Blog Notes

FYI, I’m sick. For a time I suspected the Black Death, but since have downgraded that to consumption. Blogging may continue to be spotty for the next couple of days.

  1. By your description – likely an phlegmatic affliction, yet not of the catarrh. I recommend purgatives and leaches.
    Get well soon.

  2. Leeches are for wusses – serious blood letting is in order.
    Get better soon!

  3. Hmm,
Black Death transmitted by flea bites and apparently it is found in low levels in animals in the southwestern U.S. So been there recently 😉 ?
So as the prognosis isn’t great I hope you’ve had that checked.
Consumption on the other hand its prognosis is not a lot better and its also pretty grim to suffer from and my understanding is that mixing in communities that have a high level of new immigrants from third and fourth world countries living in crowded and close proximity to one another is probably a source of infection ….. Been anywhere like that recently ?
See that place to the south of you ……
Probably best to stay away from there, helps with sanity as well.
OR perhaps its just a bit of man flu, in which case you’ll be fine … according to all the women I’ve ever known its basically all made up in your head.
    Either way
Get well soon and use the excuse to have some R&R.

  4. Sorry to hear that. Don’t worry about the blogging, just focus on getting well again. My best wishes for a speedy return to full health.

  7. No, it’s clearly the Blaahcckk Defff, pronounced as per a Monty Python skit… Yes, purgatives and leeches are highly recommended, along with inhaling sulphurous snuff and frequent imbibing of a good dollop of laudanum…!!! I read about this plague in the “library” of Isengard, in an unfinished dusty tome written by an sorcerer who’d evidently caught it…
    Hope you’ll recover soon!!!

  8. Yes, Yersinia pests is endemic in the southwestern US, and kills a few people every year. It is curable if caught early enough.
Anyway, may you recover quickly and completely

  9. Black death ? Today “experts” state you can only get that from the police. Hope you get well soon. If nothing seems to work, just get thoroughly plastered. A good hangover will make all other problems seem small.

  10. Apparently, the Black Death symptoms were just from puking up Pepto Bismol tablets. So, sticking with consumption.

  11. Comment from ‘Abe’ cheered me up.
Never has science been assailed by more ignorant wannabes than in the case of the Climateers.
People who determine they are going to be climate experts don’t care what the field is, they’re smarter than the people who make their livings IN the energy fields, in everything from basic instincts on to the measurement of anything and everything.
Take the case of their loopy claim the atmosphere is growing ever warmer. This a description of the largest contiguous mass of warmer and warmer air, ever conceived.
Every single metric – of every single science – that depends on the temperature of air,
would be screaming the numbers. EVERY single STATISTICIAN in the W.O.R.K.I.N.G. FIELDS, would be
coming forward with their OWN claim backed with PROOF through LOGS of the EFFECT of the air being WARMER.
Aircraft FUEL sales number crunchers would note that identical, long term legacy aircraft, were requiring ever more fuel each year to make the same runs because the air was warmer hence LESS LIFT.
People who designed airports would be noticing that the SAFEST AIRPORTS had in common that their landing and takeoff strips grew over time independently of the size aircraft when corrected for the size vehicles coming and going.
The infrared light in the atmosphere at night claimed creating the warming is the same class light as about that, coming from your television remote.
If the actual amount of infrared light from the earth was growing, the simple, inexpensive testers would be ubiquitous. They’d be sold for i-phones and people would have their phones and computers logging the nightly infrared light levels.
The inrared astronomy field would bring out it’s filters for every telescope anyone cared about so the amount of nightly infrared could be duly logged as a duty to civilization.
Everybody who took an astronomy course would be getting the lectures in infrared astronomy about how the amount rose decade by decade, and there would be test questions on it.
The fundamental nature of earth frequency light given off at night is the limiting factor in the foundations of earth based optical astronomy.
Every major telescope has a staff who record the viewing conditions on the night they’re present, so people needing to reserve time for the scope can reserve it at a time of year, month, etc… that benefits their particular discipline in observational analysis – amateur astronomers keep records in individual locations for decades on end.
One of the main factors limiting optical astronomy’s magnification levels have to do with earth frequency light warming the air that contacts the surface causing scintillation – the wobbling effect of light as heated air rises at night. This is the twinkling of the stars and it MUST GROW if the ATMOSPHERE WARMS
and therefore there MUST be a detailed record of there being ever more nights when viewing is more difficult because the air is more turbulent
due to the air being overall, warmer.
This is not negotiable. It’s not perhaps, there are science after science which would be having their professionals, their writers, their students, professors – these people would be finding the evidence
EVERYWHERE if the earth’ atmosphere were growing warmer.
Today, most large scopes either have or are considering fitting lightweight and relatively, inexpensive, directional mirror flexing or vibrating devices to remove most or even ALL the effects of SCINTILLATION –
they’ve been around since the 1980s.
And yet not ONE HUMAN BEING associated with CALIBRATING those and REVIEWING the
*computerized logs of their actions* has come forward saying “Look! There’s the mandated ever-rising turbulence of the atmosphere due to it’s being overall, warmer over the decades since the 80s!”
    Nothing.
    Not a sound.
And you find the people claiming they’re intelligent about climate and energy, trying to pass things by, that nobody in a professional’s journal on aerospace engineering or electronic engineering in radio or flight controls would do.
You would be laughed off the authors’ lists and told never to return ! And yet the one thing you DO find CONSTANTLY in the climate field is
self professing experts who never actually worked in the energy or serious, engineering fields; where every nuance of energy in the atmosphere or in solid/liquid state matter is simply known because the rules are so inflexible.
There’s no such thing as a global atmosphere that grew ever warmer for decades that doesn’t have the fingerprint all over the logging of every science associated with the temperature of the air.
It would be all over the data from every field from aircraft to sailing to satellite and radio communications to
    you name it.
People wouldn’t be able to HIDE from the effects not in a field or TWO but in ALL of them – and their experiences would cross correlate. If one part of the world’s atmosphere was warming faster, EVERY SCIENTIFIC FIELD in that part of the atmosphere would be reporting EVERY INSTRUMENT or METRIC they HAD was ALL showing SIMILAR conditions.
So when someone tells me they’re an ‘expert in climate’ the FIRST thing I do is ask them how many years they actively worked in the atmospheric energy or atmospheric physics fields.
People who have worked and measured where entire systems’ continued existence were on the line know how to measure
and know how to tell if someone is lying about their interpretation of physical measurements. It’s just that simple. Theoreticians simply have no idea where the lines on the road are that mark reality and can’t be told, they’ve driven over those lines and are now off in the corn field rather than the
    atmospheric energy field.

