Wynne's stunning allegations appeared to be a challenge to the other two parties: Shut up or we'll name you.
Stop making a noise about these nasty little allegations or we'll shame you.
I'm not an expert in criminal law, so if there's a lawyer out there or a cop who can help, can you clarify?
Is that blackmail?
Wynneing!

About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

I don't think it's blackmail -- it's worse than blackmail, in political terms. A tu quoque response to an accusation of personal misconduct is essentially an admission of guilt. Think about it: if someone accuses you of, say, pilfering money from the till, attempting to defend oneself by saying "well, you do it too" is a confirmation, not a denial.
It's interesting what Wynne is willing to do - "I'll take you down with me if you don't back off" - in a desperate attempt to maintain her position. I imagine at this point she's wishing she could re-do her response; it would have been better to just rent a U-Haul and move on.
Completely agree. If she knows this stuff was going on with other parties coming to her ... why didn't she report it, instead of dealing out favors.
This is why the public thinks that politicians are completely untrustworthy ... every chance they have to prove it - they do.
My impression of the Ontario Liberals generally is that most of them are SO incredibly dirty, and there are SO many skeletons trying to fall out of so many closets, that if they lose power and therefore lose the ability to redirect the police and the media, many of them will be looking at jail time.
I don't think its an unreasonable assumption on my part, given the scandals already known to us, and given the all-pervasive corruption that was "discovered" in Montreal.
I await the day of reckoning, popcorn at the ready.
"I await the day of reckoning, popcorn at the ready."
Don't hold your breath. The Royal Canadian Maryjane Pickers here in AB just cleared Redfraud of any wrong doing, even though she stole over 600k from taxpayers. The Whiner is a dike, and will be cleared of anything by that simple fact. How's Caladonia working out?
This type of government, criminal, corrupt can all be traced back to the failure of the Gomery Commission to effectively lay criminal charges in the Ad-scam scandal. When the federal Liberals were not brought to account then it became open season for lying, thieving, politicians to do whatever they damn well wanted.
You gotta think that there is so much stuff going on here that she will be driven from office disgraced just like redford was.
The opposition has to get itself together and mount proper investigations. The public will pickup on it and she will be gone. It was a big deal here in AB when the opposition literally drove the premier from office. It can be done.
I very much encourage Ms. Wynne to "give [us] da names", to ever-so-slightly paraphrase Mr. J. Chretien's demand during one of his Nicolae Ceaușescu moments, back in 2002 or so, when he was pressed by the Parliamentary Press Gallery about rumblings around his leadership from within the Liberal Party of Canada.
Such a move on her part would be very useful, actually, and much to her credit. Until she does (which, by the way, she won't, on account of, you know, admitting guilt, and, er, "less than omnipotence"), speculation will remain rife about those to whom she is anonymously referring. So, let's get started! I'm guessing, of course, but I think this has a great deal to do with the Ontario NDP.
Please remember that the only party in Ontario to gain a majority, since about 1920 or something (I'm thinkin', er, UFO (United Farmers of Ontario)), with a lower percentage of the popular vote than Ms. Wynne's was that led by Liberal-NDP-Liberal Bob Rae.
Which speculation fits the facts quite nicely, you'd have to agree, wouldn't you?
I can just imagine what would happen if Ms. Wynne's purported adversary, one Stephen J. Harper, ever said anything like she said: we'd never hear the end of it!
Absolutely right,JT!
And I doubt Wynne will be driven from Office, she is WAY too pc for the Ontario media to not protect until the very end.
Somewhere, there's an underling about to take the fall. Find out what that person's reward is going to be,and THAT would be real investigative reporting.
She threatens to name turn-coats from other parties that did or didn't make a deal. What party would "not" want to know who is double dealing? She is dumber than a hammer!
Perhaps she could write a book, "The Audacity of Hope."
My crystal ball tells me the lieberals will get away with this, like the $1.4 billion gas plant scandal.
Texas Canuck - I kinda agree ... the commie press will protect her. She has admitted to know that others have done it ... and she went ahead. Someone has to put her on a stand ... unless cheating, lying, cronyism, isn't considered illegal if you're a politician.
The Feds should step in and suspend the Ontario legislature and arrest why non.
I think "audacity of stupidity" would be appropriate. it could encompass the politicians and the electorate.
The majority of the people of Ontario knowingly elected the McGuinty/Wynne Liberals, the most corrupt government in it's history. No one can be surprised they continue on their path of success using the same tactics, arrogance is at the fore with Wynne, how dare the opposition parties question anything she does. Bribery, what bribery? Lies, what lies?
