Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

“Facts? We don’t need no stinkin’ facts!”
“Mr Butts call your office.”
When Akin goes into the details you can just picture the reaction among the liberal base….which I expect coincided with that sound I heard around 9 am yesterday that sounded like hundreds of head explosions.
Like this detail that blows to pieces a favourite talking point of the opposition parties.
“Department of Veterans Affairs spent $121 million more in FY15 than FY14, an increase of 13.5%.”
But but but that can’t be cause Harper we are told closed a bunch of offices….sarc off.
I think Gerald is updating his resume.
Although Trudeau didn’t bring the matter up, Mr. Akin might also have mentioned that federal health transfers to the provinces also increased by six percent (or three or four times the rate of inflation) in FY2015, which they will also do in FY2016 and FY2017, I believe, before the annual increases drop to less stratospheric levels through FY2028 or 2029. Even then, they’ll be rising at nominal GDP or 3 percent per year, whichever is MORE.
I suppose that all of these expenditure points need to be brought out by the Conservative campaign in order to counteract media and opposition smears (heck, John will be on here in …3…2…1… claiming, broken-record style and in spite of all evidence, that Mr. Harper is a “thug”). Nevertheless, the rate of increase in some of the areas, even under the Conservatives, is breathtaking and uncomfortable.
In light of these considerations, and Mr. Akins’s analysis, Canadians really ought to be able to get a picture of how unprepared and how unserious the opposition parties are about running the Government of Canada.
As for Mr. Trudeau, he should really not be running at all: if his party had any respect for him or itself, it would not have allowed him to be left in the position he was yesterday, or put in the position of being its leader in the first place.
The Liberal Left won’t care about Turdeau’s lie’s and deceit’s – for them it’s “Justifiable”, the ends justifying the means.
Ever deal with a leftist troll on SDA? Same mentally ill crap here, no proof, evidence, truth, or facts will sway them from our spiral into a third world existence.
Some War Room.
Whoever thought it a good idea to drag out Chrétien from the political morgue to “help” Justin was smoking crack.
I’d like to agree with Dave Akin that allowing the Empty hair-do to attack the CPC fiscal record is perilous at best and that this was a “gotcha” moment where the press could back bouffant-boy up against the wall as being a fiscal dummy – but it won’t mean anything –
First, the LPC fartcatcher media will downplay and bury the story and second, the Truedough groupies are not making political choices based in fiscal or governmental capabilities/realities – for them it is a big popularity contest where we get to vote the ugly people off the island, and they have the “cutest” candidate.
Canada has become a zombie voter nation and the MSM has lead us there.
The CBC spin-doctors are on this already.
“Surplus during recession seems like bad economic planning”.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/analysis-of-government-s-announced-budget-surplus-1.3227370
If you check the deficits they have shown a steady decline from their highs of $55 billion in 2009 to a balanced budget today.
Oh, and BTW: If the CPC message of stability, accomplishment and responsibility is not getting out, it’s as much the CPC war rooms fault as it is the biased media.
Trudeau attacking Harper on economics is as ill-advised as Harper attacking Trudeau on how to tame unmanageable hair. “Oh no, Bre’r fox, doen you trow me in-tah dat dere briah patch…”
This week’s debate is supposed to be about the economy. On stage will be an economist, a lawyer, and a substitute teacher.
Imagine the job of Trudeau’s handlers to try to prepare him for this one.
Canada has become a zombie voter nation and the MSM has lead us there.
And…
If the CPC message of stability, accomplishment and responsibility is not getting out,it’s as much the CPC war rooms fault as it is the biased media.
Nailed it. Nailed it. Conservatives have failed miserably in the attack mode.
Canada.
The only place that it takes longer to get a pipeline approved then it takes to build one
Since 2009 The Harper government has added 150 BILLION to the federal debt!! We may now be in “balance” however this budget has avoided any plans to pay down Canada’s $616 billion federal debt!! In fact, this debt, despite the surplus, is still slightly increasing.
It is my firm belief that this “debt” is what is driving down the value of our currency making the wealth and assets that Canadians produce very attractive to buy for foreign buyers.
Not to mention driving the cost of imports through the roof!! Running some of us out of business.
Trudeau is pulling a George Costanza. He does the opposite of what he should while thinking his bad boy moves will impress. Otherwise, he is a dumb as Kramer. Wait …. his dumber than Kramer … in fact he is about as goofy as Margaret was when she was he age.
Jamie and Occam, I respect your points but believe you are being a little harsh.
Harper is leading a federal Conservative majority government into an election at a time when Conservatism is under attack across the western world. Despite fighting non-stop negative spin from a hostile media, they must also fight through this gauntlet to get any kind of positive message out. Then there’s social media, still a relatively new and evolving medium for all parties to figure out, but it is already a game changer for some candidates. Having monitored the CBC these past weeks, I’m quite surprised the CPC are polling as well as they are.
Compared to Justin’s handlers, the PM’s look like absolute pros to me. Keeping in mind how difficult it must be to get a strong-willed individual like Harper to concede to other’s directives. Also, and this is strictly a personal belief, Harper has helped set this tone over his reign as PM by failing to be an enthusiastic promoter of conservatism.
