McCain is wrong, as usual he has the delusional 1950's view of issues. The Republicans MUST put a stop to unconstitutional Presidential orders, or they will wither and die. The Country is sick of Status Quo (do nothing) politicians. Cut the funding for DHS as they only represent security to illegal Aliens.

Obama understands the countries need for action even if those decisions are wrong, and he gets credit for doing something.

Imagine Congress defunding DHS and Obama, who is chief executive of the United States government, orders that the Customs and Border Protection division under DHS is furloughed until Congress breaks down and refunds DHS.
That would mean that all traffic entering the U.S. would be halted.
No trade coming in, no U.S. citizens returning until DHS is funded to Obama's satisfaction.

Obama has Congress over a barrel, literally. The GOP controlled Congress would get all the blame. Obama would then be in the position to demand greater funding of DHS than it gets even now.

To reiterate, it is the Congress that controls the purse strings, but it is the President's job to tell the departments of the U.S. government how they will execute their jobs.
Obama is not going to let Congress tell him how to do his job, which is as the Chief Executive of the U.S. Government.

The Congress cannot defund a particular division of a government department, they can only defund an entire department.
Since Customs and Border Protection is under the Department of Homeland Security, Obama can and probably will furlough Customs and Border Protection if it comes to a funding showdown.
He already proved he can do such a thing with the funding showdown in 2013 and the closing of parks and memorials by furloughing parts of the U.S. government including the National Parks Service.

Obama would not care if it harmed the U.S. economy, Canada's economy, or any other nation's economy. The GOP would get all of the blame, and rightly so, because Obama is the Chief Executive and it's his job to decide how the money Congress gives his regime is spent.

It would be a huge political mistake for the GOP to not fund DHS now that it exists.

It was a huge mistake for George W. Bush to create DHS in the first place and allow so many important legacy divisions, which were departments in their own right, to be placed under DHS.
Bush should have instead just expanded the FBI which already had the homeland security duty.

Well, I just hope they can all get the funding issue addressed, otherwise we'll be flooded by oranges, bagpipes, and kinder surprises coming across the Mexican/American border.