Ontario is a disgrace to the country, it's as close to a tin pot dictatorship as it gets in a democratic country.
What do you expect from someone that his her sexual identity from her husband for all those years?
Actually this is a very effective political tactic. It is the same tactic used against Allen Rock and his cronies by Henry Morgenthaler over abortion, and became the lever that struck that law down. Morgenthaler effectively told Parliament that he would uncover the skeletons of the murdered offspring of any and all political leaders and their relatives if the law was not dismissed. And today, you can't even open the discussion of abortion without becoming a pariah. You can't protest in front of an abortion clinic, even silently, without being arrested and imprisoned.
So I predict that Wynne and her hatchet persons will not suffer the slightest inconvenience. The OPP is bought and paid for, the RCMP is a dubious defender of law at best, so who will take those that have most certainly breached the public trust to task? The citizenry largely does not care, is not informed and doesn't want to be bothered as long as they have their bread and circuses as in the days of Rome.
And for anyone that has read Gibbons "Rise and Fall", the parallels are extremely apt. Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
A criminal indictment of the whole governing institution when you are found guilty of a crime is a concept that’s as brilliant as a knitted condom - but this is the level of mediocrity we have come to accept from the Ontario Liberal political syndicate and Queens park in general.
Someone should remind the MENSA symposium we know as the GTA Media that this is what happens when the media abandons its roll as public watchdog to become an active shill of the political syndicate running government.
Ontario is ruled by a degenerate triumvirate of prehensile interests - the Liberal crony network, the liberal media and the public sector unions - together you get the kind of sub human intellects and ethics displayed in the endless chain of Queens park scandals.
Never was a jurisdiction more needy of complete institutional reform -but you need a voter base with the capacity to be morally outraged by official malfeasance to react - this may be where morOntario has its political ethics retarded - at the grass roots level.
As bad as it is, Ontario voted for this level of malfeasance, they knew what this government was and they had the opportunity to punish malfeasance and send a message to any like- minded political cabal that malfeasance is a formula for political oblivion. But they failed to deliver this needed message to government and now they deserve to get the government they voted for good and hard.
Every sitting day of legislature is a reminder of how degenerate Ontario politics-government has become.
I expect no better from a province in which the populace sees the CBC, Global, CTV, Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail as purveyors of clear, reasoned and balanced reporting. When but a few markets have a right-of-centre media voice, little wonder the masses eat up the leftist slop that is fed them.
CALL .... HER .... BLUFF!!
extortion possibly breach of trust, normal for the breed.
What is needed is an honest cop.
Good luck with that.
Luckily the CBC has clarified the situation and cleared Premier Wynne:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/liberals-may-have-broken-bribery-rules-in-sudbury-byelection-run-up-elections-ontario-1.2963199
"The report appears to clear Premier Kathleen Wynne and newly elected Sudbury MP Glenn Thibeault amid uproar at Queen's Park over why a candidate in the Sudbury race stepped aside."
Well obviously she had no idea what was going on at the highest levels of her government, just like the gas plant scandal. Only the evil, controling Harper knows that much, being a leader and all. It sounds like a bad Law & Order episode: "no, don't tell me, don't tell me - that way I can fool the judge." Basically in our society the truth has become what a person can't lie their way out of, or claim they were misinterpreted.
Maybe it's my military background, but aren't leaders responsible for the actions of their subordinates and if they aren't aware of wrongdoing, aren't they even more culpable? No? Oh well, best liar wins.
The entire liberal party should be tossed in prison
Wait a minute, is that Wynne person not oath sworn to report any such activity to the police?
How does the oath of public office holders go?
Oath breaking is treason.
One does not swear to faithfully serve ones community and then sell state secrets and institutions to known enemies. Or unknown ones for that matter.
Call its bluff.
The premise that allows the liberals to obtain majority is a simple metric once opined by Rush Limbaugh.
In a contest between Santa Claus and logic, Santa wins everytime.
The task for the opposition party that can't seem to win an election in Ontario is that they cannot manage to tell the voter that Santa doesn't exist. For that matter when they even get the thought the opportunistic within the party start doing the liberals job for them by advising the leader that "doing that will upset the voters"....except "the voters" are the ones that will never vote for them and the ones that would feel that recurring sense of deja vu that the leader will be spending the rest of the campaign explaining they won't be doing that thing.
But I digress.
Point is that there are voters that understand the concept of no free lunches, but enough of them never show up because the ones getting the free lunch have will never understand capital flight will be.
