Phantom, you should hear these morons in government consultations wailing on about riparian cultures. As Euan notes rightly, this will demolish ecosystems in dozens of square kilometers at a time. It shows the near-complete divorce between conservationism, which I think we all support, and so-called environmentalism.

One wonders if even the greens are this nuts. It seems more likely that wind farm rent seekers will do anything to get their pet projects subsidized at any cost. Hydro is efficient because mother nature delivers the water to the level of the head. Pumping water back up the mountain because of random winds underscores the reason such a generating system (wind) shouldn't be on the grid.

The cost of such a project is likely more than a system of the latest generation of clean Nukes which could supply the UK with reliable and much less costly electricity.

in their quest to eliminate fossil fuels they are busy literally destroying the landscape, seascape and any other scape you can think of. a fascinating reality is that without fossil fuels they cannot make one lousy wind turbine or one single solar panel. there are just way too many stupid people on this planet for it to survive.

I have always been of the mentality that we should remove all "safety" Labels from every article known to man...let nature take its due course.....the Human genome would be better for it...no?
