If earnestly political anti-war folksongs are at one end of the musical spectrum, The Pipkins' 1970 earworm Gimme Dat Ding is on the other. So it does have that going for it.

I don't know if many are aware of tomorrow being the 50th anniversary of Churchill's death, though in my mind it acts as a sort of barometer as to just how far the Western World has fallen.
Churchill was a polarizing figure in his own right, but also one of the world's great statesmen. Both his legendary wit and tenacity were equal forces to be reconned with. Some of his policies were harsh by today's standards but then again, on his watch the job got done.

Without him, would Britain have survived long enough against the Nazi war machine, till America entered the theater is debatable...his very leadership of a woefully unprepared England instilled a real sense of unity and purpose in a country that was in fact plagued with ambivalence and treachery of a privileged class that was of the mind to ride the fence if at least to the last possible moment.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, DL, FRS, RA was a British politician who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. Wikipedia

Born: November 30, 1874, Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, United Kingdom

Died: January 24, 1965, Hyde Park Gate, United Kingdom

Western University Professor was to give a speech about a "feminist perspective on capitalism."

Backs out at the last second to protest Conrad Black giving keynote. The professor says of Conrad Black... “He’s a criminal – he’s a convicted criminal who destroyed peoples’ lives … if anybody else – if they didn’t have his money and power and his influence, would have, in many countries, probably faced execution.”

Men like Churchill would not survive in today's political arena as they are not politically correct, but will appear when times get harsh and the weenies we call leaders today fold like wet cardboard boxes. You can tell character by his/her wit and Churchill had a lot of character.

Ah Macleans... Canada's race problem, as pronounced by those living in ivory towers.
http://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/out-of-sight-out-of-mind-2/

Is the aboriginal issue a problem? You bet. Has the government contributed to it? No doubt. Is it a Canadian issue where we go out of our way to marginalize them? Nope, nope, and nope. Most successful aboriginal Canadians are the most successful away from the reserves. If they live a typical Canadian life they fit in perfectly with no discrimination. The issue usually is when they start playing their "status" (race) card demanding special treatment.

As to how they are treated in rural areas. Ask anyone that has had to deal with reserve natives what their opinion of them are. I doubt you will find anything complimentary said about them.

Studies have shown that most Russian males get their nutrients from vodka anyway! That's like when Chief Many Chins she went on her "moose broth" hunger strike!

The CBC has another poor poor Omar story up. They had one up about a month ago where they said he was rapidly eyesight. No mention of that in this one, I suppose he recovered. The power of prayer and all that.

Anyways, I checked back on some old CBC stories, pre-Harper days. Back then, Omar was not a child soldier,he was not a victim. He was just a Khadr doing what a Khadr does. The links on this story are worth clicking.

My how things have changed.

Fortunately they had some good songs in 1970 too:

"....but will appear when times get harsh and the weenies we call leaders today fold like wet cardboard boxes..."

From where will this type of Leader emerge? Certainly not from our educated classes today, far too soft, and our political class are mealy-mouthed little men and women.

Adversity builds character, but no one in the elite class of our society has that character, we will in future see many more politicians just like Justin Trudeau.

Perhaps,if we get lucky, some immigrant citizen whose toughness was forged in a third world Hell before he came here, will attain the top job or raise a son to do so,and we might finally get back on track, but it's become more of a faint hope as each generation succeeds the last.

Sorry to sound so damned gloomy, but that is the conclusion I have come to after paying attention for the past 66 years.

The White House’s outrage over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to speak before Congress in March — a move he failed to coordinate with the administration — began to seep through the diplomatic cracks on Friday, with officials telling Haaretz the Israeli leader had “spat” in President Barack Obama’s face.

Stupid bastards know that after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the American people they will want to impeach his royal brown clown ass,

My wish is that Netanyahu had dipped a mouthful of snuff when he spat in Oblamers face...

Former Chicago Cubs great Ernie Banks has died. He grew up in Dallas, Texas, during the Jim Crow era. Let's not forget that Texas was part of the Confederate States of America. He had to play baseball in the Negro leagues because he was effectively prohibited from playing minor-league ball. It would have been easy for him to be bitter as the result of those things. Instead, he chose to celebrate the fact that he could play baseball for a living, and brought a great deal of happiness to millions of people, including this White Sox fan.

He was a great player and a great man, and the world is a poorer place for his departure.

John Kerry is such an expert on Islam that he must be a mullah.

Netanyahu is just following Obama's protocol for people entering the US not to bother with documentation or normal procedures.

John Kerry says don't blame terrorism on Islam.... really? Presbyterians? the environment?

If the US can survive this Obama crew they can survive anything. We in Canada better figure the connection if they decide to vote for the Trudeau brain trust....what a disaster that could be with the Trudeau cabal on the same page... the Islamic terrorists will be laughing.

"Obama’s Bloody Yemen Disaster"

"When President Obama declares something a “success story,” you know it has “TOTAL FAILURE” embedded in its DNA.

Four months ago, America’s King Midas in Reverse crowed about the fruits of his triumphant foreign policy in jihad-infested Yemen. A “light footprint” approach to counterterrorism operations, he claimed, was the most effective path to stability. In addition, Obama has shoveled nearly $1 billion in American tax-subsidized foreign aid to Yemen.

Four months later, Iran-backed Shia rebels seized a Yemeni presidential palace. The president and his entire cabinet tendered their resignations on Thursday, creating a vacuum that al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is ready and eager to fill. The Islamic State is gaining its own Sunni foothold in the Muslim terror-breeding ground."

@ critter
SDA fans would like one of the quotes:
"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

Just to clarify - is Harper more or less incompetent than Trudeau or Mulcair? Who's prime minister, what day is it? Is it OK to draw a blank when asked what you would do on your first day as PM? Is that a sign of competence? Anyway it's getting very confusing, high oil prices are bad, low oil prices are bad, we need to soak the west, are economy is a one trick pony, thanks to Harper. So our prosperity is his fault? It's hard to keep up with the double speak and contradictions.

Just go with the meme, man, just go with the meme:

Kate, is it too early to start a book upon the next US Republican candidates:

Here's my take:

Jindal
Walker
Perry
Palin

The GOP establishment do not get a look in. If they did somehow manage to steal the nomination, they will lose because Conservatives will not vote for them neither work on campaigns for them.
