In tonight's amusement en route to the tips, Hoosier S.H. Dudley and Canadian tenor Harry Macdonough (plus two unidentified vocalists starting on the second chorus) harmonize on a jaunty 1908 recording of Red Wing.

The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

Getting fed up with all the opposition, mostly disguised as opposition to its location, to the monument to the victims of communism in Ottawa. There are many museums and some monuments to the Holocaust which is a good thing, but where are the monuments to the victims of communism?

I can only think of the Museum of Terror in Budapest which also talks of the victims of the nazis. Also a park there which has a lot of the statues of communist heroes, but which is not really a monument. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mCitJQKVYU

Seems there's a certain hesitancy in major investment by the oil industry. A fresh new NDP government has a way of clouding the future. The past has a way of reminding them why.

A lesson on how to dig deep, I mean realllly deep, to keep a good scam going. If only they had the capacity to tax it, the whole problem could have been avoided.

Taking a plane ride is like riding with a hundred random hitchhikers and power hungry sky waitresses.

Nicola - are you thinking of the Square of Heroes? That's more to celebrate Magyars than Communists. Saw it some years ago and can't say was really impressed. The statue in Budapest that did move me was the one of Imre Nagy on the bridge at Martyr's Square. But then, I'm old enough to remember the Hungarian Revolution and listening to CBC radio updates.

I agree about the opposition to the monument to the victims of communism. I think that these are mostly by people that sympathize with communism.

We saw the Budapest Museum of terror in 2013 and were greatly moved as I saw first hand how many of my wife's and my extended family suffered in Russia.

We also saw the display of shoes along the wall by the shore of the Danube. Jews were herded to this area by the Arrow Cross, made to take off their shoes and then thrown into the Danube to drown.

It is really sobering to think that many here in Canada and the US would like to repeat that experiment on our people.

The problem with this monument is that it is an ugly eyesore.

As are the results of communism.

I agree with a monument to the victims of communism, but the one being proposes is really ugly. Rebel Media did an episode about the proposed monument where they showed what it would look like. I think the designers need to go back to the drawing board.

Calgary has lots of u-g-l-y "public art" monuments, made possible by 1% allocation of project construction budget to "art" for city funded projects.

A meteorologist calls it as it is: lies, embellishment, and sensationalism.

Yes, that means you, Mr. Dave Phillips.

Liberal Wynnetario.

Media Party omits the word: Liberal.

I have seen several pictures and I do not think the monument is ugly at all. In fact it looks interesting to me. I think the fuss is politically motivated and whipped up by the media. Most complainers knew nothing of plans for a "judicial precinct" which is likely not needed at this point anyway. The monument has become a symbol for anti-Harper sentiment, so of course, lots if leftists are complaining.

Delighful choice this morning EBD, I had never heard the original lyrics. In fact. I thought it went like this:
Oh the sun shines bright on Mrs. Cartwright,
She couldn't fart right,
For she was air-tight,
La dee da .... I have long since forgotten the rest.

That was a fun read and would apply to damn near any research. Climate change and second hand smoke immediately come to mind but there are dozens more. At least eating more chocolate would create a bit of enthusiasm even if one gained a lb. or two. Explains the countless times I've seen two "experts" debating a subject with opposing conclusions. Also explains why the word expert has lost all credibility.

Yup and the CBC headline is just as bizarre
"Ex-politician sentenced"
Yet nowhere do they state what elected office, if any, the pedophile ever held.
I guess the campaign poster still writes itself, post the iconic photograph Wynne,Pretty Vacant and Pediophile all gazing upon their fellow spirits; 'Vote Justin.. for the children".

I understand, and agree with everything you say. But I still think this particular monument is ugly.

"Hundreds of armed bikers to surround Phoenix mosque for rally critics say will ‘terrorize worshippers’"

"Hundreds of armed bikers were expected to surround a Phoenix mosque late Friday to hold a “freedom of speech” rally that critics have called an excuse to “terrorize worshippers.”

The organizers of the rally, who were encouraging protesters to bring drawings of the Prophet Muhammad, claim the protest is being held in retaliation for the violence perpetrated earlier this month by two ISIL sympathizing shooters at another “Draw Muhammad” event in Texas. The two shooters, who were killed after opening fire on police at the event, are believed to have occasionally prayed at the mosque the bikers are targeting."
