The advantage of living in a small rural community where you know the money is going to a good cause rather than paying for some highrise office rent and CEO's wages. These are true Canadian values and something unknown in Urban areas. It looks like they will do just fine, although the real pain is always in the personal things that can never be replaced. Here in Northern BC we usually hold benefit dances along with silent auctions . I'm always amazed how much money we raise for the cause. All volunteer with no overhead. That's what small town living is all about. Glad to help out.

A real tragedy, but I always first wonder if there was a homeowner's insurance policy in place? I'm in the industry and any policy would cover the costs of temporary housing, replacement of personal property and rebuilding of the house. Typically, a check is issued immediately for clothes, food, shelter, etc. Did they not carry insurance, is that why donations are needed?

I thought the exact same thing. How do you not have insurance if you own a house? Even if you are renting the renters insurance is pretty cheap.

First of all thank you all who have helped myself and my family with dealing with this tragedy. I wanted to post on this site specifically because of all the generous donors that found our info here. Thank you so much.
We did have insurance so the house will be taken care of, and at first when I found out my sister in law set up this account I was like we don't need that we have insurance, and let me tell you if something like this ever happens to yourself you would be glad someone took the time to think about donations.
A lot of things will not be covered by the insurance and I didn't even think about that the first week after the fire. Being rural we have volunteer Fire fighters that do charge for there services and we did have insurance for part of this but being such a large fire we had extra trucks and manpower. We covered about half of the cost with donations( thanks again). We had ambulance charges and not to mention time off work to deal with this which is far from over. I don't know what we would have done without the help so many of you have given. Thank you from myself my wife Amanda and our daughter Charlotte.
