The Sound Of Settled Science

The life of a climate lukewarmer;

I am a climate lukewarmer. That means I think recent global warming is real, mostly man-made and will continue but I no longer think it is likely to be dangerous and I think its slow and erratic progress so far is what we should expect in the future. That last year was the warmest yet, in some data sets, but only by a smidgen more than 2005, is precisely in line with such lukewarm thinking.

This view annoys some sceptics who think all climate change is natural or imaginary, but it is even more infuriating to most publicly funded scientists and politicians, who insist climate change is a big risk. My middle-of-the-road position is considered not just wrong, but disgraceful, shameful, verging on scandalous. I am subjected to torrents of online abuse for holding it, very little of it from sceptics.

I was even kept off the shortlist for a part-time, unpaid public-sector appointment in a field unrelated to climate because of having this view, or so the headhunter thought. In the climate debate, paying obeisance to climate scaremongering is about as mandatory for a public appointment, or public funding, as being a Protestant was in 18th-century England.

I'm a "climate change prove it" sort. I don't know that climate change is occurring beyond normal variance and I have no evidence that any change that some purport is happening is man caused. Until there is actual evidence for extraordinary change I will keep doing what I have always done. Live!

Im a climate siner. I believe the climate is a series of overlapping sine waves. with daily cycles , yearly cycles. 22 year cycles and cycles up to 10ooo years and even as long as 70 million. which correspond to the Nemesis neutron core taking a spin by and jiggling the oort cloud

Hey i see their going to be holding another of their rediclous Climate Change ge togethers to think of ways to further restict our rights and movments and they'll be ariving in their private jets and most likely Gore will be there and probibly that little spoiled snot Robert Kennedy Jr perhaps John Travolta and Luarie David maybe Dqavid Suzuki for a CONFRENCE OF HYPOTCRIT WATERMELLONS

SP I don't think you should refer to these guys as watermellons, they are more like tomatos, red on outside, red on inside and mostly liquid, therefore no substance.
To climate lukewarmer. The only thing you get from sitting on the fence is a sore crutch.

As mentioned few days ago, January 20, 2015 11:12 AM , the LIV will never know that the 2014 being hottest year on record, or whatever, was a scientifically prepared lie, supported by mass media masturbators.

The mass media cannot change their narrative since they went along with it for so long it appears as truth to them. Sort of like the guy that was up to his neck in latrine sludge and it becomes to smell to him as roses.
So the world gets to read and hear excrement, as it were.

Lukewarmer is free to believe whatever. It would be worthless to change his mind.
Hey, if it makes him happy, what’s the downside?
He read that the whole story is questionable, he still believes.

The world likes to be lied to. It is the way it is.

"mostly man-made"

Matt Ridley is a 'thin-end-of-the-wedger'.
If you've bought that man can affect the global climate you've ceded the whole argument, it's only a matter of quibbling on the 'how-much' degree wise.
From the single point that man can affect global climate the Warmists extrapolate the need for greater control of our behaviour.
Control of us is their goal, the temperature is irrelevant.

You sir are about 100% right on that point.

Have a better argument and never give an inch to a lie.

Settled Science = Climate Change
Science = Inquire, Inquire, Inquire!

The last paragraph of lukewarmer is pertinent. Being a skeptic, I doubt that anyone not on-board with the green theocracy would be allowed in public sector or ENGO research-based academia. Does anyone know of any exceptions (recent positions awarded / tenure granted in the past decade)?

Congratulations SP. At first glance I can see that you only made 12 spelling mistakes and seven punctuation errors in your entry. Are you sure that English is your primary language?

Me? These fools think they can control weather? Dream on.

Like last years stupid THE PEOPLES CLIMATE MARCH or better yet THE USEFUL IDIOTS CLIMATE MARCH headed by Al Gore and spoiled little snot Robert Kennedy Jr whos stupid eco-freak group THE WATER KEEPERS ALLIANCE lost two big lawsuits against pork and pountry farmers

I'm almost in his boat, except I think it's not mostly manmade.

Last I checked, human CO2 output is well below the majority of atmospheric CO2.

The problem with the models is that the "forcing factors" are arbitrary - we can confirm this by the way the models never predict.

Scientifically, "it's all CO2!!" never had a leg to stand on.

