  1. I don’t know about the White Rock riding but, in this part of Canada, children in a home where the parents smoke pot have a very real risk of harm due to the arrival of police and child protective services to remove the children at gunpoint.

  6. Why have I heard quite the opposite – pot brain damages kids. My experience with pot-heads is that they are really stupid. I haven’t seen marijuana in a social setting in 40 years but I run with a pretty twisted crew – all self employed and reasonably well educated and all vote Conservative.

  16. Since vaping pot is the future, second-hand smoke and smoking will soon no longer be an issue. Anyone suggesting though that smoking weed is A-OK during a pregnancy is unfit for office, IMO.
    HOWEVER, amidst all the misinformation about marijuana, the one thing I thought was undeniable was that it was harmful to young, developing brains. All the more reason to legalize it and control quality and sales to juveniles. You know, like society has learned to do with alcohol.
    The hypocrisy of course being that alcohol is a proven deadly and highly addictive drug, horribly destructive to our society, yet still legal and even worshipped in popular culture. Truly stunning when you take the time to analyze it. Now, thanks to archaic drug policies, pot is far easier to get for most kids than alcohol. If you choose not to believe me, then ask any teenager.
    This topic is especially searing for me since, exactly 3 nights ago, my hardcore alcoholic neighbor was removed from her suite by the coroner after a 2 week Vodka binge. The provincial government was her dealer. Sure….. it’s pot that is our greatest threat! The pot!

  19. With all the hype and paranoia over so-called “second-hand smoke”, how do you think this idea is going to fly? Now the health zealots are dreaming up new and creative ways to control e-cigarettes which are infinitely less dangerous than smoking tobacco or dope, both of which require combustion. It’s the height of irony that the lefties, who started and are prolonging the war on smoking now either promote or look the other way when it comes to smoking marijuana. Unfortunately “hypocrisy” is not in the lefty dictionary.

    On smoking ANYTHING Around young children – Just Plain Stupid.
    Advocating either or both is pretty much criminal….
    However….On smoking pOt per se…I don’t see an issue and in fact have always advocated Full On Legalization and be done with it…for numerous reasons. Not least of which is the amount of tax dollar “fighting” and enforcing Marijuana laws, the obvious medical benefits of Canibinols and the fact that I do not want nor require a Government to hold my hand throughout my entire life. If I as a legal Adult (over 21), wish to consume a hash cookie/brownie or smoke a doob…then that is my concern and no one else’s notwithstanding my comments above.
    But regardless of all of that, Justin’s “promise” is nothing more than that…a carrot hung out to catch the 20-30 somethings who believe this is a major issue facing the country – one that outshines others. Should Shiny Pony win, he will continue to promise…but in fact, do nothing of the kind.

  23. It always boils down to JT justifying himself and dismissing his own “crack-baby” birth.
    The fact is I would support these people poisoning themselves 100%, providing:
    A) I don’t have to pay for any fallout due to increased drug crime & medical conditions via “free” Health Care.
    B) Castle Laws and Conceal Carry Laws are written into Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
    C) Employers have FULL discretionary rights to fire or not employ anyone found with drugs in their system. Regardless of drug legality.
    D) Landlords and Business have full support of the law to evict persons using drugs on their premises.
    E) Citizens have full rights to treat persons blowing pot in their faces as an assault with a weapon, and the legal ability deal with it accordingly.
    F) Selling drugs to a minor is treated as harshly as pedophilia.
    It’s very simple really, we can then all be free to do what we like.

  25. I guess the childrens’ IQs are higher when parents smoke pot in the same way that ALL libruls are higher than conservatives’ IQs. If they FEEL smarter, then they must be smarter. Critically thinking conservatives often do not understand the illogical librul specious thinking behind the librul arguments. Libruls ad lib facts to back their arguments. Conservatives demonstrate their facts. If the conservatives don’t understand than they MUST be dumber than libruls.
    I worked with an evangelical who told me that if I didn’t understand his religious arguments then he needed to explain them better, or I was just too ignorant to understand him. He had a degree from the USAFI in “nuclear engineering” and held 50 jobs in three years. I suppose nobody understood him. He told me that I needed to get on my KNEES AND SAY amen. I told him that when I was in the Army, I did that every payday. I got on my knees and said “ahm in.”

  29. There have been stories recently about very young children with severe and continual brain seizures being successfully treated with cannabis, and the parents needing to administer same (illegally) in liquid form although apparently if the kids could smoke it, that would be OK (and legal).
    My point is, if cannabis can stop brain seizures, it must be having an effect on normal brains. Can this be a good thing?

