This whole story is a bit off. Clearly this is not going to happen. As a feint or bit of subterfuge, it is risible.

Hey, it's the way of the Left, tell the enemy what, where and when you'll attack. We see this in our HOC where they want all information laid out for all to see, including the enemy, many of whom live among us.

Remember the phrase....."fundamentaly change...."

I have to disagree on one point.
It won't be American troops that suffer. History has a tendency to repeat for those who don't study.
Back years ago, a fresh telegenic democrat in the White House decided to arm and prepare some rebels to retake a small island from a brutal dictatorship.
The rebels presumed that the US would fully support the invasion with boots on the ground, the administration thought they only had to load the bullets.
We know this event as the Bay of Pigs...how'd that go anyways?
But I digress. The net result is those that would be considered allies in the fight against radical islam will be thrown under the bus and the idea of the US not willing to confront the radical elements will be reinforced.

Every promise by BHO has an expiry date. ... every one.

The best part of the post, and a new tagline for Kate: "Unleash the #hashtags of war!"

Today, the U.S. faces a clear and present danger. Unfortunately, that danger is its president.

I hate to be the pedant, but there was no "US Air Force" in 1944. It was the "United States Army Air Forces".

Exactly. Mayor Guiliani is right.

for me the jury is out on this one, it is the "generals"(pentagon) that announced this, there may just be a reason for it, other than to give the inhabitants warning to leave. Nothing like attracting all the players you can to one location and then wiping them out in one big battle. Or maybe they want as many there as possible and then go to locations that have been left under defended, who knows, this is one of those instances that may need to be played out before we know the reasoning. But they should have kept the rite ppl informed, and maybe they have, again we are not in the need to know, yet!

To be even more pedantic it was the United States Army Air Corps.

Maybe it’s a tactic. The US Administration says they’re going to attack Mosul, but in fact they are going to attack Paris to avenge Charlie Hebdo.

PS. The NY Times wasn’t as concerned about briefing ISIS on the impending attack. They noted “The briefing drew sharp criticism from Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona”. That’s their version of balanced reporting.

Who would have authorised such a release of information? The idiot in chief? or was it Valery Jarrett? What's the difference?

Who's side are they on? It can't be both sides...

To not be pedantic at all, I think Riffer is correct.

Now if only we could get the terrorists to tell us where the site is for the next suicide bombing............

Kate could have offered a shorter version:

Dear Enemy,

Please don't shoot me, I'm a collaborator.

Signed Turncoat.

Cheers

Hans Rupprecht, Commander in Chief

1st Saint Nicolaas Army
Army Group 'True North'

Keep scrolling down, Paul. The NYT article containing the line "The briefing drew sharp criticism from Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona" continues on for several paragraphs:

"In addition, American officials took the unusual step on Thursday of announcing the timing of the battle and the number of Iraqi and Kurdish forces to be deployed. Openly discussing future military operations is normally off-limits to avoid aiding the enemy, but American officials said it was done this time to try to weaken the resolve of the Islamic State fighters and to spur Mosul’s residents to rise up against the occupiers and help the Iraqi ground forces.

"That strategy angered Mr. McCain, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who, with Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, sent a blistering letter to Mr. Obama on Friday denouncing the briefing for reporters. “Never in our memory can we recall an instance in which our military has knowingly briefed our own war plans to our enemies,” Mr. McCain and Mr. Graham wrote.

"A defense official said Friday that the White House and Ashton B. Carter, the new defense secretary, “had no advance knowledge” of the briefing. Mr. Carter, speaking to reporters on Friday en route to Afghanistan, gave no date for the assault on Mosul. “Even if I knew exactly when that was going to be, I wouldn’t tell you,” he said.

"American officials said it was possible that announcing the battle for Mosul ahead of time could prompt many of the Islamic State fighters to slip away and make the retaking of the city less of a fight — perhaps to the point that it might not be necessary to have Americans call in airstrikes and advise Iraqi troops on the battlefield..."

Translation:

The announcement was made this time because the perfumed princes in the Pentagon don't know a damned thing about war or their enemy.

"Maybe if we announce we're attacking they'll just go away?" It takes a special level of denial and/or stupidity to get there.

If A. Hitler had received such a letter he wouldn't have believed it - one of the side-effects of the various British deception schemes was to make him super-skeptical. He did in fact receive accurate intelligence about the Normandy invasion from a source in Turkey, and did not in fact act on it.

Israeli plans are routinely compromised by the White House; presumably the Egyptians have received the same treatment, because they seem no longer to be informing their American "friends" about their plans. The Obama really is a disgusting creature, isn't he? And the Americans were not invited to take part in the recent Ukrainian talks.

As for an attack on Mosul, that is a bit of a no-brainer at some point.