I have asked several prominent "believers" to show me the downside of moderate global warming for Canadians and their replies have been pathetically weak to say the least. I won't be satisfied until I can grow peaches in Northern BC, yet they seem to settle for Crab apples. We pay a tax on nothing in BC called a carbon tax, yet we get zero value for this money grab. Older (wiser ?) societies used to make human sacrifices in hope of favorable climate. We throw tax money at nature and put up silly inefficient windmills . It's just not working. My solution is to sacrifice the prominent pushers like Gore and Suzuki and then a few politicians every month until we can get results. We deserve some warming, damn it and we should try the solutions that worked so well for our ancestors. I just know that when we reach the members of the IPCC for sacrifice we will have a magical transition back to normal climate predictions instead of all the hype and broken promises of warmer climate. Certainly worth a try.

Fantastic Article. I can't get it through the thick heads of the Climate Catastrophist Faithfuls that all the predictions of doom are based on flawed computer models that haven't yet made a single accurate prediction.

Personally, I think the record of the past 20 years demonstrates steady-state climate with natural variability driving the bus. Human modification takes place more through sooty deposition than greenhouse gas. There is also the leaking urban heat island factor to be considered. Urban heat islands are real and that heat is not all radiated to space after it dissipates from time to time due to strong winds.

If I had to guess to save my life, I would say that the past 20 years have demonstrated the approximate balance of natural cycles trending down by 0.5 C and human modification trending up by the same amount.

And like the subject of the original article, I don't think it is all worth the aggravation. Much larger shifts would be required to sound alarm bells about real changes in the polar regions. If anything, the northern polar ice has recovered rather nicely after the 2007 scare, and the southern polar ice is evidently in some sort of natural cycle of increase.

How or why this mandates our governments to tax us extra is a mystery that only the sublime Suzuki can answer. I think it has to do with the esoteric concept of public sector employment stimulus. And I'm sure we can get general agreement around here that we can never have too many highly paid public sector employees. Right ?

Anyone who has the slightest knowledge of the geological history of the planet knows:
Climate change happened
Climate change is happening
Climate change will happen

That's just what the climate does. Added to which, when Mother Earth starts PMS-ing, life on earth can get extremely interesting.

So to stave off the next ice age we need to burn more stuff? Cool! /s

There is no evidence that urban island heat adds to the temp of the global atmosphere, least not proved to my satisfaction. That the ppm has risen to 400 just in the past couple of years and yet CAGW heat has flat-lined for the last 18 yrs doesn't support this 'conclusion'.

http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/10hPa/overlay=temp/orthographic=-85.53,54.34,233

All last winter I watched the heat escape out the top of the N.pole all winter long.
Not happening as much this year, and I'm peeking in on that site daily.

Last winter there were a steady - 18-20C patches on the vortex right at the polar cap region, 10hPa; that's heat loss when compared to surrounding temps of -50 to -70C, and NO sun light.

Water/wind governs the climate only second after the rules of our heliosphere dictates. Tilt, rotation, wobble, orbit and etc.
The .03 or 04% of the 3-4% natural C02 ppm in our atmosphere has no power to do anything to these systems in any way possible.

>Radiation (Heat transfer takes place through electromagnetic waves which do not really require a medium to propagate)
Heat is lost by the earth through Radiation. 10hPa and up.
(ha, captcha has AU in it...)

I love exploring the mountains and badlands in our area. Every time I go, I look at the way the layers of rock are laid down and realize that these layers represent massive changes in the environment over many years. Otherwise there would be no layers, just a monolithic rock face of some kind. So yes, the climate is changing just like it always has and always will. And we are just living on the topmost layer.

Layers

If one will buy Anthropogenic Global Warming AKA Climate Change, I have several choice bridges and a dozen save the endangered Blank Blank charities that one needs to buy.

It is amazing how debased public understanding of the scientific method is.
When this mass hysteria final implodes, keep notes, those who bought this rubbish are too stupid to hold elected or appointed office.

Thankfully time will tell as the northern hemisphere experiences the cool half of the long term weather oscillation.
Embarrassing when so many fools and bandits attempt to feast at the public trough by insisting linear futures from cyclic data.
Sure shows the collapse of government managed education, that they have feasted for so long.

the climate and the solar system will continue doing as it has for millions of years and we are along for the ride, however long that ride might be. we can soil our own nests but cannot change the climate.

I don't understand how this nonsense can survive much longer. The majority of us are highly skeptical. It will be interesting to see how Wynne's popularity fares after she announces her world savior tax on gas.

Agenda 21....compliments of the Useless Nations

Yes, Agenda 21. Greece went all in and and can proudly take credit for being the first coutry to be destroyed by it. It won't be the last. Destroyed by bureaucratic red tape and a push towards UN mandated socialism. In order for Agenda 21 to thrive, it must be brought to its knees first.

True environmentalists should despise the Climate Change narrative It diverts massive amounts of private and public money and time away from REAL issues (say, water pollution) for a problem that is at best exaggerated and at worst a total fraud.
