown and bombs have been dropped, but the Russians have no ground intelligence in place to identify targets any more than the United States has, except in those rare occasions when black-flagged vehicles are actually seen driving around in broad daylight–which is why the Islamic State has expanded ever since the U.S. bombing started. But Putin must certainly be innocent of the accusation that his air force has bombed the U.S.-trained “pro-democracy” freedom fighters, because the trainers themselves have admitted that the first lot on which one-tenth of the budget has been spent, i.e., $50 million, are exactly five in number, the rest having deserted after receiving their big family-support signing bonus and first paycheck, or after they were first issued with weapons (which they sold), or after first entering Syria in groups, when they promptly joined the anti-American Jabhat an-Nuṣrah, whose Sunni Islam they understand, unlike talk of democracy. That guarantees Putin’s innocence: All five extant U.S.-made freedom fighters are reportedly alive and well, though one may have defected since the last count. (It would really be much cheaper to hire Salvadoran contract gunmen and fit them out in Arab head-dresses.)

Very good, I was thinking the same thing with regards to the imaginary AAAA (American Allies Against Assad), there was plenty of news about the complete failure of Obama’s Syrian policy… all the equipment and weapons (including the weapons that were likely being run through Benghazi) ending up in Daesh and Al Queda hands, a handful of allies trained at a cost of tens of millions of dollars each, then the Russians start bombing and it’s “ooh ooh they’re bombing the US-backed good guys!”. How did the Russians ever find them?
I would also like to take the opportunity to point out to American and European lefties, now that “no borders!” and “no-one is illegal” has become part of their core dogma requiring 100% support from all party faithful – watch Putin, and the Chinese, for a demonstration of what “no borders” means in the real world, by lefty standards what’s so bad about Russian economic migration across old-fashioned borders?

As I’ve written here before, the direct threat to Russia by the self-described Islamic nut jobs is real, since many of the fighters are from Chechnya.
The dictators there may not have been examples of Jeffersonian democracy, but they did manage to keep the Islamic nut jobs from slaughtering and driving Christians out of the ancient lands they’ve lived in for more than two millennia.
Bush started it by taking out Saddam Hussein; Obama continued it by taking out Khaddafi and Mubarak.

Putin has invoked the old Ruski bombing strategy from Afghanistan – hitting specific targets is moot – the point is to reduce the livable/shelter environment for the enemy and prep the stage for thermal bombing and ground mop up – scorched earth – easy to do in these muzzie sandlots.

Of course the Russians attacked rebel targets; they’re the ones who were defeating Assad, hence the invitation, not ISIS who were already under attack from the coalition. VD Hanson has it spot on; the “Sovieteconomic” leadership wants to establish a Shiite orbit/alliance with Syria, Iraq & Iran, taking that side in the current hegemonic Islamist worldwide civil war. If it weren’t for Israel I’d say leave them to it, we don’t need their stinking oil anyway.
Your zealots don’t want foreigners in your country or communities, so we’ll go. Back that up with a mother of all humanitarian projects, so they Russians won’t need to send any “aid” convoys, as they do in Ukraine. We and our allies have more than the oil we need. China will buy all the oil the ME wants to sell. Russia will sell China all the oil they want. Also, according to the article, many of the US-trained rebels have now joined various Islamic causes and are now not only fighting Assad, but each other.
Kinda reminds me of the mess during WWII in Ukraine, where their independence movement donned the Waffen SS uniforms and the Ukrainian civilian population was being slaughtered on three sides. At least, that’s what I saw in a credible documentary about that period.
So, now you have a bunch of Islamic factions, which have a history of aligning with the Axis side, who are butchering each other and all those who do not agree with their worldview.

#1. Russia is a military semi-superpower – Canada is not.
#2. Russia controls its borders from Islamic invasion – Canada does not.
#3. Syria and the ME are in Russia’s backyard – Canada is not.
Outside of that, the US is NOT taking care of ISIS and Al Qaeda in the Middle East; it is arming them and using them as a proxy army against Assad and anyone else in the region that opposes them. The last time I checked THEY the Islamic extremists were the direct threat to the peoples of the west.
To date only Russia has stepped up to do anything substantial to stop the spread of ISIS after their creation by the US & EU via the “Arab Spring”. Putin has clearly out manoeuvred Obamba by offering a coalition to stop ISIS – Obamba has refused.
So piss on ISIS and any government that supplies them arms and safe sanctuary to raise recruits & money, including ALL western governments that partake in that endeavor.
