In London, Ontario, Political Correctness is raising it's ugly head, again. Andrew Lawton, of AM980 was taken off the air, for a true statement he made on Facebook about the number of anti-gay hate crimes in Canada vs. the number of male to male transmissions of HIV infection. Some whiny, gay people got offended and started a campaign to get Andrew silenced.
Is this really about those comments, or is it because Andrew interviewed Justin Trudeau and did not allow Trudeau to give non-answers?
The program director has removed Andrew from the air for a minimum of 2 weeks, but is under pressure from the grievance class to have him fired. Meanwhile, a search of the program director's Facebook postings found disparaging posts about Christians and Christianity.
Should someone start screaming., "Hate Crime!"?

BTW, the program director is a client of mine. I think he has every right to make crass comments about Christmas and Andrew should have every right to make a crass comment about the gay people, even though he didn't.

There is a possible connection to this story and two London orgs. Emerging Leaders and Pillar Non-Profit.
Both organization look and sound like fronts for the LPC. EL has even "sponsored" an appearance for Justin Trudeau.
EL and Pillar recently approached city hall with a request for funding. They must have considered the fact that they "supported" the majority of left leaning councillors that the funding would be given the green light. However, as the public pressure against this funding increased, a very public campaign bloomed, with Lawton become a lightning rod after an on air interview with the chair of EL Sean Quigley, that went horribly wrong for Sean.
Things came to a head after Quigley provided the data for the London Free Press that contended the city was a hot bed of homophobia. This was the push poll Andrew Lawton referred to in his face book post as a push poll.
Dollars to donuts says Emerging Leaders put Lawton in their sights after the Trudeau interview, this was just the opening they where looking for.
Corus radio is most politically correct. They are thinned skinned. One wrong comment and it's curtains for you. They fired Dave Rutherford (QR77 Calgary) for some legit criticism one month before he was set to retire. He'd worked for them for 25 years......pissants.

Andrew Lawton told me that he admires that being gay is not the central focus of my life. It is part of my identity, just like being straight is part of someone his identity. I don't see it as a point to constantly fight over, it is simply part of my life conditions. I am also female and a veterinarian and a Canadian Conservative.
My goal in life is to be able to enjoy the fruits of my labour with people that I love and to have the least amount of external interference in my life as possible, as I imagine most of yours is as well.

The Andrew Lawton saga is a sad and ugly one for sure. Anyone who listens to the
show knows that Andrew is not anti-gay nor did he say anything wrong on the
subject; this is all about politics.
The reason for Mr. Lawton received a suspension was because some people do not
like to hear the truth or hear people mull over what might be the truth. I am
disgusted with the people at the radio station who succumbed to the harassment by
a bunch of militant brutes who were out to get Mr. Lawton and they should be
totally ashamed of themselves. People who work in media should always fight for
the right to speak freely and if they don't agree with free speech, I'd be happy to
advise them where they might consider moving to. It may be Mr. Lawton who is
silenced today by those with a mob mentality but it could be you tomorrow and
without free speech, you have no democracy.
I will tune in February 23rd and reserve judgment as to whether I am permanently
through with 980 and their sponsors. A radio station that does not protect freedom
of speech is not the station for me.
