  1. Tonight, (Sept. 30) the CBC ran the following headline!!
Lise Thibault ordered to repay $300K, serve 18 months
    Crown was seeking a 4-year-sentence for Quebec’s former lieutenant-governor

Now stealing from the government in Quebec and Ottawa is definitely not news. However I am quite surprised that the CBC forgot to mention that Mme Thibault was a member of the Liberal Party of Quebec, and member of the Liberal Party of Canada. She ran unsuccessfully as a (Liberal) member of the Quebec assembly in 1981, and as a (Liberal) federal MP in 1984 in that province. She was also president of the ”commission des communications” for the Quebec section of the Liberal Party of Canada in 1986-87, as well as Lieutenant Governor of Quebec from 1997-2007. She was appointed by Jean Chretien.

  2. Another Liberal bites the dust!

“In a July 2014 post, Thomas wrote about the Israel-Palestine conflict, saying, “We were fed the Israeli/British/American version of the conflict our whole lives — ‘the poor Israelis trying to build communes in the desert being attacked by those awful Arabs from all sides.’ ”
She describes meeting some Palestinians who were forced from their olive farms. “The oppressed of the Warsaw ghettos and the concentration camps have become the oppressors, keeping the Palestinians who are left in their ‘homeland’ in ghettos where they limit their access to education and stop most opportunities for them to make a living.”
A July 2013 post reads: “Yes, hundreds of years ago the mosques were used as gathering places for education. Unfortunately, now the mosques are used as brainwashing stations, desecrating those holy places.”
Talk about all over the map, what a confused mess of an “expert”….a LIBERAL.

  3. Re: Niqabs: Last year when I went for my photo ID for my Sask license, and the year before for my Cdn. passport. I argued vehemently that I wear prescription eye glasses when I drive, therefore, I should be allowed to wear them on my photo ID so that if I get stopped on the highway or while crossing the border, the officers will recognize me. The passport photographer and the SGI agent both said NO EYEGLASSES!! So I accepted the fact that rules are rules.
If a woman shows up at a citizenship ceremony with a niqab on her head, how do they know who is under the hood?? Is it really that difficult to show your face?? Why not one rule for everyone??

  4. Kate; Here is a contest suggestion.
Drove through a ‘progressive area’ — you know close to the major University — of one of Canada’s large metropolitan areas a few days ago. Guess what political party had the majority of signs? That’s right, the CBC! There were signs everywhere that declared proudly: “I VOTE CBC”. Well I’m wondering if I can get me one of them to put up on my lawn. I will have to come clean though, I’ll have to add a little line above the main line that admits: “SINCE THE LOBOTOMY, I VOTE CBC”. I noticed a few people commenting on these signs on one of your CBC posts.
Maybe Kate could run a contest where us CBC Haytards can express our discontent.
    CBC LobotoMe

  5. I was told it was because the eyes are the identifying feature now. (That was a year or two ago actually.) I don’t know if they scan the license or how it’s done, but that’s what the clerk told me.

  7. Your moral and intellectual superiors…. because dozens = all full up

Stephen Harper’s mailbox is filling up with messages from Canadians upset about the concept, size, location and cost of a national memorial for victims of communism, newly released correspondence shows.
The prime minister has received dozens of handwritten letters, typewritten notes and emails from people…
A few people backed the project….

  8. They must be expecting him to win another majority. If he does, he can ignore them — as they deserve for their over-the-top and thoughtless response to this.

  11. I thought Nenshi could have helped calm the waters on the issue of niqab. Instead, he helps drive in the political wedge. Too many people are viewing this as an anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim issue. It is not. I suspect that many Muslims are supportive of the range of anti-extremist initiatives being taken by Harper. The left, however, seems to be going nuts over every issue. I think it is the apocalyptic left that is creating most of the problem here. All of the issues (niqab, citizenship, refugees) are things that most Canadians are willing to discuss rationally. I also believe that Harper’s positions on these issues are reasonable and balanced. That is why they have a lot of support.