P.S.: And how the (bleep) do they even expect these civilians to HEAR about the attack, when ISIS is dragging the region back into the stone age by torturing and/or executing people for using technology? They're chopping off women's hands for using cell phones, for god's sake. Men, of course, only get whipped for the same offense.

P.S.S.: If we had a different president, I'd hold out the hope that they made the announcement in order to draw ISIS fighters to Mosul, then drop a few nukes in a couple of months.

But Obama.

I think the Obama WH was in the panic mode, stop the negative bleeding by providing News of some action. Anything! The week was a disaster

Sec of State spokesperson (little Girl Scout) suggesting that Jobs (Selling Cookies) to counter the core (Islamic) problem of terrorist recruiting.

A WH terrorist Forum that did not address radical Islam, the threat is the tea party support of keystone Pipe line & AGW

What a useless Moron

Now the Obama likes to get American soldiers killed, so his motivation can be understood. As for scaring the enemy away - should one laugh or cry? Much more likely is to attract every soldier in ISIS for an apocalyptic battle.

The members of the current administration are traitors, as we know. But even the Americans who are not need a lesson or two. I would advocate that the generals severally go to various old-age homes and talk to the veterans there - "hey Pops, what means this funny word winning? And how do you do it?" Then there might be some progress.

BOTH the second AND third Canadian Divisions landed on Juno Beach on 6 June 1944. Together with the 4th Canadian Armoured Division and the 1st Polish Division, they comprised the First Canadian Army. Humour is good - but don't insult Canadian veterans in the process. Get it right.

I agree with Robert on the first post. Even Obama the community organizer in chief can not be that stupid, but as with Hitler's fixation on Calais for the invasion of Europe, it could divert attention from the real objective. Or it could be just kicking the garbage pile to see what moves, or another line in the sand to be ignored. I'm sure the last thing he wants is a lot of body bags to top off his legacy as the dumbest commander in chief since Publius Varus. On the other hand he's surrounded himself with the dumbest administration in US history, so only time will tell.

Its nice that you can read Kt, but do you understand what you read?

Here's a question for you. What kind of military leader gives his enemy his whole battle plan months in advance?

By the way, we did mention this kind of thing as a possibility waaaay back in 2008 before Barry even won the election. Personally I never envisioned the White House giving a military briefing on upcoming operations TO THE ENEMY, but then I'm not a Lefty.

Here's another question for you to consider. How long do you think the members of an -all volunteer- army are going to take the orders of a leader who briefs their enemies on their battle plans?

Go to war under "I WON" ?.... Better to shoot yourself in the foot.

'To not be pedantic at all, I think Riffer is correct'
I know Riffer is correct.
In his book Age Shall not Weary Them Bill Barry lists 7 of Saskatchewan's finest who gave their lives in the USAAF.

The 3rd Division landed on the D-Day with the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade. My father's Regiment - The Fort Garry Horse - was part of that independent armoured Brigade. Don't think the 2nd Division landed in France till about a month later.

Now, as for the topic, I figure it's just because Ol' Jughead is reduced to talking about his future plans because he sure doesn't want to bring up any of past works of genius.

Just for the record there is now 2 "paul in calgary" users folks. I am the origional and I did not post the above. !! Thank you

Operation EMPTY HEAD for liberals becuase liberals have empty heads and their pea sized brains as well

That's kinda a thin margin for your name... capitalising the location, "calgary"

"And the Americans were not invited to take part in the recent Ukrainian talks." John Lewis

Do you think Putin has won the competition, over Obama, and is now the leader of the new World Order?

Interesting times!

Someone above said,

" ... Even Obama the community organizer in chief can not be that stupid,... "

If not stupidity then it is malice.

With what I know of Obama, I'd say it is probably a bit of both.

"I'm sure the last thing he wants is a lot of body bags to top off his legacy as the dumbest commander in chief since Publius Varus". I musty with respect disagree. Obama is a cruel and violent man, and not bound by law, pity, public opinion, or common decency. Some of the SEALS who killed bin Laden came to their ends in an ambush which seems a little like a put-up job. A couple of thousand US soldiers, untrained in control of infectious disease, were sent to Africa "to help combat ebola" (and arrived too late to be helpful). So he has done what he could.

Or almost everything. He probably has not as yet imported ISIS into the United States, though it may be his intention to do so as part of a Syrian "relief effort". And he is not known to have ordered release of American nuclear weapons technology to the Iranians, though I predict that he will do so.

When I see what Obama is doing and saying I am reminded of this quote,

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within.
An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly.
But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.
He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.
A murderer is less to fear.”

--- Marcus Tullius Cicero

John, Obama will do whatever it takes to destroy the USA. Taking control of the internet to silence Matt Drudge and Fox News appears to be next on the agenda.

Obama is capable of anything.

"Obama is capable of anything."

Obama can't open an umbrella, or throw a baseball, or admit that his is wrong or has ever failed, or play poker, or produce his real birth certificate, or give an answer while eating his waffle.
