  1. Daily Caller:

After publicly humiliating the Internal Revenue Service, a North Carolina man received more than $100,000 from the agency.

Lyndon McLellan had the bank account for his convenience store seized by the IRS, and at first he wasn’t even sure why. The agency used civil asset forfeiture laws to take McLellan’s money without convicting or charging him of a crime…

    The whole thing here.
(Note: the phrase “received more than $100,000 from the agency” is a bit inapt; that sum refers to his own money, the money that the IRS seized, and not money he “received” from the agency.)

  2. Oh man – that vid. Just awful. And it cannot be unseen. I just sent the link to all my friends. Soon to be former friends I’m sure.

  3. That’s frightening, Peter. Yet I strongly suspect that a majority of Americans (and Canadians) would willingly vote for more government control. To be more precise, a majority of people who cast a ballot would. It seems that 40 – 50% don’t care.
How can our society move forward when only 25% of citizens have sensible, logical views on public policy?

  4. OK. Hot Buttered Popcorn is dreadful, though I only watched about 20 seconds, maybe it got ‘edgier’.
But in the early 70’s bands such as Supertramp, Styx, Journey, etc, were Rock and/or Roll’s biggest sellers. HBP is bad disco. The other bands that I mentioned were bad rock.
I am proud to say that I caught the Plasmatics playing at CBGB’s in 76,give or take a year. They were both great and terrible.
    But yeah, punk was necessary.

It’s no secret that the CBC has been promoting Omar Khadr’s release since the onset of his arrest and detention at Guantanamo Bay. Anyone who is familiar with how the CBC operates knows that hundreds if not thousands of Canadians have been involved in surveys concerning this matter, and the majority are in favor of keeping him behind bars. (My guess is about 65% across Canada.) In a recent Supreme Court ruling, the judges decided that Khadr should have served the sentence of a youth offender. One slight problem with that decision, Khadr was arrested and detained in the USA, and tried as a terrorist. He was allowed to return to Canada under the agreement that he serve the balance of his sentence in this country.
My question is, why does the Supreme Court of Canada not honour this agreement??
When I commented on this story at CBC.Ca, my commented was deleted immediately.

  6. Opps sorry, that last line should read, ”my comment was deleted intermediately.

  8. “How can our society move forward when only 25% of citizens have sensible, logical views on public policy?”
Agreed. I think that we will all have to go through a fire at some point soon. We will become “Whisperers” for a while.
Peter has a knack for finding these gems.

  9. Our Supreme Leaders know what is best for us mere mortals. All this stuff about elected governments is just window dressing. I await the time when they overturn a government budget.

  10. Whew, that was cringe-inducing stuff. Makes The Archies look like deep, introspective intellectuals.

  11. Using a plane is like riding with 100 hitchhikers and one power hungry waitress: Did you hear about the woman who got a suicide text from her hubby while she was on the tarmac awaiting take off? She attempted to call husband and or 911/police and was prevented by the sky waitresses due to “regulations”. The plane was sitting not flying. the waitresses in their infinite wisedumb didn’t even bother to tell the Captain. Long horrific story short, lady gets to sit and wait till she takes off, flies to her destination and disembarks to call the police…husband dead. Thank you sky waitresses!!!!!!

  14. Wonder what would happen if the Americans requested Khadr’s return? Just askin’

  15. The “consortium” objects to the Tory turndown of their election debates. No problem – they’ll do it without Harper.
It will be a tag team on Harper by all debaters, moderators and “middle class Canadians,” with nothing but negativity to offer – IOW no changes from the previous format:
“Broadcasters fight back against federal leaders’ debate changes”
    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/broadcasters-fight-back-against-federal-leaders-debate-changes/article24442646/
Liz May will be Harper’s stunt double. Remember, she only went into politics because of him.

  16. Don Morris….B.B.King is one of my all-time favourites. He’ll be missed!

  17. Since when is Supertramp bad rock?
You’ve never heard “School”, “Fool’s Overture” or “Hide in Your Shell”?