  12. Not dead yet,eh?
May you be buried under a one hundred year old tamarack, which I shall plant tomorrow.

  13. All the “observation” of the Climate is “not” the Science. Even if the climate warmed it does not prove AGW…It does not explain WHY.
The Science of any theory is the WHY and HOW… we control the climate… That is what needs to be explained & proven

  14. Sorry to hear that Kate. Try Gravol and a few shots of good whiskey. If that doesn’t fix you up, maybe the ER might be handy. Or you just have a really nasty chest cold. Hope the latter. My better half is in with pneumonia right now. Who said it was a cold weather sickness? Get well soon.

  15. I wish PM Harper would talk more about the bright future Canadians could have before us. Reagan used to talk like that and he was much older than Harper!
Watched a 2013 sci fiction film starring Tom Cruise called Oblivion and I was struck by the beautiful futuristic designs of the dwellings, computers and aircraft. I was also amazed by the ingenuity and hard work of the team that put the film together.
We forget what mankind is capable of when we look at mediocrity and pettiness all the time.

  16. I’ve heard of several “leaches”. Archie,Reggie, and Jamie, but never knew any of them could cure a sickly sort.
Probably ebola. Don’t worry,it’s not serious.

  17. Fracturing your pelvis last year must have taken a few rounds out of you, Kate.
Rest up, you ain’t a puppy anymore, get well. My thoughts are with you.

  18. I am not a Doctor, so I’ll just repeat what Alain said which reflects my thoughts:
Sorry to hear that. Don’t worry about the blogging, just focus on getting well again. My best wishes for a speedy return to full health.

  19. When I was a kid in the 50’s, ”consumption” was a word used to describe tuberculosis that struck many people of my parent’s generation. The victims were sent to Fort San near Echo Lake, Sk. One of the treatments the victims received was being wrapped in a couple of woolen blankets and taken outside in sub zero weather to breathe fresh air. In the mid 50’s, anti viral drugs cured the condition. My aunt survived the ordeal, smoked a pack of Players a day and lived to be 85.
When we were teens and tried to lift something heavy with no avail, (Ie: A 45 imp. gallon drum of gas into the back of a pickup,) my Dad would say, ”I’ve seen mosquitoes that were struck with consumption that could lift more than you guys.” As we got older, we learned it was a balancing act.

