The love song Plaisir d'amour, written in 1784 by French composer Jean-Paul-Égide Martini, is instantly familiar to people who've never even heard it because extended passages of its melody have been filched so often over the years. Tonight we have three renditions of the original, as sung by French actress Brigitte Bardot, Canadian actress/singer Catherine McKinnon, and Nana Mouskouri.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

My favorite Nana Mouskouri song is ABBA's ,,,, "I have a Dream"

Beautiful song that can take a person to dreaming of bygone days and exotic places. Unlike certain school boards with habits one could only hear about in rap music and dreams that are closer to nightmares.

Just in case you thought Ontario's decline had anything to do with energy costs or taxes, here's the NDP's industry critic (and obvious Liberal apologist) Peggy Nash:
“My question is, where have they (Harper's Conservatives) been for nine years? They’ve neglected the manufacturing sector. We’ve lost hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs. Families, communities have suffered.” http://canadianlandowneralliance.blogspot.ca/2015/01/blaming-harper-again.html
Re: Plaisir D'Amour. I prefer Nana's voice over the other two.
Brigitte Bardot however--in her prime--was eye candy as the picture of her in the bikini attests.
I was raised in SW Sask. Bikinis were rare up until about 1960. We had an old redneck neighbour whom my bro and I used to work for. After harvest, we'd get paid then he and his wife would take us to the Natatorium in Moose Jaw, Sk., one of the first year round indoor heated pools in the area. Then we'd go for Chinese food.
One Sunday we were swimming at the Nat when a young lady walked up to the pool sporting a bikini. ''My God'' exclaimed old Pete. ''That damned swimsuit is narrower than the fan belt on my Pontiac.'' My Bro, who swam nearby, exclaimed. '' As long as it stays in the pulley, she'll be OK.!''
That's where I saw the first bikini!
A couple of years ago my ex-gf and I were babysitting her niece's infant daughter. I have never had kids, and have forgotten all the lullabys I've used to know. So, the ex asked me to sing to Audrina, I drew a blank, and just sang the first song that popped into my head - Can't Help Falling In Love. By the end of the second verse, she was asleep, and I was on cloud 9.
Nice songs.
Anyone else remember the Elvis version?
This seems to be a poll not going horribly wrong. I'm hoping you can help.

Tough call on that poll there, AnnonAlbertanLoosingJob.
I was there when Premier Ralph put in the last 5% reduction in and believe me when I tell you that 5% cut on $35,00 hurts more than a 5% cut on $135,00. I still remember the big meeting where the director came out and said that we will all have to take one less vacation trip for a few years!
On the bright side, last time we cleared up the debt but if I was there now I would be even more pissed to do it all over again. Also, a cut like that messes up your pension calculations and your pension for the rest of your life.

"Take the ones in Paraguay – a part of the world which contributed heavily to NASA GISS’s recent narrative about 2014 having been the “hottest year on record.”
If it wasn’t for the diligence of amateur investigators like retired accountant Paul Homewood, probably no one would care, not even Paraguayans, what has been going on with the Paraguayan temperature records. But Homewood has done his homework and here, revealed at his site Notalotofpeopleknowthat, is what he found."

Netanyahu bypassing Obama to speak to Congress an outright lie.
NYT now quietly prints this correction:
Correction: January 30, 2015
An earlier version of this article misstated when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel accepted Speaker John A. Boehner’s invitation to address Congress. He accepted after the administration had been informed of the invitation, not before.

I keep seeing this error, and I try to correct it whenever I do. The word "capitalism" was devised by Marx, as a label for his caricature of the free market. There are no victims of the free market.