  33. With some possible medical exceptions, only an idiot smokes pot or cigarettes during a pregnancy.
    I also think marijuana is extremely harmful in the hands of kids, along with cigarettes and alcohol. None of those drugs do great benefit to adults either, as they seek their small escape. Choose your opiate folks!
    Don’t legalize it. Big mistake. Decriminalize it by all means, which effectively has already happened.
    If it’s legalized it’s taxed. That’s bad for economic and law enforcement reasons.
    It it’s taxed the government has withdrawn money from the economy. The money earned in the ilicit marijuana trade doesn’t simply disappear into pixie dust because it’s not legal; it’s spent locally. No it’s not true only bikers and organized crime sell marijuana.
    More importantly, if government were put in charge of marijuana distribution they would find a way to lose money at it. Bet on it. The tax they put on would probably make it uncompetitive anyway.
    As for law enforcement, how does legalizing it keep it out of the hands of kids? If adults can suddenly purchase it on the legal market, and given the illicit market was suppressed (if even possible), where do at least some of the drug dealers then turn? To the kids if they’re not already there. Will legalizing it reduce the supply; probably not.
    Unless you treat marijuana dealers and growers as if they were selling PCP, indeed with stiffer even sentences, the marijuana trade would bleed off into what’s left of the adult ilicit trade with the rest migrating to the underage market. Are advocates of legalization agreeable to that?
    No they’re not; leave it alone.

  35. Every pot head I’ve ever worked with swore up and down that pot had less impact than alcohol, yet I’ve known every pot head was a pot head before they ever told me, but never knew some chronic alcoholics had a drinking problem.

  37. Interesting story about the use of THC to stop brain seizures. It would be helpful if more actual science was done to confirm benefits. “Medical” marijuana could actually then become medical marijuana.

  38. I encourage all liberals,greens,and NDP’ers, before they embark on their journey to the polls this Fall, to sit down and smoke a joint first,so they can really think hard about who they’re going to vote for.
    There IS a choice, friends, to defeat the most evil PM the world has ever seen, you can vote NDP, Green, or,sigh,Justin- Liberal, but before you make that choice,a little bit of the weed will help.
    Maybe put on some relaxing hate-rap, smoke up, then maybe smoke another one, with a little wine to soothe the throat,if the girlfriend is available,maybe some sex,then smoke another one,and then…. no sense bothering to go out and vote when you’re feeling mellow,that Harper guy doesn’t stand a chance anyway and all the other people will kick his ass out anyway,and it’s a long,tedious bus or bike ride to the polling station, and if you don’t get out today,there’s always tomorrow.

    I hear your anguish and feel your deep remorse at watching the most free and civilly evolved society since Athens destroyed from within by decadent insanity. PC is to free/reasoning societies as cancer is to the human body.
    We all see it, we see the self-destructive ideals take root and become self-destructive mob movements – driven by malevolent manipulators and supported by the zombie hordes detached from reality and reason. Weak and stupid people are prey for every predatory form of manipulation.
    At this point I have resolved myself to the fact that the predictable social/civil/economic collapse must happen – it is the inevitable output of a democracy manipulated by bad ideas thrust on stupid people – its social Darwinism – strong societies survive and weak/stupid societies are replaced by the stronger more intelligent societies, natural selection for societies and cultures.
    The collapse will be harsh for the week, the foolish, the dependant, the unprepared – but it will cleanse society of the stupid self-destructive aholes who precipitated/aided the collapse.
    All the foresighted, productive, trenchant, prepared and organized will gravitate together in self-sustaining mutualist communities to survive the collapse in an ideological/moral/productive enclave. They will let it run its course, survive it, and come out the other side of it as a dominant social force.
    This is a social/cultural pattern repeated for eons of human history – collapse happened the earth’s greatest civilizations, and now it’s happening to ours. Unlike the dewy-eyed utopians who think they are immune from these natural cycles of societies, most critically thinking people see the unmistakeable parallels with the fall of Roman culture/empire. We must resign ourselves to the fact our century’s old experiment in personal freedom, enlightened civility and constitutional democracy has long been in decline and is now virtually unsalvageable because we allowed generational ideological and intellectual decay to take root and adopt elf- destructive ideologies.
    It’s all over but the invasion of the barbaric hordes sacking the capital (unrestricted migration will accomplish that) – like Rome’s despoilers, they will leave after they drink all the wine because they are too unevolved to create another Rome or recreate its genius and organization – Like Old Rome, it’s genius and productivity survived to create the Byzantine/Holy Roman empire which lasted until the current era – it will reoccur again, act accordingly.

  43. Strange how inhaling smoke of any kind is bad for your health… unless it’s smoke from burning hashish. Then it’s completely harmless and potentially even good for mankind, the environment, intergalactic relations, righting the wrongs of history, etc.