  20. Gee Kate, I hope you don’t die!
But if you do, I was just watching an episode of Family Guy where Brian was hit by a truck. Stewie used his Time Machine to go back in time before the incident and alter the space-time continuum prior to the event and bring him back.
Lance seems like a bright guy, maybe even as good as Stewie! I suggest you get the slackard working on this Just in Case!
After all, where would we be without SDA!

  22. Or, perhaps, baseball. Which is pretty much the cure-all, in my neck of the woods.
May I be of assistance, at all?
Kate, please get well soon, as we have your “Che” moment coming up!

  23. The only cure for ‘consumption’ is to consume more.
    It is ‘reverse homeopathy’.
It is based on ancient native medicine.
The people in my neighbourhood swear by it.
I hear them almost every morning.

  24. Best wishes for a speed recovery. As we stagger toward October 19th, we need you more than ever.

  25. Well Kate, sorry to hear that. Get better soon and make sure Lance helps as much as possible.
Don’t listen to all the quacks above. Bulls milk will cure your ailment.

  26. Trump is right IMHO, Congress can simply enforce prior SCOTUS rulings. Section 5, also known as the Enforcement Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, enables Congress to pass laws enforcing the amendment’s other provision
The 14th amendment: SCOTUS has “NEVER” ruled that Illegal Aliens Anchor Babies (tether Babies) are USA Citizens. They have ruled that babies born to Alien Nations (US Indians) are not US Citizens
The “Indian tribes, being within the territorial limits of the United States, were not, strictly speaking, foreign states”; but “they were alien nations, distinct political communities”, with whom the United States dealt with through treaties and acts of Congress.[2] The members of those tribes owed immediate allegiance to their several tribes, and were not part of the people of the United States.[3]
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elk_v._Wilkins
(The Fourteenth Amendment already defined as citizens any person born in the U.S., but only if “subject to the jurisdiction thereof”; this latter clause excluded anyone who already had citizenship in a foreign power such as a tribal nation
Most interesting history of American Indians that did not meet the 14th definition of Citizenship, but “before” & after the 1924 Indian Act they had lost their “Distinct Political Communities” and Sovereignty. They then passed the 14th amendment citizen requirement
“Although some white citizen groups were supportive of Indian citizenship, Indians themselves were mixed in the debate. Those that supported it considered the Act a way to secure a long-standing political identity. Those that rejected it were worried about tribal sovereignty and citizenship. Many leaders in the Native American community at the time, like Charles Santee, a Santee Sioux, was interested in Native American integration into the larger society, but was adamant about preserving the Native American identity. Many were also reluctant to trust the government that had taken their land and discriminated so violently against them.[1]”

The Chinese parents of Won Kim had US Legal immigration documents that allowed residence … Wong was subject to the jurisdiction thereof the USA and won Citizenship.

  27. Sorry to hear of your pestilence, you’ve obviously been misdiagnosed hanging around too many dead rodents!
    Treatment
People with the plague need immediate treatment. If treatment is not received within 24 hours of when the first symptoms occur, death may occur.
Antibiotics such as streptomycin, gentamicin, doxycycline, or ciprofloxacin are used to treat plague. Oxygen, intravenous fluids, and respiratory support usually are also needed.
Patients with pneumonic plague should be strictly isolated from caregivers and other patients. People who have had contact with anyone infected by pneumonic plague should be watched carefully and given antibiotics as a preventive measure.
    (Prognosis)
Without treatment, about 50% of people with bubonic plague die. Almost all people with pneumonic plague die if not treated. Treatment reduces the death rate to 50%.
When to Contact a Medical Professional
Call your health care provider if you develop plague symptoms after exposure to fleas or rodents, especially if you live in or have visited an area where plague occurs.
Rat control and watching for the disease in the wild rodent population are the main measures used to control the risk of epidemics. A vaccination is available for high-risk workers, but its effectiveness is not clearly established.
Obviously Kate is at high risk; running around with Small Dead Animals and such.
See your physician immediately and don’t get sick in Canada eh!

  28. As Marilla Cuthbert advised ANNE, OF “GREEN GABLES”, KATE
“DO NOT TURN YOUR BACK ON GOD”….
    I AM
JOE MOLNAR and I do WISH YOU ALL THE BEST, KATE!

  29. Hope you feel better Kate. Some advice passed down from my father. If your stool is black you may have internal bleeding in your organs and should see a doctor. If your stool is white you may have seen a ghost.

  30. I agree with most of the above: get well, all else can be enjoyed or worried about once you’re better. And remember to have lots of rum-and-lemon’s so that you get your sleeping medicine (rum) and don’t run the risk of getting scurvy.

  31. OK, we’ll give you a sick day. Just don’t let the dog eat your blog.
    Get well soon.
