“you” in the above comment was not directed specifically to “Oz” but instead was directed to the incredibly naïve among us that believe this whole “dying with dignity” thing will improve society. For who? Certainly not for the aged or the disabled.

The more valid question is what is China going to do with all those unemployed men and women? If tanks, trucks, airplanes, etc are being made by robots and farms are being run by robots that frees up a huge amount of the population to go to war and settle conquered lands…Think about all the men able to pull a trigger during WW2 that couldn’t be drafted due to their jobs at the factories considered too important to the war effort. Now imagine a scenario, like the USSR during the Nazi attack, when every possible trigger-puller/cannon fodder is thrown against an enemy that is technically superior in everything except numbers. It will be a Chinese Lebenstraum.
A.I. is fine until it obtains the ability to use reason and discretion.
Then it makes value judgements and stops taking instructions.
I have been contemplating that scenario for a few years now.
There was a reason for the one child policy that the PRC brain trust must have known would result in a lopsided extra male population.
The flipside is that these ‘Little Princes’ are the only progeny that their family has going forward and their parents are loathe to lose them for no really good reason because it means
the end of their bloodline.
It’s all in the “marketing”. There will be an “attack” on Chinese interests–the PLA will be deployed and then the secret police will start rounding up men (17-40) from schools, work, bars, restaurants, etc. Followed by the older men (40+) being rounded up to be drivers, stretcher bearers, cannon fodder and possibly older women (40+) to act as nurses, ammo carriers, etc. The last two categories (older men and women) are liabilities to gov’t as these folks will require more healthcare, pensions, etc–while not contributing anything meaningful (to the gov’t–such as taxes or work).
Um, if horses could vote, they would form a political party to free themselves from the slavery of pulling wagons, ploughs, being ridden and not end up as pet food. They would then demand reparations for thousands of years of forced labor in the form of welfare payments to all future generations…
The successful outcome of a horse’s right to vote would be the internal combustion engine and electric motor to do all the work while they frolic bucolically in the fields grazing at their leisure. hmmm, isn’t that what they mostly have now, except for the pet food part?
