He taught children.

This segment of John Gormley Live this morning, (MP3 Podcast) is too much. A dream guest for Gormley.

Retired teacher, Carl Chirland (sp?), someone within the hierarchy of Peacequest-Regina, thought to opine on the air about Saskatchewan's Primary Reserve HS program. Good on Gormley for his non-confrontational interview. To say this "lit up the lines" is a slight misnomer.

It really needs to be heard to be believed, but I'll tell you, it's no accident that Peacequest's logo is a flag of surrender.

Lord love a duck... optional access to a elective of Reserves is a gateway for the military to gain access to young minds and training them into the life style and perpetuates bullying, non thinking automatons....but parents that have issues about the ontario non-optionalsex education is argued to be just informational and in no way indoctrinates children....brother these groups need to get their mumbo jumbo all on one physco babble page.

The only surprising thing is people remain surprised by this stuff. This guy sounds like most every teacher I had and that was over 20 years ago.

Such style...an effete demagogue. Hopefully he is no longer teaching.

... whaaaa cadets no longer allowed to play "capture the flag" because it's too warlike? Ok that's a new one.

Nowadays cadets squat when they pee. There's no shooting or real military training. A lot of cadets join the reserves when they are old enough. Can't have child soldiers.

Chirland knows absolutely nothing about the armed forces and simply spouts rubbish that came out of the loony left during the Vietnam War. Starting an argument from a position of ignorance seems to be a hallmark of the left and peaceniks in general. By the way, Chirland, how many lives have you saved? I'll bet he has never participated in Search & Rescue as many of us have and under some very dreadful circumstances. Maybe his perspective will change if he ever needs rescuing, but I doubt it - he's too narrow-minded and dumb. Oh yes, does a UN peacekeeping medal mean anything to this yellow ostrich or does he think I bullied someone to get it?

Yeah well hold onto yer hat.....didja know that kids are not allowed to play soccer, tag.....or run....at recess.

Basically I got the notion this guy thinks he has some right to rule how others are supposed to think.

Oh my goodness i could not make it past the 5 min mark. Gag reflex!! Host gets an award for not laughing him off the air.

On another note if this was the CBC and the guest was touting the benefits of the co-op programme, would he even get an invite to share the idea?

The most dangerous thing in the world is an idiot in a crowd. If these peacenik clowns want to spout their drivel let them do it at their own expense.

Bet it's Carl Cherland, Luther College. I looked for a contact email but couldn't find one.

What utter rubbish...this man makes it sound that every guy who joins the Reserves is getting ready for 'wet work' training to be a sniper or special ops JTF2.

So according to this comedian every guy who signs up to the Reserves is now a 'trained assassin'. There are plenty of support, training, medical positions within the reserve structure. They are not all at the 'pointy end of the spear'...

And quite frankly what is wrong with taking out the ISIS trash who think burning people alive trapped in cages is somehow an element of 'civilization'?

Cheers

This guy could not stand the idea of taking orders from anyone. He's obviously a superior human being and as such he should be allowed to order Brad Wall to cease and desist from implementing this program. He won't take orders but he sure can give them.

As a nation we keep hearing how we punch above our weight. Since no one has thrown a punch at us in almost 70 years I guess that has yet to be tested. Where we have sent our armed forces they have made us proud, but it has always been limited with support in mind and backup when required. It has to be limited because for all intent and purpose we no longer have a Army, Navy or Airforce. We have as a nation grown soft and any threats to our welfare seem to involve obesity or second hand smoke. There are far too many Canadians who believe the status quo can not change and the thought that there could be potential enemies that would love to get their hands on the second largest country on the planet with all its natural resources is simply beyond their comprehension. Peace is a wonderful concept but they forget it was earned through war and we must defend it when its threatened. We have remained free because our American friends have remained strong and it's been in their best interest to protect us from Russia and now China. As mentioned by Gormley, these peaceniks are useful idiots that ignore everything history has taught us and don't understand that freedom paid for with the lives of thousands can be lost with a simple change of government that produces a Chamberlain, or for that matter, a Obama or Trudeau who would still be looking for the root cause while we were being overrun. People like Chirland are complete flippin idiots and those that support his views are painfully naive. It's such a pity that history lessons were replaced with s*x ed.

One thing the military does teach is discipline - something sadly lacking in the school system.

Carl's circular login is very typical of teachers

I wish there was an app that could delete from my friends list on Facebook or other social media, those people that are supporters of Peacequest-Regina, or Oxfam, or perhaps Amnesty International, for examples. A couple of family members have "liked" PETA, those are the ones I don't need to delete...

Or at least list those that are, so I can scroll through and see if I'm the one that's merely trolling them, it could happen.

Oh, if only we could all get together 'round the campfire for a rousing rendition of Kumbaya. Our lives would be so much simpler...

These guys love to demean those who disagree with them as "lacking critical-thinking skills", as if EcoQuest will provide a balanced, nuanced look at modern natural resource extraction.
