About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Ahh. Peggy's Cove. About the only place left in NS the socialists haven't destroyed. Maybe because of the local folks, who are true workers, being fishermen and all. Witness Swissair 111. Heroes all.
Hope all you had a nice Dominion Day. We here in Ontario spent our time washing, cleaning and other chores that require electricity. As today's hydro rates are off-peak we took advantage of the day to do chores that require electricity. As seniors on a fixed income, we must take advantage of the lower rates. Thank you Dalton McGuinty, Kathleen Wynne and the rest of you Green Freaks for screwing up what should have been a celebratory day.
Have a good one, y'all! Big salute.

Keep hearing about (outrageous) hydro costs in Ontariowe but have no knowledge of the rate per kWh. Here in Calgary, we're paying $0.08/kWh PLUS Administration, Delivery, Distribution and Transmission charges ADD Rate riders and Local Access Fees to give an effective rate of $0.1678/kWh - more than double the published rate. We have no so-called 'smart meters'. How would that rate compare with what you pay in Ontariowe?
Beautiful country. No wonder the Indians want it all back, and with the help of our supreme court and other apologists they have made great progress in racing back to the mythical past. Canada day is a celebration of the white privilege that built this country, so it too will come under attack in the near future from the far left. We will let it happen, because we are known to be so polite. Far too polite. The 150th in '17 will be the big one. The activists will be busy and the natives won't be celebrating. Pride has taken on a entirelly different meaning. This is no longer your fathers Canada. Hopefully I'm wrong. Until then,...Happy Canada day.
My May-2015 Ontario Hydro bill (Milton Hydro Distribution Inc.) for April usage was $1,213.45 (two homes and a business off one meter). This worked out to 15.43 cents per kWh. In the early winter it was closer to 19 cents. It was a cold winter.
Delivery, regulatory charges, debt retirement charges and HST accounted for 40% of total bill.
Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
The newest 'Order of Canada' recipients was also released today.
I don't recognize many of the names.
Don Cherry was not on the list.
But Bob Rae had his status elevated. He is now a Companion of the Order, or something like that.
I think the people selected are vetted by a committee similar to the one that JT wants to set up for Senate 'appointees'. Yeah, like that will work better than having the people of the province elect them.
Anyways, the CBC has an article up on it.
Check out the picture of Rae. His comb-over has slipped a wee bit. He almost makes Donald Trump look sexy.

Never trust a man with a comb-over, he is lying to himself, he will lie to you.
A translation;
O Canada!
Land of our forefathers,
Thy brow is wreathed with a glorious garland of flowers.
As is thy arm ready to wield the sword,
So also is it ready to carry the cross.
Thy history is an epic
Of the most brilliant exploits.
Thy valour steeped in faith
Will protect our homes and our rights.
Will protect our homes and our rights.
I like it.
Too bad it has no relevance to the Quebec of today.
Where is that spot with the horses running on the beach ?How beautiful is that? wow ! this country is so big and so beautiful. What a blessing. I thank Godeveryday for all of the blessings he has poured out on me my family and my country. i will most certainly happily take up arms to defend it from threat both foreign and domestic!!
HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE!!! GOD BLESS CANADA!!
So much water
I suppose with the longest coastline in the world that would be a focus
Our on-peak rate is 16.1c per KW. This does NOT include all the other charges like you listed. Off-peak is 8.1c per KW. Now the highest rate in North America thanks to the so called Green Energy Act.
Great little movie. I consider myself a tough old bird, but it choked me up in a few places. WRT electricity cost in Ontario, the sticker price ranges from 7.7 cents to 16 cents per kWh. My last monthly bill for a country home was $33.88 for the power. Pretty cheap. However, there was a $62.49 charge to deliver it, a $2.45 Regulatory charge, another $2.45 Debt Retirement Charge and of course, $13.16 HST. From that total I received a "Clean Energy Benefit" of 10%, leaving me with a bill of $102.99. Cheers, Eric
Just in passing. I got an error message saying the above offering was not successful. Well, being a suspicious old dog, I opened SDA in another window and there was my comment, big as life. All this to explain why I submitted the same comment six times a month or two ago. Old but not senile, Eric
Thanks for reminding me. I think I will have a shower. Maybe even cook some food.
I have a curious question about Canadian Practices. In one of the latest Trudeau policy statements he made the announcement that all development would have Scientists & FN at the table
Why would anyone have a seat of privilege. Who represents the REST of Canada. The Civil service is NOT a valid representative of OTHERS not at the table. It just seems undemocratic to have "special interests" involved in decision making without FULL public disclosure & the opportunity to provide a conflicting opinion...
Scientific opinion is only (likely) valid if it has been properly presented & vetted by the scientific community...
Anyone know the location of the horses runnin on tha beach? very beautiful.

