We Don't Need No Stinking Giant Fans

Wind goes AWOL;

UK electricity demand hit its highest level this winter on Monday - while wind turbines generated their lowest output, official figures show.

Cold weather saw UK demand hit 52.54 gigawatts (GW) between 5pm and 5.30pm, according to National Grid.

At the same time, low wind speeds meant the UK's wind turbines were producing just 573 megawatts of power, enough to meet only one per cent of demand - the lowest of any peak period this winter, Telegraph analysis of official data shows.

Earlier on Monday wind output had dropped even lower, generating just 354 megawatts at 2pm, or 0.75 per cent of Britain's needs - the lowest seen during any period this winter.

What would really help to put the uselessness of wind into perspective is the percentage generated AND the wind infrastructure cost as a percentage of the total energy infrastructure cost, i.e. 1 % of the total energy for 20% of the total cost.

If someone has the numbers for the UK...?

Ain't wind just grand..?

"UK's wind turbines were producing just 573 megawatts of power, enough to meet only one per cent of demand "

Nothing that a hundred times as many turbines won't fix.

There's just not enough dependable energy density in wind for a modern society. There's a reason that our European ancestors moved from wind power to water power when they were able - dependability.

"Welsh Government set for 'historic' block on fracking amid health and climate fears"

"Wednesday’s debate comes after Scotland also announced a moratorium on fracking – meaning that two UK constituent nations have now signalled their opposition to unconventional gas and oil extraction."

I recall that Kate had a photo here a couple of years ago of a wind turbine, it may have been in Sask., I am not sure. it was about minus 40 and sunny and the turbine was resting comfortably, generating absolutely zero power. as I look out my patio door I see that there is no wind here and it is very cold. the nearby wind farm is still and it is a good thing there is peak load facility close by that uses natural gas. it is my understanding that this peak load facility runs almost all the time these days.

"...or 0.75 per cent of Britain's needs - the lowest seen during any period this winter."

No doubt throwing more money through the taxpayer at this lack of wind will solve the problem.

Yeah well we didn't leave the stone age because we ran outa rocks.

Wind in so 19th century......

Windat choppers,Noisie, and worthless and still stupid greenpeace supports the damn things

Maming birds and making noise and producing a minimal amout of power more proof green energy is a total crock

Despite all the evidence to the contrary, Ontario is full blown turbine crazy. Alberta premier Prentice is openly talking new and increased taxes to pay the bills. Instead of shelving the 2 billion dollar carbon capture or doubling down on billions in wind mills taking more from Albertans seems to be the only answer.
Funny that, when debating the hair on fire left, they never seem to have an answer to why wealth distribution is the only answer to their bugaboo AGW.

Any reference to "alternative energy" should be considered a typo. It's properly, "alternative to energy".

Don't turn on your dish washer or washing machine and certainly not the electric clothes dryer