Corcoran has a good line on Justin:
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau also struggled to confuse the issues and himself. Harper, he said, worked so hard to balance the budget last year that he created a surplus that hurt the economy so much Ottawa is now heading into a deficit for 2015-16, which is exactly the policy a Trudeau government intends to follow because “the fiscal deficit isn’t the one that concerns Canadians, and certainly doesn’t concern economists all that much.”
We’re halfway through the election. Most people including myself have barely been paying attention because summer. Now that screwl is back in session what we’re seeing is the polls shift in our favour. Coincidence? You decide. In the meantime go and volunteer for your local candidate and bring this one home. Yesterday was a turning point. Seize it.
“It is my firm belief that this “debt” is what is driving down the value of our currency”
Wrong. Our debt is small compared to the U.S. debt. I am convinced what is driving down our dollar is the wish to have a low dollar like everyone else. I suspect our money supply has increased more than the U.S. with its quantitative easing. The piper to be paid at a later date will be inflation.
Aikin has a good piece, (to bad it came with a not his fault Trudeau pre apology)
Interestingly John Ivison, who never left his socialist roots behind when he left Scotland, sees fit to print this little lie in the middle of his sneering article at the NP.
“Justin Trudeau, the Liberal leader, was less impressed by the news. He said Harper had worked hard to balance the budget by cutting program spending for veterans, seniors, First Nations and refugees.
“It was a political goal that helped us slide into recession,” he said.”
Simply reprints a false accusation, that many readers will take as fact.
Now Aikin has fairly elaborately laid out that only a fool could have missed the fact that Trudeaus claims were false.
So my question would be is Ivison a fool or a liar?
Harper did not balance the budget. The budget balanced itself.
Ward, everyone knows that the NP do not hire fools!
Everyone knows that Harper isn’t spending enough to get this economy going. That’s why I am promising to outspend the liberal. A lib-dipper coalition government will double spending while balancing the budget. Just look at my smile. You know it’s true.
Right on TomASS!!!:-))
You are right, but they have been giving more front page prominence to leftists like Ivison, Den Tandt, and Coyne in their first section, while having the conservative writers like Foster, Fisher, Corcoran, Black, and Rex Murphy further back where only news junkies go.
Occam and Steve, exactly, MSM will either ignore this Liberal failure or spin this surplus against PM Harper.
Yes!….
David Akin is doing a great job….but he should not be counted on for the rebuttal that the CPC should be doing!
I agree. And our goverment helped by licking some of it in the way of debt. I question the patriotism of goverment that exposes canadian wealth to foreign buyers. It happened big time under “lieberal” rule. Disappointing to see this low $ policy continue under Harper. I know he knows better.
“Jamie and Occam, I respect your points but believe you are being a little harsh. ”
Harper & Co. absolutely missed their opportunity to eviscerate the NDP and spank the media over the “dead kid and family died because of Canada” story. Mike Harris knew how to make the media work for him, so did Levesque, so did (and I hate to give him any credit)turdo la first.
I refuse to believe anyone gives a damn about that story other than the media elite. Seriously, no one is going to vote dipper because of that crap. No one. No one will even remember that story by next week.
The war room didn’t fail Trudeau. Trudeau in his infantile wisdom failed the war room.
Canadian Observer replied to comment from Jamie MacMaster/Occam @10:32 AM
“Jamie and Occam, I respect your points but believe you are being a little harsh.”
I don’t think so – the future of getting the conservative (it’s no longer conservative but pro=liberty, anti-statist control freak) message out depends in dominating new or neglected media – AM/SW/Sat channels/cable news/Streaming/Podcasts/e-book publishers/e-zines/ – ALL conservatives partisan or not should invest in and support new/alternate media conservative messaging – so far only an handful of libertarian/conservative podcasts and streams exist in Canada and the Rebel media should be much larger with more impact than dino media – but the conservatives were slow on the draw to embrace alternative media as the only way to get to the zombie hordes hypnotized by MSM BS.
It’s not party thing, it’s a movement thing – non left people are not activists and they should be wider and more deeply entrenched in alternative media
Yeah but Justin has better hair than Peter Mansbridge should have.
Oh shut up commie.
Your revisionism is transparent, I’m tired of the same nonsense spewed by other shallow thinkers, who refuse to mention the Commie Troika that forced Canada into massive borrowing in 2008, or else they would have a junta to take over a duly elected government.
Spare us the inane bovine byproduct.
By the way, PMSH and the CPC were elected to a MAJORITY, AFTER the troika’s failed coup attempt. Sucks to be you!
“Ward, everyone knows that the NP do not hire fools!”
Ummm, Tabs Southey. Take that!
A leader can be given advice but before that leader spouts off about it he needs to do the research into it.
Trudeau isn’t swift enough to do that, he simply hasn’t got the smarts or knowledge to elaborate on any of the issues important for anyone who aspires to lead the country. He should get hammered in any debate but we know he’ll be fitted with protective armor by the media and the moderators.
At this point he still sounds like a high school preppy, very shaky.
The facts dont interest the news media reptiles or the politicians and United Nations all they want is wealth and power their all more crooked then a bolt of lightning and corupt to their cores
