Lobbyists are mobilizing to advance it. Environmentalists are mobilizing to stop it. The newly-elected Republican House has already voted to approve it. So has the newly elected Republican Senate. Obama has threatened a veto. The media are having a field day. What's so important about Keystone XL?
Well nothing, really.

About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

It is of middling interest to Canada. There are other markets for the Athabaska oil...including Eastern Canada.
It has the potential to further depress world price...to the detriment of US energy suppliers.
Cheaper more reliable energy supply is just what US industry and consumers want/need.
Predictably this will be anathema to Venezuella and defang Russia....
Persian Gulf producers will not be able to continue to finance the terrorists.
Alternative, green energy will be further overpriced.
IOW it is mostly important to our WW4 enemies.
The construction of Keystone, and thus the export of oil from a friendly power to the U.S. would end the prospect of blackmail by Islamic oil-producing countries. The money now spent on middle eastern oil which goes to prop up totalitarian, freedom-hating islamic states who fund terrorism against the U.S. and others all over the world, would go to peace loving Canadians. It would also gut the economies of some of the enemies of the U.S. Canada, of course, can sell their oil to anyone they want. But it's convenient to have the most oil-thirsty country in the world on their southern border.
"Predictably this will be anathema to Venezuella and defang Russia...."
I predict the Russians, who are hurting badly for hard currency, will feed the Israelis some intel on the Iranians that will cause the Israelis to attack Iran, which will bring oil prices back up, at least for a while.
Iranian has been naughty, blithely announcing the construction of 2 new nuclear reactors, Russian supplied I think.
Result: Oil prices go up, Iran will be on the hook to pay Russia for 2 new reactors.

Russia wins, Israel wins, Keystone XL gets built, Iran well ...tough falafel.
Yemen descends into chaos. This could be a problem for Saudi oil exports.

I am not "anti-Iranian", it's just that the Persians should throw off the shackles of Islamic invasion. We should help them.
You can expect the usial junk mail from some enviromentalists bunch urging you to send in their dumb little postcards or wanting you to send them $500 or more to oppose the drilling althogh this time they cant use Polarbears perhapes they'll just use a squrrel and wait for hollywood blabbermouth Robert Redford to appear in some junk mail or misleading TV ads then wait for these eco-freaks to chain themselves to equpment or just do the stupid things these eco-wackos are always doing
I guess the choices "we" made in 53' were a bit suspect...as I recall Anglo-American oil interests had a bit to do with that coup
Robert of Ottawa (where I am going on Wed...) Apparently 89% of the current population of Iran is shi'a. Despite the fact that Persia was a beautiful place in the past, I'm not so sure that the people living there now WANT to be helped.
First tanker sunk in the straits of Hormuz and the yanks will be screaming for building it
We will just have to outlast Dear Leader, OBamBam, Czar of the USSA. Hard to tell if Shrillary is as much of a crypto-commie as Bammer, maybe Romney wins, then it gets built.
When Sadam released all that oil into the persian gulf these granola munchers/tree huggers never said a thing they did'nt picket the iraq embassy becuase the media scum rats would'nt have said any attention to them
The "media scum rats" and the "granola munchers/tree huggers" are the same retarded cowards.
Oh yes, she was fawning all over Alinsky.
Reuter's headline (snicker)
Teargas fired at Nigeria school children protest
2:30am EST - 00:36
Police in Nairobi use teargas to disperse school children and other protesters during a demonstration against the potential loss of their playground. Julie Noce reports.
"......it's just that the Persians should throw off the shackles of Islamic invasion."
Correction: despite representations to the contrary.....it was an ARAB conquest (Abbasid) based in Damascus.
How the **** can Nigerian kids get teargased in Nairobi(Kenya)....that's one helluva walk.
