Pollspotting!

Should Prime Minister Stephen Harper demand the release of jailed Canadian [Al-Jazeera] journalist Mohamed Fahmy?
Maybe we could start a fund for his mineral water.
Update: That didn’t take long. One hour in, and the “no” side has reversed a significant deficit and pulled into the lead!

  1. CTV item: “In a tweet Saturday, Harper said that ‘Canada continues to call on Egypt for the immediate and full release of Mr. Fahmy, and full co-operation to facilitate his return home.'”
Winnipeg Free Press poll: “Should Prime Minister Stephen Harper demand the release of jailed Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy?”
Am I missing something here? Since it would appear the PM has made it clear Fahmy should be released, what exactly is the point of the poll?

  2. Yes, why did he get such a short sentence.
Al Jazeera reporters are cheerleaders for terrorism.

  3. Can i get some context? Was thisguy convicted for terrorism? or like what did he do? I’m not sure why he is being held?
I mean he is obviously a muslim but was he just reporting news? or causing trouble?
Just a question please excuse my ignorance on this.

  4. Oh, what the hell. Bring him back to Canada if for no other reason than to get Mulcair and Trudeau to stfu. If Mr. Harper does not personally intervene, the opposition and the media will wail and gnash their teeth incessantly. Come to think of it, if PMSH enlisted Chuck Norris and they were both parachuted secretly into Egypt and pulled off a rescue, the usual culprits would moan that Harper didn’t use his own funds to finance the venture.
On the bright side, if Fahmy is not released, that useless moron can add another verse to his Harperman ditty.

  5. Next question: when Mr.Fahmy is released and comes back to Canada, should the government award him: A: $5 million, B: $10 million, C: $15 million, D: all of the above.

  6. You don’t get it JJM. For the Media Party in Canada, any time one of their own is in a foreign jail anything the Conservative government does is never enough.
I for one am tired of the whining that goes on every time this happens. In many of these cases the people imprisoned knew what they were getting themselves into.

  7. “Canadian journalist”?
Which Canadian media has he ever worked for?
He is a Canadian citizen, but Al-Jazeera is definitely not a Canadian media.
How many of his 41 years has he spent in Canada?
Has CISIS determined whether he is or was a supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood?
Originally, Egyptian then of a dual Egyptian-Canadian citizenship, he has given up his Egyptian citizenship. Which means we’ll be stuck with him.
Few, if any countries will allow him to travel there, given his conviction.
A Muslim Brotherhood front group was found to be raising money in Canada for terrorist groups by Rev. Canada.
It was not so long ago that Liberal Prime Minister lobbied the government of Pakistan, who had arrested him on terrorism charges, to release Ahmad Kadr. He was a major fundraiser for and high ranking member of Al-Quaida, and a close associate of Osama Bin Laden. He also had two sons trained and who fought for Al-Quaida.
The MSM is silent on that bit of Liberal Party history.
Al-Jazeera had many journalists quit in protest over it’s biased coverage of the Muslim Brotherhood. It would seem Mohamed Fahmy was not among them.
The MSM never raises that as a question either
What is frightening in Canada is how much the Canadian MSM use the M.B. as source or reference on Islamist jihad aggression in the Middle-East, world wide and Canada.
Mohamed. Fahmy will return to Canada sooner or later.
C.I.S.I.S. has to monitor and investigate the Muslim Brotherhood on an ongoing basis as part of their mandate.
His lawyer wants Canada to support her client to support him being transferred to Canada. That is one thing and as his lawyer understandable.
However, her demand that Canada ask Egypt’s government to pardon him.
That is a far more complicated. Given the civil war with Islamist terrorists going on in Egypt, it would be impossible for the Canadian government C.I.S.I.S. to even thoroughly investigate the case.
Thus how could they determine if he is innocent or guilty under Egyptian law.
The current coalition government of President Sisi is anti-Islamist.
Thus an ally against international Islamist terrorism.
This is a much more complicated issue than the MSM coverage indicates.

  8. “Next question: when Mr.Fahmy is released and comes back to Canada, should the government award him: A: $5 million, B: $10 million, C: $15 million, D: all of the above.”
Perhaps the PM’s chief of staff could just quietly cut him a personal cheque for $90,000.
Then the media could segue smoothly into its next trumped-up anti-Harper scandal.

  9. Stay out of shitholes.
There now, that was concise, to the point, and NO doe-eyed furry animals were injured by this announcement.
Now I am all full of selfrighteous pride…… feeling dangerous.

  10. Don’t laugh, he’ll probably claim some sort of mistreatment and sue us for a few million, at that point he should have his citizenship revoked.

  11. I’m with you on this, biffjr. Tell you why. If there had been one shred of evidence that he had in any way been an agent of the brotherhood as originally charged, he never would have got this interim release. As much as I hate Al Jazeera, and as much as I distrust dual citizenship holders, I say Fahmy has to be given the benefit of the doubt on this one. These latest charges and convictions are nothing but face-saving trumped up charges.
As for Harper personally intervening, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised that this has already been done via diplomatic channels.

  12. I may be very cynical here but I am not sure of screaming for the release of Mohamed and demanding Harper does more is a good PR for the those douches.

  13. I watched this arrogant prick being interviewed and he was indignant that Harper did not personally come visit him and lead him back to Canada. He wanted to move to Vancouver. Thank God he is being delayed.

  14. He was helping the Muslim Brotherhood. That should get a lifetime ban from ever returning. However, the media party is always pointing out how Farsi of the Muslim Brotherhood was democratically elected. They seem oblivious to the fact that Adolph Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers’ Party was also democratically elected.

  15. They don’t just advocate on the behalf of Canadian journalists but those from other countries as well… except those who are jailed in Cuban prisons. They’re counter-revolutionaries apparently and so I guess in the minds of leftist journalists they should be locked up.

  16. What a media circus.George Cloonys muslim wife as his lawyer?.ET reporters at trial, where was Kim Kardashian.Meanwhile Christiasns continue to be raped beheaded killed by the isis scum and not a peep, but a journalist is in jail whoa hold the presses.

  17. Fahmy is just one more muslim using a Canadian passport. He and many like him are citizens of convenience. We do not need them nor should we support them.

  18. What Robert said. The man was born in Egypt as far as I remember, lived here just long enough to get his citizenship then away he went. Despite his renunciation of his Egyptian citizenship, which was nothing but a naked ploy to force the Canadian government to save his arse (he stood in the courtroom waving an Egyptian flag after he did so, I think), it seems the Egyptian legal system still considers him Egyptian.
I’m not shedding any crocodile tears for him, or any other Canadian of convenience.
