This is what you get with the public school monopolies. In my neck of the woods, students are supposed to be able to move beyond this type of reading no later than the third grade.
*they’re
“*they’re”
Heh, was going to mention it as well.
I’m not sure what the excitement is about, what did everyone think when Obamba mentioned that he needed a million man civilian army, just as well armed and as well equipped as the military?
Dictators having a disposable mob of “youth” at their disposal do not care if they’re educated only indoctrinated. In fact education is counterproductive to the goal.
Too early in the morning for irony.
Too busy these days teaching them to be tree huggers and the United Nations is good and not about history of america(Real History)in fact some brain-dead monkey turd said about Chattanooga that america had it coming Typiccal collage age stupid-head from U.C. Berkeley
When I was young, the people that couldn’t learn disappeared from school not long after their 15th birthday. They became productive members of society, in my community working on their father’s farm. Nowadays the retards graduate from grade 12. Since they don’t make people any smarter, something has to give. What gives is expectations. Grade 3 abilities satisfy grade 12 expectations.
The worst part is, they probably were reading at grade level .
Or one should axe them if thay prolly wur reading @grade level
I’m just starting to realize that my high school diploma from the 70’s is about the equivalent of a college education today. Too many kids are not being taught strong English and math skills, which are the foundation for all other learning.
I blame weak politicians and the PC crowd for allowing the bullying teachers’ unions to commandeer the education agenda, at least in this country.
This NYC story is appalling, even for US inner city schools.
Animal Farm is a much better book to help students understand “bias” in college textbooks (but are these kids really going to college?). Of course, reading Orwell now will cause a great disturbance in the Empire (unions and the political-education establishment).
I think we’re seeing the result of a generation of commie self destructive indoctrination in our schools now with the rise of the NDP polling numbers – this is how a generation commits self genocide, by empowering their malevolent indoctrinators.
It’s not like socials failed sates do not abound to provide a warning.

Get rid of universal public education, it’s a waste of time and money.
America: dead on its feet, just too lazy to fall down and rot yet.
Canada and every other country in the world: trying desperately to become America, as always. PLEASE God, don’t let Pony or Angry Tom win…a little help down here, Lord?
Public schools are now teaching kids how to plant seeds and grow gardens, pick up trash on the shoreline and try to produce energy without using dirty oil. More and more, parents are home schooling or working like dogs to send their kids to private schools. Cause and effect.
Our congregation (in Hamilton, Ontario) is sponsoring a honmeschool group. We may lose them because we don’t have enough room for their meetings. These meetings are parents-only, btw. Today’s information session must be limited to 100, due to fire code regulations.
We’re hoping that there will be a noticeable drop in enrollment in Ontario schools this fall.
Huff and puff and blow our civilisation down – sure. I was impressed by how feeble and sick the Occupy children looked compared to the hippies of my generation, and how quickly their encampments turned into diseased swamps. The hippies mostly were tolerably well brought up, and were reasonably healthy (before drugs) and even moderately creative. The Occupy-ers were presumably brought up by hippies or even by the children of hippies. The hippies rejected their parents and the knowledge their parents had imparted. Their children pay the price.
About 30 years ago, I was asked by an American I was working with if I knew algebra. With a high school diploma in the distant past, I helped whim with his binomial theorems – and then discovered he was working on third year college algebra! I now volunteer at a high school with kids who have got that far and cannot read, like a 16-year-old who wants a driver’s licence this year but cannot read traffic signs. It’s scary, not just in New York.
Totally unacceptable. Not one of those pigs is black. Where is the outrage ?
I believe the wolf was black. He was gonna wait til the brick house pig peeked out the door and then bust a cap on his ass.
Aviator, I have to ask: Where are you that 16-year-olds can’t read? I know, nearly 30 years ago when my daughter was strugglng in school, I asked that she be held back. I was told it was board policy to advance all children, regardless of achievement level. That was her last year in a (Calgary) public school.
The proper ghetto phrase is “…in his..” not “…on his..” Otherwise, totally correct.
On a more serious note, this is not a recent development. Detroit schools have failed for years and years to teach basic literacy. Last I heard, one in three graduates in Detroit was functionally illiterate.
If they can read at the 3rd grade level, it’s way better than not being able to read at all….. such is progress. I’ve always thought that teaching someone to read is way more important than what they read. Were I a teacher (and not restrained in my methods), I might use comic books if that kept the interest and taught the ability to read. Selection of reading material can only come after the skill is acquired.
RUN,RUN, RUN. SEE DICK RUN. SEE JANE RUN AFTER DICK………….!

Not to split hairs with semantics but it’s actually “Pop a cap in yo zzz” – or – “pop a cap in dat niggaz azz” – or – “bust a cap in dat cracker skinny mo fokin zzz”.
Depending on vocal inflections, one can determine the seriousness of the threat, but knowledge of key verbs can be an asset for white hipsters to “deescalate” when they wander into black neighbourhoods on cultural pilgrimages.
See dick see jane see dick and jane at home beining taught by parents see NEA see nea and truant officer arrst dick and janes parents see dick and jane forced into NEA run schools see dick and jane programed and indoctrinated by NEA see dick and jane bow down to big brother and kiss the rings on King Obamas hands
Yo nigga, what be wid all dis whyte privelege n sheeyat? Ya’ll axin like yous still be plantayshun massas o sheeyat. Mo fo.
canuck66 – I’m in BC. The more “advanced” students are reading Calvin and Hobbs comics… Be advised this is a remedial class but the kids still get to graduate on time and with their peers. The concept of repeating a grade is totally alien to the “modern” school system. I’m doing my bit but it won’t be enough for these kids to survive in the real world.
“The Children Are Our Future” – absolutely true. I work with high school students every day. Although some would be challenged by The Little Pigs, most would not be.
Just like in society in general, we have smart and ambitious students … and idiots.
Pottery vs Calculus students. Unfortunately, more and more students are choosing pottery.
I know for sure that people 100 years ago were articulate and expressed themselves much better than today – LOL.
I believe you are correct and therefore I bow and pay homage to your superior knowledge.
Sorry David, I’m not fluent in Ebonics. Or street vernacular. Nor will I ever be! 🙂
Ghetto would be
See dick dick jane
Today the kids are tuaght the 3 R’s mean Reduce,Reuse,Recycle they even have stupid soing about it and the lies in the text books and such others as THE KIDS ENVIROMENT BOOK and A EARTH BOOK FOR KIDS plus that old stand by 50 SIMPLE THINGS KIDS CAN DO TO SAVE THE EARTH
Those kids are probably learning more from Calvin & Hobbes than from their NDP/Communist teachers.