This is my June bill. Total is 154.64 or .254 cents per Kwh. A long way from the .043 cents we were paying in 2003 before the Liberals took over. Thank you again for this Ontario teachers union, Ontario nurses union and all the other unions who have to have the Liberals in power.
Tired of doing my laundry and ironing after seven o'clock at night especially in winter. There is a surplus of electricity in Ontario so this is completely fraudulent. We jump through hoops in Ontario for no reason. And since women still do most of the housework, this is a war on women! Happy Dominion Day.
All the people in ontario keep complaining but the only way to rebuke liberal or ndp in ontario is to move to alberta. make sure the wild rose get's in next election plain and simple
Yeah, they jack up hydro rates and try to ban woodstoves. Currently you may heat with wood but only as a backup..... Then the insurance does it's bit.
A while back an American produced, what I think is the best overview of Canada...for Americans...

Sable island NS
Wild there courtesy of an 18 century shipwreck
That was Sable Island where the horses were running wild. From Wiki:
"... a small island situated 300 km (190 mi) southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and about 175 km (109 mi) southeast of the closest point of mainland Nova Scotia in the Atlantic Ocean. It is a year-round home to approximately five people, with summer numbers swelled by tourists, scientists, and others. Notable for the Sable Island horse, the island is protected and managed by Parks Canada. Permission must first be granted by them before anyone may visit. Sable Island is part of District 7 of the Halifax Regional Municipality[1] in Nova Scotia. The island is also a protected National Park Reserve of Canada."
I believe sable island is the remains of a terminal moraine
Just back from our local Canada Day celebrations. They exhibited so many things that make Canada great. Young and old. Lots of different ethnic groups, all working hard at being 'Canadian' rather than clinging to where ever they originally came from. A real celebration of what makes Canada the greatest place in which to live.
Except for those who attended as an opportunity to express their 'hate for Harper'. The Council of Canadians had a booth telling people that our coast line is doomed due to Harper. Another guy had signs saying, "Canada or Harper: You can't have both". An older couple wore big 'Stop Harper', signs shaped of course, like a stop sign.
I told them they should be ashamed of themselves for using an event expressly designed to bring Canadians together in order to spread divisiveness and rancor. They didn't see it that way - in their minds they are doing their duty as loyal Canadians to rid their country of an illegitimate pestilence.
I reckon this is an example of why the left appears to be winning. Never miss an opportunity, be relentless and don't give a fig about social niceties. Winning is everything.
Well said and you are right about the left being relentless in its pursuit of controlling everyone they way they see fit. Those people are disgusting.
Thanks Robert for this great video.
Happy Dominion Day to all.
Canada is the best country on Earth even if the Liberals don't think so.
'Stop Harper'
You see a lot of this nonsense around although a lot less now than a few months ago. I've always wondered .... stop Harper from doing what? Lowering taxes? Balancing the budget? Protecting Canadians from criminals and terrorists?
I would bet that, if asked exactly what is meant by "stop Harper", those putting forth this proposal would be completely stuck for an answer.
Where were these stop Harper people when Pierre Elliot Turdeau was busy doing his best to remake this country into a clone of France and other european socialist countries. Why didn t they object when he decimated our military and borrowed us into debt. Why do they think that a drama teacher who has never held a real job and has absolutely zero experience at any thing that required him to earn money to pay his bills is qualified to run our country? Maybe they think that the angry socialist Mulcair and his band of political misfits from Quebec could do a better job than Harper, they have to be kidding.
"I would bet that, if asked exactly what is meant by "stop Harper", those putting forth this proposal would be completely stuck for an answer."
Yeah well I'll explain it fer ya.
It because they could not admit their chief complaint is that Harper and his CPC usurped their, rightful, (in their mind) place at the public trough.
Wally, where are you getting that "steeped in faith" business? The line is "deux fois trempe", usually rendered "twice tempered", as in the tempering of steel for swords. It's a reference to the two occasions on which the French Canadians took up arms in their own national interest and against their ostensible loyalties: the War of 1812, in which they repudiated their ties to France by fighting against France's ally, the USA, and the rebellion of 1838 when they repudiated their ties to Britain by taking up arms against the Crown. Bear in mind it was written to be the French-Canadian national anthem, and that's why the lyric was not translated but entirely replaced when the tune was taken over by Canada.
