Carbon taxes are free stuff for governments. Don't expect statists to give up on that. Besides they can't resist taxing nothing because, being so wise, they'll allocate it more "fairly." How about a new NEP? Call it the NEP 2. But this time it will be more fair. Just like the 7% GST (goods and services tax) replaced the 13.5% MST (manufactures sales tax) was more fair. Take the tax on oil products and put it on electricity. More people use electricity than use oil products. Switching can be "revenue neutral" like the MST to GST was.

Maybe we can even copy the NEP program more closely and have a "made in Canada" price for electricity with the producers of electricity (Quebec, Ontario, BC hydro) providing and paying distribution costs.
