The Sound of Settled Science

What is the opposite of diversity?

This article reviews the available evidence and finds support for four claims: (1) Academic psychology once had considerable political diversity, but has lost nearly all of it in the last 50 years. (2) This lack of political diversity can undermine the validity of social psychological science via mechanisms such as the embedding of liberal values into research questions and methods, steering researchers away from important but politically unpalatable research topics, and producing conclusions that mischaracterize liberals and conservatives alike. (3) Increased political diversity would improve social psychological science by reducing the impact of bias mechanisms such as confirmation bias, and by empowering dissenting minorities to improve the quality of the majority's thinking. (4) The underrepresentation of non-liberals in social psychology is most likely due to a combination of self-selection, hostile climate, and discrimination. We close with recommendations for increasing political diversity in social psychology.

The academic culture is dominated by "Fellow Travelers". That term is applied to non-card carrying Communists that champion Marxism.. MSM.... CBC... ETC

The 1960's drug induced freaks that OVER cropped their Grey matter which resulted in decreased IQ during their teen years....They introduced the Drug culture to their own Children....The only problem solving talents that survived involve Game theory & simple "boundary" defined science. They bleat nonsense and are happy.

JMHO

At it's worst, the humanities is Marxist indoctrination, often found flying under the banner of "critical theory".

The strange thing is that they expect taxpayers to fund this. Well, maybe their expectations are not so strange, since that's exactly what we do.

Defund the stupid bastards.

Oh look! A hockey stick! Call Michael Mann! Call Mark Steyn!

The professoriate has crapped in their own swimming pool and now want someone else to clean it up for them. The climate of intolerance and bigotry at post secondary institutions is toxic to critical thinking and objective study. Nice to see an acknowledgement from academia.

In my experience, all groups drift towards a monoculture unless there is a deliberate effort to prevent abusing people who challenge group orthodoxy. It's not just academia. I've seen it in politics/government, bureaucracy, the media, trademen's shops and social media, of course. Even blogs, right?

The problem is that if you believe advancements are due to "ideas having sx" then a monoculture becomes inbred and the ideas are defective, abnormal and even mildly psychotic.

At this point I doubt there is much hope for groups that have passed a certain threshold. Any attempts at diversifying will not only be ineffective tokenism but, more likely, the politically diverse members will be treated like a piƱata by the inbreds. A better solution for science and social science is to pursue and system that formalizes a combative process instead of peer review. You do this by funding scientist and social scientists that oppose the existing monoculture instead of diluting diversity by embedding it in the existing organization.
