Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Happy Flag Day!! Even if it is was based on the logo of the Liberal party of Canada, and even if I grew up with the Union Jack, I've gotten to love the Maple leaf! And it was voted in fair and square!

"Rotten in Denmark"
"That effectively presents the Ukrainians trapped in the pocket with an ultimatum: surrender or die.
“Surrender or die” has such a 20th century ring to it. The left-wing Guardian notes, with apparent genuine sadness, that Europe has been divided again. One gets the sense of a sense of guilt finally registering on the consciences of a self-appointed elite who thought they could remake the world according to the principles of fantasy. The wolf has arrived at Europe’s door, with many more wolves to follow."
"Not so long ago the peerless intellectuals of the West accepted the victory of the Cold War and the union of Europe with a kind of resentful churlishness; a legacy from the imbecile Ronald Reagan who came into a strategic fortune through sheer good luck. He did not deserve it. They even rewrote history to make it appear that the European project really won the peace. But now they know the truth. They won nothing and threw away everything."

Re: Iggy Pop - great catch on that performance EBD _ I loved IGG and the Ramones - if for anything their dogged determination to get their music out in spite of the death pit the music industry was at the time - I found an recent speech done by the Iggster In Britain, and I was amazed at how he is a true rational capitalist as opposed to the crony capitalism we are saddled with or the communitarian economics I had expected him to embrace.
The speech is here (a must for Igg and Stooges fans) -

"Obama the fool
When even the Washington Post realizes that we have a fool as president -- a man who has disgraced the office of the presidency -- we have crossed the Rubicon.
Barack Obama sat down (well, not really as you will see) for an interview with Buzzfeed. This is one of the websites that Barack Obama has used to circumvent mainstream media, let alone conservative media, where he might actually be asked a challenging question every once in a while. Apparently, he could not resist letting his full narcissism be on display."

"Traveling Corpse
How an American sergeant’s journey through frigid North Russia inspired a work of historical fiction"
"It was decided that Macalla would continue on to Archangel, still many miles away, taking Young’s body with him. He left on his sleigh, alone, in subzero Russian weather. Young’s body was frozen stiff in no time; to screen the body from view, it was wrapped in two of Toornman’s blankets. …
Macalla’s first night was spent with villagers, who sensed his cargo and offered little in the way of hospitality. His second night was worse, with the villagers refusing to give the pony and sled any shelter; it stood outside for all to see with its blanket-shrouded corpse. The villagers were greatly relieved when he left the next day. The third night he was allowed shelter, but only in the village dead house, where a deceased villager’s body awaited burial; Macalla slept between the two cadavers. His last night was the worst."
